Should skydivers be made to wear helmets by law
Andrewwhyte replied to akarunway's topic in Speakers Corner
Nothing is skydiving should be mandated in law; it's an adult sport. -
Generally speaking, most states have other election issues that the primaries get rolled into. As long as a person is going to the polls to vote for bond issues and whatnot, it doesn't really cost anything to add in the the party primaries. Is that true for caucuses as well? It seems to me that each party has their own, increasing the cost with the number of parties.

I saw a Hell's angel collecting teddy bears for underprivileged children's Christmas presents. Does that mean teddy bears are bad, or just Christmas presents?

I don't understand why tax dollars are involved in the first place. If the Rhinoseros Party decides to have primaries or caucuses next time are the taxpayers required to support them, or are the GOP and Dems considered special under the law?

It looks like a party named 'Socialist' or 'Labor.'

It is very ironic that states wanted the power of being early, but this year the power is to those who are late (for the dems anyway). I think the DNC was right with their actions; the nominating convention is a private affair within the party and none of the states' government's business. That said they have to do something to avoid pissing a lot of voters off. A new vote needs to be convened as soon as possible. The next thing they should do is change their constitution so that future disqualifications cannot be undone by the committee until after the next convention. This will entrench the power of the party over meddling state governments in the future.

Actually I haven't. Moose is best as a roast or in sausages, although I have been known to make pasta sauce with it. Around these parts we mostly prefer elk with our perogies; better sausages.

Presidential term limits are expressly stated in terms of electability, not service. For example if you make the argument that Bill Clinton is ineligible for the post of VP, then you must also agree that he is ineligible for any post that is in the legal succession. This is most of the cabinet.

Article II section 1 does not supercede the 22nd amendment. If original articles supeceded subsequent amendments, any amendment representing change would not have an effect. The restrictions of the 22nd amendment are in addition to the restrictions in Article II section 1.

It's only the limey bits that are backwards. They pobably got them to build the boot, and maybe the bonnet. -
I agree it would be a bad Idea. Too many people would see it as thwarting the will of the constitution if not the letter. The image privileged doing what they want would cost as many votes as Bill would gain.

First concert I ever went to was on the Kiss Alive tour in '75. Yeah I still remember the show. They knew what business they were in: ENTERTAINMENT! Never got to see Uriah Heap. I just re-bought Demons and Wizards a few months ago.

Read my sig line. -
When I hear an American say 'Liberal' I think 'socialist.' When I hear a Canadian, Britt or European say it I tend to think along the lines in the dictionary definition.

Two years ago in Alberta there was a leadership contest for the ruling (conservative) party; the winner became premier without a general election. After the first round a very conservative fundementalist Christian was in a strong position to win. The movers and shakers of the Liberal and Socialist parties encouraged their supporters to join the Tories and vote against this guy in the second round a few weeks later. The Tories discussed the tactical drawbacks of their selection system, but no one ever questioned these peoples right to to do it. In a democracy we don't kill people to gain power; after that pretty much everything else is fair ball. -

Well, I was addressing the strategic ramifications. As far as the ethical considerations, I do not believe there are any. As long as your ultimate strategy is to affect the choice of president in favour of your view of the USA, and you are acting within the constitution, then you are acting as you should. -
I think the whole argument is silly. If the US congress overturns this contract (and pays the huge settlement costs) it will lead to Boeing increasing their future bids on projects they know they cannot lose. It may also lead them to make quality compromises as well for the same reason. The US and especially Boeing are huge exporters of military hardware. Would it be good for them if the Europeans retaliated by excluding them from future contracts. Protectionism is a game for idiots.
