  1. I don't mean just snow on the ground, I mean while it is actually snowing! I did one last Saturday. I found out snow can also be painfull while under canopy
  2. We drink because if we didn't we would die of thirst! We smoke because someone has set us on fire I dunno why people can't answer such simple questions themselves
  3. Errr , the problem is really at my end. There is no sensible way of providing video to someone who only has a 50k baud modem.
  4. Imposter! Or are there "The Two Ronnies" here ( British joke!)
  5. Talking does not help on the internet.... use your keyboard!
  6. Thanks for your support in my poll Kele01
  7. skydiving in the S&T forum with the title :- Skydiving is one of the most dangerous of the risky sports that is safer than the unsafe more dangerous risky ones that are maybe less safe.
  8. I use Ulead video studio (or is it media studio?) 1. I always create an AVI (NSTC or PAL) for the final video. No compression, uses about 2 gigs per 10 mins. 2. If I want to put it to VHS I copy the avi back to the camera and then make the VHS tape from the camera. 3. If I want a CD I convert the AVI using TMPGenc to MPEG-2 then I use VCDEasy to create the CD ( really a SVCD). I can't view your video now, I've only got a 50k modem
  9. Ahh but elfanie discounted this reply with... ***[/I'm not saying, "Is a wing loading of 1.8 safer than a wing loading of 2.4?" quote] How much do you weigh?
  10. Sorry, but without more details I cannot agree with this statement. How high is the building and what type of rig? Training is also important, not for russian roulette, but for the base jump.
  11. Assuming that the different sizes are for the same type of canopy, and that the weather conditions are appropiate for the canopy being jumped. I would say Yes. But it's only safer, not safe
  12. The text under the saftey and training section reads funny. I think this is better There is a direct relationship between your knowledge, skill and attitude and skydiving safety. Safety should be your #1 priority and this is the place to grow in all three of those areas. Ok picky I know
  13. Don't you mean it's not brain science dude?
  14. I'm outta here, the horse has started to decompose
  15. Could you then not take the step to say bowling is so much safer than skydiving that in effect - Skydiving is not safe
  16. I don't think they have the same opinion. Elfanie has already said that by your definition of safe that nothing, absolutely nothing is safe. Now I think Ron has a different opinion. He thinks that there are some things that are safe, like bowling for instance (my example not Ron's). Ron does not think skydiving is safe. elfanie thinks both Baseball and skydiving are safe. Or do I not underdstand Edited to replace bowling with baseball - I posted at the same time as elfanie's last post
  17. Smart move Now how long do you think you'd be researching about how cars are built, designed, tested etc before you were really qualified to assess whether a car is safe? I know I don't want to even start doing that all by myself. In the case of skydiving it appears to me that you have come to an opinion before the research is finished. I am afraid I have not got time (even if I could) to put all of Ron's experience, observations etc into this post.
  18. Just got the Chinese Take Away menu have we? I'll have Chicken Flied Lice
  19. Oooppps... I done it again OK, I agree with you that Ron is no better than you at forming opinions in general. But when it comes to opinions about skydiving would you argue with idea that he is more qualified, has a better understanding, is more experienced. As an example : A car mechanic can also form opinions about whether your car is safe. But would you go to a doctor and ask him if your car is safe? If your doctor said "I have the same car as you and I feel the risks involved in driving it are acceptable", but the mechanic said "it's a death trap", who would you believe? We all drive cars, but there are people more qualified to form opinions about what is safe and what is not. This is what I meant by "out of your league". In my opinion it does. When people assess risks they do not look at single instances. My baby fell out of the high chair, therefore high chairs are dangerous. They look at the big picture. Sometimes it can take years to absorb all the information needed to make a proper assessment. You have formed your opinion about this sport and Ron has his. Surely you can see why people would tend to believe Ron's opinion rather than yours.
  20. You see I am British, born in England, an the phrase that springs to mind is "we are not amused". Queen Vic if I'm not mistaken. You are continuing to engage Ron in an arguement where you are hoplessly out of you league. This is not intended as an insult. It is simple fact. But don't worry we have all (nearly) done that at one time or another. Quit the confrontaion and just listen, it's far easier, make your decisions and when you you've been around the sport for a bit longer someone might listen to you. By the way, I am probably rambling to much now. The beer is nice here in Germany.
  21. $1200 for 2 mins of freefall video (that 2 camera's on one jump) from a crappy RW6 plus a few digital stills. Is that ok? I won't charge the pax's that sort of money, but for media folks It's too cheap
  22. Now you have something that really is horrific. Unlike skydiving, where when you screw up, its all over in 80 seconds, kids haunt you for the rest of your life. I know, I have two. Nightmare. I know where you are coming from with the "skydiving is safe" routine. I also agree with Ron's view. The only difference between me and Ron is that I have a bit more patience in waiting for you to change your mind Dare I say, it's relatively safe to wait for you to change your mind You will never change Ron's opinion, but that does not matter. What really matters is that you continue to jump and learn and if by pure chance you are still with us in 10 years, you will understand Ron's point of view. You have stated often enough that you are prepared to accept the risk. Why bother trying to convince people it's safe.
  23. What really pisses me of is the fucking idiots that want to shut down our airport Now I am really pissed, if I ever see one of them I am sure I will be in jail very quickly. We even offered to buy the damm thing, but no way, it has to be shut down. Just because some idiots decided to build houses at the the end of the runway. They don't like the noise now so we must shut the airport down. FUCKING IDIOTS!!! Why did you build there in the first place It will be closed this summer, right in the middle of high season, And somehow I don't feel any better for letting all this out
