Go find a single professional trainer who believes 'teasing' any wild animal is a good idea or a way to remain health when inside its territorial boundaries. Good thing that zoos generally do a good job in creating enclosures that are meant to protect both the animals and the general public....and that they don't assume the general public to have the same knowledge of animal behavior as professional animal trainers do. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. i'm guessing you have no experience with wild animals.. they can be provoked, different species have different triggers. Somehow I bet that in the wild, standing 50 feet from the critter with your finger up your nose will get you eaten as quickly as dangling your foot over a wall will. My bet is that the tiger's triggers didn't evolve in the zoo. People expect barriers to be *real* in the zoo. *Teasing* an animal certainly does nothing to the animal that's any worse than what's been done to him by confining him. You and I are not speaking the same language if you think the concept of responsibility applies to any non cognizant (ie non human until we meet another) "animal" Well, you're talking about the animal as if it understands the concept of "teasing" and "taunting." No. Just the idiots who taunt and tease the animals. I don't know. I think gawking at 'em through bars is kinda rude too. You think the tiger believes that the boy sticking his foot through is in need of eating more than the rest of the people standing around pointing at him? Either way, when people visit the zoo, they usually expect that the enclosures meet a certain standard. All the people walking around would, otherwise, be food for the critters. I'm sure there are folks who believe all people going to the zoo deserve to die. actually he did.. actions have consequences, something that has been greatly lost by people who view predatory animals as 'pets' and entertainment. Do you behave around animals in the zoo the same as you would if they (and you) were in the wild??? I doubt it. If you don't, if you stand at the rail and gawk at them, are you showing them inadequate respect? Do all zoo-goers who gawk at animals deserve to be eaten for going to the zoo? When people are at the zoo, they tend to TRUST that the enclosures are adequate. People shouldn't dangle their feet inside the fence, but even so the enclosure should have met the appropriate standard. Christmas was awesome this year. After Christmas Day was over, I worked a bit longer then picked up my son from his dad's house. Had gift-giving and Santa at my house tonight, and I do believe it was my son's happiest Christmas too. It's great when Christmas really does end up being merry. Tomorrow night my son and I will open our presents and do the Santa thing. I have 6 hours left of a 108-hour ER shift. It's been a bugger, and I'm tired. But I really think it's been my favorite Christmas in a long time....and then my son and I can quietly exchange gifts tomorrow night and Thursday morning. Grill ourselves up some steaks for dinner. I would say that owning a gun does not make a person safer but does give a person a means to defend oneself. That right there is the crux. Put whatever statistics in there that ya' like. If a person is, statistically, 90% likely to be killed by his own gun (advocating for the devil here), he's still the one who should be able to choose whether he wants a gun to defend himself. His ability to use that weapon is what affects those statistics. If he thinks he's in the best 1% in terms of being able to use a gun to defend himself, should he have to give his up because the other 99% aren't as capable as he is and put themselves at greater risk??? Hell no, imho. It's an individual's choice if he/she wants to own a gun....not the state's place to make that kind of choice for the individual, imho. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. It's evil....just like Stinky Gringo Margaritas. Someone smarter than me explain it to me. Say ya' have a little 200 mL Stinky Gringo margarita in the little plastic bottle it comes in. The Stinky Gringo is 36 proof. Ya' keep 'em in the freezer. Comes time to enjoy one, ya pull it from the fridge in its seemingly original liquid phase. But when ya' shake it a little, small clumps of an apparently icy substance precipitates out. Then very quickly, the whole thing....the whole Stinky Gringo turns into a slushy icy drink.
