If you have never jumped a Katana and you don't intend to jump one for quite some time why buy one now? By the time you have the experience to jump a wing load of 1.6 to 1 you might also have enough experience to choose a different canopy. I am not saying there is anything wrong with the Katana, it's just that you may decide another canopy is your dream canopy. If it's prestige ( I have the 1st Katana in Russia) it seems an awful lot of money to pay for something that stays in a display cabinet for a few years.

Probably not, but I wouldn't think it was "safe" either. My inexperience probably makes me feel more fear than someone with a lot of jumps. Here's a question.... do you inspect your gear before you jump? Do you get gear checks?, practice EPs? Will you continue to do these things when you have a lot of experience? I sure feel that I will. I feel that they are necessary to keep me as safe as I can be and I really don't imagine getting that complacent. On the way, visualize what you will do if someone pulls out in front of you Then imagine and practice your response if you have a tire blow out while you're on the freeway Get out to the car.. Check air pressure in the tires Are the brake lights working? Turn signals? Does the horn work? Check the webbing on the seat belt - fasteners clean and free of dirt? Ok... get in the car and start it up Seatbelt properly routed? Air bag turned on? Pull out of the driveway and hit the road. Left turn - check! Right turn - check! Brake test - check! If our students have to land in the plane due to winds they ALWAYS get their ticket back. It is the instructors decision whether a student is allowed to jump. If the instructor packs the student in the plane and then the student can't jump why the hell should the student pay for the ticket?

I'm with Tonto and Bill on this one. The slider is the most important factor in the speed of the opening. If it's not against the stops you'll get slammed. Where it's placed is also important for some canopies. My vengeance just won't open fast, probaly due to the air locks. A Super 7 from paratec will slam you unless the slider is pulled all the way out in front of the nose. Rolling the tail is really just a packing aid. It keeps everything together when you put the canopy in the bag.

Got an up to date virus scanner and checked my system at home. 2 copies of sobig in the "_restore" directory 6 unsafe javascripts found in the temporary internet files diectory. So I guess I lost, my system was not clean. Even so, the viruses were not active I even got a chance to test my new virus scanner Someone sent me mydoom so I tried to run it. Yep, the virus scanner caught it.

On my computer at home I don't have adequate and up to date virus protection. I go on the internet on a reqular basis and have never had a virus infect my machine.
