I watched it yesterday. It was political propaganda, combining sensationalist footage of violence and Koranic verses out of context in order to convince viewers that Islam is a religion of violence. It is no different from someone taking footage of KKK or Eric Rudolph violence, adding some out of context Bible verses, and claiming that Christianity is a religion of violence. Either might appear credible to those ignorant of the topic, but neither would be an accurate representation of the religion. Let there be no compulsion in religion. (Koran, 2:257) As bad as other religions may be, at least they don't threaten with violence those that point out their proclivity towards violence. Then again, maybe they're just not that stupid. Islam doesn't threaten violence either. Radical groups do...even governments (in the case of Saudi Arabia for instance). Same with Christianity. Christianity doesn't threaten violence against blacks and Jews (for doing absolutely nothing other than being black or Jewish), but the KKK does. Christianity doesn't threaten to kill physicians who perform abortions, but the Lambs of Christ and the Army of God do. These extremist groups have a purpose that they try to legitimize by applying religious doctrine to their causes. Interesting. But I also find it interesting that here in the US people are plenty vocal about their views on Mexicans coming into our country illegally. I don't think that Mexicans are always perceived as the victims of the rest of us....nor do I think that when we do not "comply with their demands" that we are guilty of prejudice or racism. There is a segment of our society that likes to throw those terms out there, but those sentiments are far from the norm, imho. Which one has started more wars? Well, once God was an ANGRY God....then he became loving. Now maybe he's angry again. To review what social animals are capable just look back in history 60 years and thank somebody that you are not writing your statement in German. And??? What's your point here? Are you saying that Germany is an atheistic society? Or did the Third Reich occur under God's watchful eye? Either way, it doesn't matter. I think that as societies have evolved, it has benefitted people to strike a balance between cooperation, intolerance of some things, and self-serving motives. It is certainly not beneficial to survival for everyone only to be out for number one. I think our moral code comes more from what has benefitted us in terms of survival than from God's dictum. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. Believing in God doesn't mean God exists. Perhaps we HAVE evolved morally even without the existence of God. Hmm. Morals, ethics, guilt, punishment....the only way those depend on God is in the way they're perceived. The God-fearing folks have the fear of God as a foundation for these. The agnostic/atheist crowd have their own sense of right and wrong, independent of God, as a foundation. I think resorting to survival of the fittest is also independent of God. If ya' want to talk about what we get for our taxes, how about AIRPORTS! And only a few people benefit from them....and we get to use 'em FREE! I think it's great!!! She's barely at 7 years in the Senate. If she were to become president, she will have had 8...that's what I was referring to. I don't think she is unqualified. I just do not like her stances on things. Me neither. Funny that I keep finding myself defending different things about her here. Just that these things people keep saying are so asinine... I think that goes without saying. But what I have questions about is how they organized this. For a group of children to come together and organize something so malicious is pretty amazing. I'm wondering if these are kids who, individually, probably wouldn't have made such a violent plan and who behaved differently because of some group mentality or something. Or are there that many kids in one third-grade classroom who have absolutely no conscience? That's a scary thought.
