Amnesty International’s Ad Against Waterboarding
Andrewwhyte replied to nerdgirl's topic in Speakers Corner
So you agree the World Trade Centre was a legitimate target? After all Al Queda did declare war on US several years earlier. That would make everyone in Gitmo lawfull enemy combatants. -
My class three says I have to have reading glasses available for reading charts.

Amnesty International’s Ad Against Waterboarding
Andrewwhyte replied to nerdgirl's topic in Speakers Corner
I have to agree a lot of what AA has done over the last fifteen years has detracted from their "real" work As a point of trivia, Greenpeace was first and foremost an anti-nuke group. Their first action ever was to sail the Sea Shepherd into the way of French nuclear testing in the south Pacific. -
Must be a Tough Day to be Crying the "R" word...
Andrewwhyte replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
This is a great example of why the government should not try to shape the economy. Capital has been allocated based on those rules. Now, to see them reversed so quickly indicates a higher risk premium is required for investment than previously thought. This change in perception has effects similar to an increased interest rate. So the FED lowers the interest rate to keep investment up, and congress undermines the consistency of the investment climate; nice. -
I fly a Stiletto. The main reason is that I do not do enough jumps on my personal gear to use anything higher performance. In my opinion the Stiletto is a great canopy for those who have the experience and skill, but not the currency or desire for a swooping designed canopy.

I think there is an argument that the DZ becomes a campground after hours. There must be case law out there that addresses the scope of liability of the campground owner when their guests misbehave. I wonder if charging a fee changes anything.

Close to my feelings, but not quite. The purpose of the criminal justice system is to lower the crime rate. Prevention of crimes by previous offenders is no more or less important than prevention of crimes by those who have thus far been clean. After all to be murdered by one person is largely the same as to be murdered by another. With that in mind I would say that #s 1,4&6 are all means toward the stated end (lower crime rate). #s 5&7 are irrelevant. #s 2&3 are detrimental to the prosecutors of the punishment.

It is a bit difficult to get a good overall picture. The drought in Australia, fuel prices, ethanol demand, increased demand from China and India. This year I expect to see the price of hay and other feeds to impact cattle herd sizes as farmers plant more wheat and rape. One thing that is very concerning is that farmers are increasing pressure on the land as they choose to grow rape and other oil seeds on land three of four years where in the past they only could one or two years in four. I am guessing this creates a nutrient deficit in the land that will have to be paid back. Look to see more international fishing disputes soon as well.

Can anyone think of another black comedian who has never told a joke about being black? His jokes are about being a kid, about being a parent, about being an American. There is another thread on here about the US being a racist society. It seems most US comedians use points of division in their routines. Perhaps the most common is race. Bill Cosby uses points of unity; how this stuff happens to all of us. I grew up in a very white part of the world. Bill Cosby was a constant counterpoint to the portrayals of black North Americans as different from me; Bill was just like me.

True enough. But then again, a nuclear Syria is not a danger to the United States; it is a danger to Israel.

"Technically." is not a sentence; it is not even a clause. You are in no position whatsoever to lecture anyone on grammar.

If there is no free will then there is no value in piety. There is also no value in accomplishment. Only hedonism remains.

Manic mode rocks.

Isn't that a redundant sentence? It's not like you "have been" guilty of it in the future And if it's the present tense, then it would be "I am" rather than "I have" I not sure, based on this, that I can believe anything in this thread. It is not a redundant sentence. It is the correct congegation of the past imperfect of the verb "to be".

Student Emergency Exit Training- One Handle or Two
Andrewwhyte replied to Andrewwhyte's topic in Instructors
OR "Go to reserve." But that is a two handle process because the decision is made that the waste of time for the unnecessary cutaway is better than the possibility of a reserve pull only during a real malfunction because you taught two different procedures during one five hour course. This is an extension of the question of teaching a one handle pull or two for a pilot chute in tow. Besides the technical arguement of which is less likely to cause problems, there is the question of the wisdom of making the assessment/reaction chain more complex. The fatality in italy recently appears to have been a junior jumper pulling the reserve without cutting away. This prompts the question: Are we better off teaching a one size fits all physical response to a wide range of problems- partial mal, p/c in tow, total mal, emergency bail out? -

Wow. The Hell's Angels must be different where you are. They are the largest mob in Canada with a virtual monopoly over the West coast farming industry and crystal meth production and distribution. They do not sit around the lunchroom arguing about little shit. Are you sure these guys are members and not just hang arounds?

Student Emergency Exit Training- One Handle or Two
Andrewwhyte replied to Andrewwhyte's topic in Instructors
Obviously there's at least three voting people out there who don't know what the hell you are asking. How do mal procedures tie in with emergency bailout procedures? I don't think that is true. I don't think it is completely out to lunch to teach a first jump student one and one only emergency procedure drill, especially an IAD student. It is not what we do, but I do not find the concept unreasonable.
