  1. A German native I deeply respect once told me this: "For one thousand years the Germans have kept the Turks out of Europe. Now we are giving them victory by letting them walking across in peace what they couldn't charge across in war." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  2. No. The job of the TSA is to keep the plane safe. Right, and a large part of that entails preventing weapons from being on the plane. Wrong. Weapons do not necessarily make a plane less safe. You said so yourself by advocating Air Marshals. Uh huh. You're going to say that to pilots flying NYC to LA? LA to Honolulu? "Sorry boys, no drinks, no piss breaks, just fly." Good luck with that one. But do you advocate raising your own taxes to pay for hiring and training ten times the number of marshalls hat we have now? And that would only be a start. Until we have a FAM on most planes, why would you be against FFDOs? Hell, I'd want both on my flights. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  3. Can you imagine what would happen to an airline if they turned down a FFDO pilot and one of their planes was hijacked? The safest place is on their hip, concealed. Anything else is outside their immediate control, and thus less safe. (many potential FFDOs turned away form the program bacause of some ridiculous "lock up your safety" regulations) Training would be available if the TSA would follow the will of congress instead of doing as they damn well please. Only their conscience. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  4. Could it be that some of them were curious about your ancestry, not your citizenship? Or do you just have all the luck in locating imbeciles? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  6. That's what Mineta said. Yeah, I mean they're only driving the things that brought down the WTC. Heaven forbid they should be allowed a sidearm to prevent misuse of high speed, explosive feuled flying metal thing. Come on man, guns are evil. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  7. I think his point is that the two are not mutually exclusive. e.g. how many pilots are ex-military? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  8. You changed fom most to all. Why? I'm not for arming all pilots either, but I strongly advocate allowing any pilots who want to the right to carry aboard their aircraft. Besides, he wouldn't be doing room-clearing. He'd secure the door and head for the nearest airport, having the gun only for a cockpit breach. Shooting someone outlined in a door is easier than you might think. It focusses your vision on the target. Well, let's lay aside the fact that you can still get weapons on aircraft right now. Your hypothetical breaks down when you apply your own suggestion. Why wouldn't a screener let someone suspicious on when he knows there are air marshalls? (if he would do so for a FFDO) Do you think five hijackers could take a gun from a pilot but fifty passengers couldn't take it from the hijackers? Yeah, well, you let me know when they come up with the billions to recruit and train enough marshalls. ps - more than a few marshalls have done some pretty scary things on duty. Things that pilot drinking seem down right insignificant. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  9. I just want to know when people are going to figure out that censorship is not a bad thing in private settings? It's property rights and their own right to express themselves. If the government has a hand in it, I'll be next in line to condemn it. But when you put art up in a private gallery, you play by the gallery's rules. If they say it comes down early, then it comes down early. Find a new gallery that likes your stuff better. Don't piss and moan about censorship. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  10. I think giving him LWOP would be more cruel, wouldn't it? I'm not terribly familiar with the penal system in California, but aren't prisoners on death row put in single cells and kept "safe," relative to prisons with 25-life and LWOP sentences? I know some states have separate facilities and complete segregation of death row inmates. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  14. So with everything about the TSA, the terrorists, and anything else you think might be relevant, what do you think? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  15. Lay off. Specifically, lay off the personal attacks. I disagree with kallend more than most anyone else on the site, but name calling just undermines anyone who agrees with you. Start calling names and anyone who disagrees with him is on shakier ground. Why make my argument look weak just so you can get five seconds of puerile levity out of a post? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. And I'm telling you that statistics don't equal reality. There are more guns in teh US this year than last year, and there are fewer gun accidents this year than last year. Apparently your simply probability is too simple to describe reality. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  17. OK, try to follow this line of reasoning. Please. I am not proud that 700 people died from firearm related accidents. I wouldn't be proud if 1 person ded in a firearm related accident. No one is proud of the number of people who died, no matter how small. I am proud that we have succeeded in reducing the nubmer of fatal accidents by 54%. I am proud that more than 700 people who might have died did not, and are safely enjoying my other favorite sport. I wouldn't be proud of any number of jumpers dying, but I would be proud of a successful push to reduce the number of jumpers dying accidentally. the sixth time seeing it Does it make sense now? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  18. That was a typo. The facts are that the number of guns in the US has risen each year and the number of accidents has dropped each year. (hence John's starting this thread) Just like more guns does not equal more crime, it also does not equal more accidents. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  19. Since Law Enforcement/Corrections, Environmental Protection, and National Defense/Intelligence are inherently federal considerations, privatization would make little difference. The prison staff can be federal employees managed by people responsible to bureaucratic overseers, or they can be private staff managed by people responsible to bureaucratic overseers. Do you think it'll make any difference? Did it make a difference for airline security? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. Do I really have to explain the difference between correlation and causation to you, again? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. My parachute is available 24x7 to save me if I fall out of a plane. Considered on that basis, parachuting is an extremely safe activity. Agreed, parachuting is not very dangerous at all. However, jumping out of an airplane or off a base height fixed object is very dangerous. It's not using the parachute that is dangerous, it is the situation you put yourself in to use it that is dangerous. Completely not useful for the discussion at hand. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  22. Your analysis is not incoorect, it is based on false information. A car accident can only happen when the key and the driver are within arm's reach of the vehicle, right? (or it is hotwired) So with commuting, errands, etc, let's say a person spends on average three hours each day in an operational car. A firearm accident can happen anytime ammunition and shooter are within arm's reach of the gun (not in a safe), right? Which do you think is more often ready for use, a gun or a car? Like PhillyKev said, many gun are 'available for an accident' 24/7. Can you really say the same for cars? ps - don't count the number of times it is used, count the amount of time it is available for use as defined above. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  23. Oh please. Neither of them compares to DC's happy little hooker buyer. Which one has been caught smoking crack, again? Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  24. There were smillies after that because right now I'd be happy to have any career over a job. In a few months, I may finally get the good word and be in the career I want. Don't worry about my sensitivities. I have been yelled at and insulted by the best of them. Being called pig, etc is not going to make me lose any sleep at night. (my brother already calls me one) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. Actually, criminals will always have access to whatever basic items they want. The only variable is the price. This is simply not true. The number of guns in the USA has risen every year for decades, and the number of accidents involving guns has dropped. Your statement is false. You're right about one thing. Not all UK criminals are armed. But you should keep in mind that not all USA criminals are armed, either. Neither one if for lack of a bility, it is because they chose not to be armed. Any UK criminal who wants a gun can get one. The ones who are not armed have chosen to be that way. editted for typo pointed out by Paulipod. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
