So a pair of politicians agreed to restrictive terms. So what? That was the format they agreed to. It's not like the government was stepping into it and forcing only certain questions. How many times do I have to tell people this incident has nothing to do with free speech? This did not happen in public, but rather at a private event. People running private events can ask anyone to leave for any reason. Also, these women were not arrested for wearing the shirts. They were arrested for refusing to leave. There is no freedom of speech for guests at a private event. Would you like it if a person in your home were allowed to stay, no matter what they did, even after you asked them to leave? Yes to both questions. As detestable as the people and their views are, they are allowed to assemble and demonstrate. That is freedom of speech. That is not likely to result in being arrested, but it is right on the line. Advocating illegal behavior is not legal in most cases. Freedom of speech in the US is still alive an kicking, though currently it is severely limited immediately preceeding federal elections. I agree with Jeffrey that outlawing political parties and criminalizing the expression of (even misguided) points of view in the public forum is a restriction of speech that should not be allowed to stand. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Glock Perfection: The Only Thing Good Enough For The Gunny
Kennedy replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
To quote the man in question: What is your major malfunction? I was sharing that R. Lee Ermey is now a spokesman for Glock. Why do I give a shit what two NCOs (out of what, tens of thousands) own? Ermey is a respected man. He served his country in war time and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. That is the rank immediately below Gunnery Sergeant. After leaving the service, he continued to work on the USMC's behalf. He was later awarded the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Just because you didn't understand the reference to "The Gunny," and didn't bother to look into it, or even read my post, you don't need to get all pissy when you are corrected. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Glock Perfection: The Only Thing Good Enough For The Gunny
Kennedy replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
When respondng to the title, it can be enlightening to read the entire post, as well. The title refers to one specific, famous, gunnery sergeant. What do your two friends (of whatever branch) have to do with Ermey? He endorses the product. How does ownership, or lackthereof, by two NCOs affect this conversation? The title reads "The Gunny," not "A Gunny," or "Any Gunny." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Stop hiding your personal attacks on non-kubotan fanatics. I never understood what kind of advantage a kubotan is supposed to provide. It seems like it is either to big or two small, and just the wrong shape to do any real good. Honestly, what good isan inch and a half of polymer or resin going to do sticking out the top or bottom of my hand. There are much more useful things to smack somebody with. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

That's right, Glock announced that they now have their first official celebrity spokesperson: Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Ermey, USMC Ret. (if you don't know, he's the guy that scared you in Full Metal Jacket) I'm still waiting for a "free" one before buying my own. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Yeah, too bad for the world that Clinton decided to start a war to avoid dealing with personal controversy in office. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

So the people in charge of our most powerful weapons are trusting their systems to people who can't competantly design an e-mail program, let alone an OS? Yeah, I feel safer, too. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

how about you stop trying to hijack my thread about racism how it reared its ugly head against Dr. Rice? Go start your own thread. You can call it "Rice Is Incompetant" witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Let's see. Clinton lied under oath. (see perjury) When people do that they get indicted. When you're president, and indictment is called being impeached. That seems to me like "something that logically or naturally follows from an action" he committed. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Smoking in 'enclosed public spaces'. Legal or Illegal?
Kennedy replied to yoink's topic in Speakers Corner
How about the fact that bars and restaurants aren't propped up by government grants? Farmers and airlines seem incapable of running theimselves without government dollars. Bars have to get by on the cash they bring in the door. Bars deserve to run their own businesses any way they see fit and can accept the market or change to fit its demands. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Smoking in 'enclosed public spaces'. Legal or Illegal?
Kennedy replied to yoink's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm with Dave on this one. I never smoked, but my favorite bars on Earth had a constant haze of smoke. If you don't like it, get the f@*& out. It's not "public," it's someone's privately owned establishment. They can toss out anyone they want. That's hardly "public." The park is public. The beach an sidewalks are public. Flanagan's and Murphy's are not. If a smokefree bar were in that much demand, then someone would open one. Leave it to the free market. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Thankfully I haven't had anyone burn anything witha cash value, but just because my body will heal does not mean it's ok to hit me instead of my gear with your flaming malodorous cancer producers. I have one permanent reminder of a DZ cigarette burn. All the others have healed without scars. Well, I've got the cuffs, now I just need the woman to use them on oh, and I need the multi-colored glow in the dark zip ties Aside from that, I just want a bunch of outdoors stuff no one really needs to see me list. I still get to sing "All I want for Christmas..." because I don't have the finals screwed into my jaw just yet. The end of 'fair use?' (bad news if you like VCRs)
Kennedy replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
Actually, I would think of the Headless Horseman, not Moby Dick. You'd have to title it Call me Ishmael, wouldn't you? However, I agree with you that while D D D DD D A is recognizable, and it makes Vanilla Ice a rip off artist, I don't think it qualifies as outside fair use. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
