That is way too little information for such a call. Maybe too little information, but still applicable. It's too easy to do. My hopefully-soon-to-be surely-eventually-will-be ex wanted to quit his job so that he could draw unemployment and go to school. It was one of our last arguments, because I would have NO part of that--thought and still think it's entirely trashy. Religions often take people out of the world and isolate its memebers by defining for people what is good and bad, holy and evil. Many people, because of their religion, see all Muslims (as a timely example) as bad because their church or religious group defines Muslims in a certain way. There are many, many more examples. I read something in a previous thread about Baptists and Catholics....about Mormons....nobody has much to say about the Methodists. But either way, peoples connection with the rest of the world is very often limited by religion. Maybe the cults that we hear most about have been extremely controlling in these areas (Heaven's Gate and People's Temple come immediately to mind), but I'm sure there are many other "cults" that aren't so easily distinguished from any other religious sect around. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. I suppose that if I ever let my bones become osteoporotic, then I'd stop jumping. If my coronaries get clogged I'll take a break... It might be interesting to jump once alzheimer's sets it....who knows. Cystocele? Rectocele? Right. That's what I meant when I said, "...might look for new solutions to the problem that could benefit society as a whole." Most solutions that will make any impact will cost money. Most that are effective require real problem-solving efforts and relatively thorough understanding of the dynamics underlying the problems to be solved. Unfortunately our usual solutions DO cost money, but most are not effective at addressing those underlying problems for one reason or another. I also favor certain social programs, and I'm a Democrat. BUT I can't help but see how many of our programs DO hurt society as a whole and the individuals they're intended to help. When we have people who are the 5th generation living on welfare, THAT's a problem. People grow up knowing nothing else, and since people can subsist on what our social programs offer, it takes a strong person to escape the cycle. I don't see the differences you do. Today's "liberal" seems to fit very well with the definition given by Billvon IMO. I see the difference very clearly. A liberal by the definition that billvon quoted, when confronted with a problem such as poverty, might look for new solutions to the problem that could benefit society as a whole. In reality, liberals are likely to tax the taxpayers to pay for programs that often perpetuate the problem, or pass legislation like affirmative action. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. Two yolks in an egg are the same as when a woman ovulates 2 eggs instead of one. With people, if two eggs are ovulated, one or both may be fertilized, but it would require two separate sperm to fertilize them. I would imagine it's the same for chickens. Unfortunately people can screw you over whether you visit the forums or not. If you choose to interact with people, they can and sometimes do make a point to hurt you. I hope that Kev will come back when the taste in his mouth isn't so sour. It stinks that this happened, but you really can't expect that the people who visit these forums will really be any more ethical than any other group of folks.... Psychosis is a real phenomenon. I didn't follow this situation closely at all, and I don't know what her mental state was. IF she was psychotic then I can see that she might not be held accountable. If a person whom I had been close to lost touch with reality and did some horrible, horrible, unthinkable thing, I would probably be in disbelief. It would probably be a lot easier to see the injustice in convicting a psychotic person of a crime if the person were a real person whom I had been close to. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. We've all seen the Death By Medicine Articles. The other article touts homeopathic remedies. Many allopathic physicians would absolutely agree that there's good in many of these remedies. What you said though, was that some of their homeopathic remedies are superior to some of our allopathic remedies. I got a new dell laptop for Christmas. So far so good...but of course there hasn't been time for anything to go wrong yet. I'm hopeful.
