A revolver only has two controls: the safety, and the trigger. It's pretty easy to figure those out, and use them properly. It's not much different from operating a spray nozzle on a garden hose. And most kids grow up playing with similar items, like cap guns and BB guns, and have watched hundreds of hours of gun usage on TV. It's not a big deal to learn how to use a real handgun. Didn't I just see a Times article comdemning handguns because they are too easy for kids to hold and use? Gun banners really need to get on the same page. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

And three thousand people, along with countless dollars lost, hurt a little more than a punch in the nose. It's called an analogy. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Obviously Britain has suffered more casualties to terrorism over the course of decades (I wonder who has had larger finacial damages). However, you have to look at the effect each type of attack has on a nation - many small attacks versus one unimaginably large attack. People learned to live with the IRA and "just get on with life" when things weren't at their worst. In the US, we had one big traumatic event. I'm not saying ione's worse that the other, just that the effects are significantly different. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

You know, that's the funny thing... One of the red jacketed asswipes tried confiscating my zippo. Mind you, this was engraved as a gift for someone at my destination, and I wasn't checking any luggage. Well, first he tried taking it wihtout even saying anything to me. When he saw that I was about to raise holy hell, he said you have to put it in checked baggage. You know what? TSA regulations say a person can carry two lighters or four books of safety matches onto their plane. Know what else? Lighters and matches are banned from checked baggage. Anyone want to lay odds that the zippo never would've made it to the "confiscated" bin? I tried getting a supervisor over there to ask him about theft complaints and his underlings' knowledge (lack thereof). I was told to move along or I "might be detained long enough to miss my flight." God damn I wish I hadn't arrived late so I could have actually gone through the motions with these imbeciles. ps - knitting and crochet needles are allowed on planes as well, according to the TSA site. Good luck getting one of the brainless Thousands Standing Around to understand that, though. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Absurd. More Brits have been killed in terrorist attacks in the last 30 years than Americans, courtesy mainly of the IRA. Right, because car-bombs and exploding garbage cans have the same effect on a people as 3,000 citizens dying in one day. He said 9/11, not "terrorist attack." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Have you compared the news section to the editorial section in that paper? They must hate each other! The news in the WSJ ranks right out there with the LATimes and NYPost sometimes. It's correct. --- this story has been reported in other sources as well. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I know a Georgia born gentleman who has lived in NYC for around 30 years and get invited to "all the right parties." His apartment is just off fifth avenue in the mid forties. Is he just some Red-necked Ignorant Southerner masquerading as a New York Socialite? Honestly, comments like yours make me feel much better about agreeing with some of the more ...aggressive... posters who disagree with you. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

That's the loud guy from the movie series You know, the black guy who did the sound effects, the scheming captain with his lackey, the senile supervising officer, Tackleberry with the magnum... Police Academy, that's it! (jeez, that only took about five minutes) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

While it's not all that easy to hit a target when your blood is pumping, it really isn't that difficult to point and pull. The idea is simple, the execution can take years to perfect. But who said you need to be perfect to save your own life? However, I have to agree that a long gun can be a better choice for self defense in the home. Personally, I like a side by side shotgun, 18 inch barrels- no springs to rely on, no simpler gun exists (except a single barrel breech loader). I think you're talking about recoil, the jump of the gun after it is fired. I have to tell you, I've never seen anyone get hit in the face or the shoulder with a handgun. Most new shooters say they expected more recoil. Now, I'll admit I suffered slidebite when I learned to shoot leftie, but that was my own fault, and never "knocked me out," figuratively or literally. If you're talking about shooting a long gun, yes some recoil harder than others, but with your blood pumping I doubt you'd even feel the recoil. My last session at the range (shotgun) I was very nervous, and recoil didn't bother me at all until I was sitting down hours later. Well, since the only time someone that untrained would hold the gun is for self defense, I wouldn't want to be in the area either, since the only other person likely to be near him is his target. However, I wouldn't tell somone who can't afford thousands in training that just because he's only had a few ranges sessions that he is not qualified to defend hearth and home. It's his choice ot accept all the risks and benefits, or not. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Washington DC may get competition as "Murder Capital"
Kennedy replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
There's a significant difference between what's allowed on county property and what a city can outlaw (in contravention of state law), right? I mean one is property choices by gov. entity, and the other is a ban on private property ownership (of an item protected by state and federal law, as I recall). The second amendment wouldn't really affect legal activities (vs. illegal), but this is a civil rights issue, no? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

CA state law says the city has no ground to stand on. Gun laws are the state's responsibility. Of course, state law hasn't stopped the SF mayor in the past, now has it? You know, those "marriages" and all... This'll be just one more thing where the city is told to STFD & STFU by state courts. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Baltimore is terrible in terms of straight numbers, but the "Murder Capital" title is meeted out based on per capita numbers. Baltimore is large enough that even with its one per day average, it usually isn't even in the top five. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

The NRA and I agree with that. Look up Project Exile. The NRA backed it, and anti-gun people opposed it even after it was shown to be effective. They'd rather hand out bike locks. --- Honestly, I would have no problem with the registration required to do this (disclaimer: big "if") if I could trust the people holding the list not to use it against gun owners. Since that's never happened in history (and in fact the opposite has happened every time), I still refuse to condone any sort of registration. How many times must I explain to you that "well regulated" does not mean "should have many regulations?" It means 'in good working order.' ps - oh yeah, and it worked so well for Canada. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

There was archery equipment stowed away in the back corner of the Phys Ed/ Athletic Dept storage. It never saw the light of day, even though an entire class requested it. left blank because this still doesn't deserve a response Do I need to re-paste the stats where the UK recently surpassed the US in violent crime rate? ps - I do support keeping more US dollars at home. However, I tend to get called uncaring or greedy when I say that any other time. Or maybe we just know that criminals will always be able to get guns in any country, so we want normal citizens to have access to the same tools criminals get their paws on. I'm not shaking in my shoes right now while I'm home with my folks (in NJ, where I can't own a handgun even though I can carry in some thirty or so other states). It's not that I personally need the firearm every second. It's about the choice. It's about knowing the people can decide for themselves how best to keep themselves safe. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

OK, I thought people understood this, u I guess I have to make it clear. No one is suggesting that pilots open the door, leave the cockpit, and begin room-clearing. The cockpit door is to remain closed as much as possible. In the case of an attempted hijack, the pilot would leave the door closed and locked, and attempt to land at the nearest airport. The firearm is the last line of defense in case the door is breached. It is to prevent hijackers from gaining control of the plane. THE GUN IS THE LAST CHOICE. The only option after a pilot's gun is an F-18 and it's missiles. Only after ecerything else fails would a pilot go to the gun. what is it aobut some people that they think a gun will turn someone into John Wayne? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
