You know, I've never met a meat eater whose eyes have gone blurry and whose skin and nails have gone brittle and discolored. Man, vegans were the best diet inducement for me at college. Just seeing the sick things they did to themselves curbed my appetite very effectively. Of course, since I skipped lunch on seeing htem, I generally amde up for it by treating myself to a nice big chuck of charred animal flesh, or maybe some boiled alive sea-life. I don't remember which paper I saw it in (barber shop's paper), but I know this guy gets published in the NYTimes and the Washington Post, at least. The aluminum tubes, I don't know what statement or circumstance made him use those over any other controversial Bush issue, but the objects are far overshadowed by the cartoon. So Condoleeza Rice will replace Colin Powell as Secretary of State, with one of her direect subordinates replaceing her as NSA. You should pick up a book titled "The Shadow University." It will give you a better idea of what people are talking about (or trying to) in this thread. I went to U of Maryland College Park for four years. There are serious issues involved, and they don't fit into a neatly drawn left right argument. You all know I fall into the right leaning libertarian category. I completely agree with you Ron. I just hate it when people say it is wrong to draw without firing it. If a person presents the sort of threat that requires pulling a gun, well of course, pull the gun. But if he sees you pull then turns and runs away, don't shoot him as he runs away. That is a perfect example of 'pull the gun if you need it, shoot the gun if you need to.' Just because you had to draw doesn't mean you have to shoot. However, like you said, if you have it, be ready to use it. You know somebody who carries that for self defense? The scenario I was responding to, as created by MGBob, involved someone threatening you with a contact weapon "at some distance." If he is stationary and runs away or backs down when I present from holster, I'm not going to shoot him. He has removed himself from imminent threat status (doesn't mean the gun is going away or that I trust him, just that I'm not going to shoot). Distance is always my friend. I back up regardless (unless physically unable to do so). If he is closing with me at all, he is about to get shot. If he is stationary, I wait. If he backs away, I wait. If he closes, I begin to squeeeeeeeeze. Seven yards is the convenient standard. Anyone actively attacking you from there or within is presenting you with a threat of death/GBH. Yes, it is. No. If you shoot someone without being in direct fear of death/GBH, then you just commited aggrivated assault in most states. If he is not a threat to your life, why in God's name would you shoot him? Wrong. If showing it is enough to scare some criminal POS into running away, then GREAT!! File a police report and go home safe. Most defensive gun uses in the USA only have the gun drawn/brandished, never shot. This results in the criminal fleeing. No, Kev, one third turn-over is not a large chunk for a second term cabinet. I don't have hard numbers, but I believe between four and nine would be average. Besides, Powell made it clear from the start that he was only going to be there for one term. He's done more than anyone can ask of a person. There are always reasons for people leaving. Um, no. It's not the "barista." I know because I was one. Starschmucks coffee is about as automatic as Foldgers powder. The only question with coffee is just how badly each imbecile screws up the four step process. (open bag, dump bag into cup, put cup in machine, press button) The espresso drinks require some modicum of sentience on the part of the coffee house worker, but not much. Personally, I'm more than ahppy with the fresh cup down at the local Quickee Mart. At least there it's fresh.
