  1. Probaly in the majority of cases but not always. Depends on the person and what type of training best suits them. Depending on where you jump weather can really screw things up for AFF. Meanwhile the S/L student is progessing with his/her 5k jumps just below the cloud base. Assuming they both have the same number of jumps, why should the S/L have better canopy skills than the AFF? Dave
  2. I don't think there is not a lot of difference in the time it takes for the canopy to open be it at full speed or at low speed. At terminal you are covering the distance to the ground a lot more quickly than you are just after exit. But still, you are right, it's low, I will try to avoid those sort of jumps in the future.
  3. 1 foot from a Cessna 182. Of course I did not need to pull. Lowest where I pulled was ~1400 ft. Used my main which was a Vengeance 120. Dave
  4. That is hardly a hop & pop. I done a 7 point two way from 5K I suspect Airspeed would double the amount of points doing a 4 way from 5k which shows how crap I am at RW Dave
  5. First off just to be clear, this is definately not about shooting arrows nor do I have an axe to grind. The only problem I have with this reasoning is that I know a number of people with more than a 1000 jumps that do not jump ellipticals. I would expect that a bit more thought went into the decision than "They are going to jump them anyway lets start them as early as possible on them." Dave
  6. Thanks for the reply. So if I understand correctly, the first jump is not made on an elliptical, but on a square. So what is the decision criteria for a change to semi- elliptical and then later to a full elliptical. Also why do the students start on a Sabre when there are more docile canopies that they can start on. I do not want to start a discussion on the wrongs or rights. However, someone must have had some reasoning as why the students should go this way. It's the reasoning I am after. Dave
  7. I picked this up from RevJim in another thread... Can someone please expalin what the above statement actually means. 1. Do the students make their first jump on ellipticals? 2. What wing load do they start on? 3. Are they always Stiletto's? 4. Most importantly, what is the reasoning being it. This is a genuine request for more info. If you do not want to post it here please PM me. If there is a link to another thread that has already discussed this topic, the moderator can post the link and lock the thread. Dave
  8. So ..... You have $100, you must spend it all. You need to buy exactly 100 animals. You can't buy half an animal, but you buy at least one of each. On offer are Cows for $10 each Pigs for $3 each and Hens for 50 cents each. How many of each animal must you buy? Orders please....
  9. Ater the hint it becomes soooo easy. I knew someone would spoil it. Dave
  10. I am afraid I can't give any links to back this up but I have heard there was a "Danish?" study into the physiological effects of skydiving. This study showed that there was little difference between new skydivers and experienced skydivers. Dave
  11. My first main was a Springo 160 loaded at ~1.05. I did my first 40 jumps or so on student gear. Dave

    Dream cutaway

That is a real coincidence because I had a dream that I congratulated you on doing a great job. Also in my dream you bought a case of beer for the 1st cutaway. Let's all get together and dream that we drink it tonite. Dave
  13. and I still talk the video guys after doing video. I also talk to video guys who have less video jumps than me. Sorry to nit pick, but those two lines just sorta jumped out at me. Dave I don't know shit, and probley never will.
  14. In your original post I think you really only made one mistake. That was where you wrote "TM" you really meant to write "Freeflier". Anyway let's get back on topic and talk about bragging. Dave
  15. I thought he was explaining what happened after answering all those junk mails offering to "Make it B.gger".
  16. IMHO a crazy idea, get him to put it back a.s.a.p. I have seen very few people (if any) that should be jumping a vengeance with 275 jumps. I find the vengeance tends to be ground hungry when compared to canopies such a the stiletto. I also find the the openings on a vengeance tend to be more, can we say unpredictable? than any other elliptical I have jumped. I have not had enough experience on my Velocity to make comparisons. I started jumping my Vengeance at ~600 jumps. As some else has already said, seems like a lot of new things at once, not a smart idea. Dave
  17. Pulling very high is less likely to put jumpers that exited after you in danger than pulling a little bit high (say 1000ft above normal). You must plan on horizontal seperation working. If you don't have horizontal you maybe screwed anyway. Without enough experience pulling on sight can be dangerous as well. I would tell my students if they see their alti is stuck, to PULL. There is far more risk in a low pull for a student than a high pull. If I was on my own I would pull high.

  19. give him the Nobel peace prize like they did Arafat!
  20. That is brilliant! I have not laughed so much for ages.
  21. Viking seems to be pretty good at murdering the Queens English. This post for example. How can a person be like 8 ?
  22. Camera flyers may be using wing suits (not Birdman) which can also influence stability on opening. When filming Tandems some go on their backs to film the openings then flip over and pull in maybe not in the most stable of positions. All my jumps from jump #50 have been on ellipticals, I have been in lines twists a few times but never needed to cutaway (~500 jumps with camera) There again my Sony only adds a couple of pounds weight to my head.
  23. I use Media Studio Pro V6.0. Came bundled with the firewire card for my PC. Tried using Premier but found it too confusing. You like what you know best. It all depends what you want to do. For tandem videos Media Studio offers more features than you really need. For year end videos maybe Media Studio is missing a few things that Premier has. I have heard that Pinnacle is easy but very basic. As FreakyDiver said, you can download trail versions of many video editing packages. A better idea, if possible, is to find a vidiot that uses one of the above and ask he/she can give you a quick intro on how to use it. I found getting started was the hardest thing. Dave
  24. I had one wisdom tooth removed and jumped a few days later with no problems. That was with local anaesthetic though.
  25. I dunno what's going on in pics 3 to 6. All I know is that psycho part only starts to deviate from normal Pro pack at the point when you put the canopy on the ground. So 3 to 6 are really just parts of a normal pro pack. I would really get someone who psycho packs to show you how to do it though. Doing it from pictures may lead to strange results I have no problem packing brand new canopies pro pack anyway. For me the only reason to use psycho is to get better openings. Dave
