If you aren't a *nix person, I'd skip the Apache myself and stay on the Windows platform you are familiar with. There are plenty of freeware and shareware programs that let you run web pages off of an XP Home machine. Or if you are more motivated, switch your web server box over to Win2k Server. That way, you can use IIS5 instead of PWS. The *nix geeks may disagree, but I say it is better to be a competant Windows admin than push the envelope and be an incompetant *nix one. Stick with what you know.

Be careful with wireless. Unless you know what you are doing, it is an invitation to gaping security holes.

What speed is your processor? The software runs okay even on some fairly old machines. It just crunches more slowly. I have a couple 266s running folding. You can work with a new screamer of a computer, or a herd of old ones, or just one dinosaur. It all helps.

Not only do I have offspring, I have photographic evidence that I have a wife. So far, zippity squat in photos from you. And if there isn't photo or video, then you know it didn't happen. Perhaps you aren't really a man at all, just some form of lonely and severely deluded neuter alien. That would explain a lot. Not a personal attack, if it is factual, or presented as a plausible hypothesis, right?

I didn't say Folding@Home didn't work on Win98. FireDaemon doesn't seem to work in Win98. We were discussing it in the context of hiding the existence of Folding from users.

I don't think it works on Win98, but hiding it from users is exactly what it does. You install Folding@Home as a service, and it runs without anything in the task bar. You can also remove the FireDaemon icons from the desktop and start menu, so nobody would notice it unless they specifically looked for it. If you do this stuff, be careful. Some companies frown upon it, and people have been fired over it. Get permission from an IT admin or something first.
