An editorial like this might cost you your job
Andrewwhyte replied to idrankwhat's topic in Speakers Corner
I think the point being made is that quite possibly some people in the Bush administration decided to "out" him specifically for that article by "busting" him in the prostitute scandal. Of course, I'm not saying they did or did not have a hand in that for that reason but it wouldn't be the first time someone with a dissenting opinion against the administration took a hit on the chin in some fashion, kind of like a "fuck you". I wouldn't put it past Cheney. He has been vindictive in the past. Oh shit, is he gonna come after me now? My bad. I thought he was the new Gov. -

Why would it cost him his job? He's bashing an unpopular president and allowing his voting public to tell themselves that their problems are not their fault and coming off as a hero to the little guy. Do you think the banks might yank contributions? That's a possibility; however the net result of "blame the banks" is easily morphed into "blame the small dodgy banks, stick with Humongous Bank." -
I have a question. If the "power wall" displays do nothing to encourage smoking why do all the retailers use them? Advertising works. Colourfull displays work. Power walls are banned in most provinces in Canada and yes, the various sanctions against the industry that people have said would not do any good have in fact done measurable good. Education programs work. Workplace bans work. Minor bans work. Advertising restrictions work. Increased excise taxes work. None of them work perfectly but the results are not disputable; less people smoke now.

I haven't seen or heard from Jason in at least ten years. I taught him to jump about fifteen years ago and now he's gone and quit jumping and done grad work in sociology. Oh the shame.

Is this a scandal or insiders job to manipulate the public

Turns out they were not classified documents, but were a proposal by a company that was not accepted. Plans for a building that is not going to be built. -
When the Japanese real estate bubble burst the market was depressed for about ten years. In their case it was commercial real estate, but it shows that a quick recovery is not a given.

Well, everyone shouldn't have an opinion/practice; the instructions are in the manual and on the website.

I did about 200 butt sliding landings on y-mod gear. I didn't have a problem with the newer harnesses. A bit more difficult with the older ones, especially with larger passengers. I try to use the older harnesses for skinny types only.

Well they should refer to them that way. They were his idea. He wrote about them before the space age began.

Bush senior made his first jump while serving his country in combat; Jr. hasn't followed his father's footsteps along that path.

It does not make any distinction between jumping from an aircraft and any other type of parachuting. The bit about needing permission to jump in uncontrolled airspace just made ground launching and base jumping illegal without a permit.

"He told me he was single. I would not have slept with him if I knew he was married." Is the the statement of a reasonable person? -
If the government falls or resigns all pending legislation, including proposed amendments, have "died on the order paper"

If the Kentucky law passes, then possibly. You will be liable for anonymous posts - a Kentucky based user could file a police report if he/she reads an anonymous posting. The Kentucky courts will fine you It's true. I studied a case about media law at uni last year in which it was ruled that the place where the website originated (or I guess the post was made) is irrelevant, if it is viewed in a place in which it is breaking the law then it is upheld as having broken that law... This may well be true but the corporation that hosts this site will never be present in Kentucky to answer to the law. If it is in fact not protected by incorporation the summons to appear in Kentucky court must be legally served (as I understand it) within the jurisdiction of the court. So unless that happened Sangiro could not be convicted in absentia.

I believe Gananoque left CSPA because CSPA was not helping to solve the problem, not because someone was opposed to regulation. I'm not sure if I read what you wrote wrong, but it sounded like you were saying the DZO of Skydive Gan was for regulation and he left because someone pissed him off by objecting against regulation. I know for certain that he does not want government regulation. And that requiring a commercial operating certificate was not a good situation for business in Gan. Just clearing that up. As for the personal relationships being the problem... I can't say. I have heard (I haven't been around long) that back then CSPA was doing what was best for CSPA and certain dropzones, not what was best for skydiving in Canada in general. Seeing the voracity of opposition against this legislation, it seems things may have changed. I hope so. I apologize if I have overstepped my boundaries by speaking of how someone else may or may not have felt way back when, I just feel that things did not sound right there. What I meant was that Flanagan's position to not fight the imposition of the commercial operating certificate is what pissed Tom (and others) off.

Wow skateboardmonauti sounds really cool. I plan to take a seminar this sumer. I just got an email from some guys in Quebec who used to be with Cirque du Soleil. They have been practicing standmonauti with clown shoes. i never thought of that. Also we are having a meeting of the CSSA (Canadian Sport Standmonauti Association) to discuss Craig Girard's tunnel entrance procedure. We are not sure if it really counts as stanmonauti or not because if the tunnel is turned off he would fall down.

You are correct. However not everyone can be above average. If the best and brightest are concentrated on defense you are crowding out your capacity in (for example) medical research, or pollution abatement science, or agronomy.

I think you are confused. The meetings Smiles was referring to took place in Vancouver several years ago and Ian Flanagan was the sole CSPA rep. The meetings took place over two days in Vancouver. If you had remained on the board you could have voted for whomever you wanted for president. Since you elected not to remain I hardly think you have a beef with how your successor voted. Just because you don't mention someone by name when you liable them does not mean you didn't do it. That is the lesson we learned in 1988 with Mercier. The reason I named names is because if you are telling the truth you should stand up and say things aloud. You weren't around the sport when majority of the things you were talking about happened so I think you should be more careful about passing third hand stories off as the inside scoop.

Up here in Northern Canada we've been experimenting with snowshoemonauti. It's a bit tricky as you can imagine, but some of the guys have developed standmonauti. We're really exited about this aspect of snowshomonauti because of the enormous increase of practicing opportunities. I mean, with all the other monautis you have to actually be moving. With standmonauti you could be waiting in line for the bank machine (bankstandmonauti), hitchhiking (hitchikestandmonauti), or just hanging around the water cooler (dogfuckingstandmonauti).
