  1. I have 30 jumps. Saturday, I had a lnading that I was not proud of. I set up a little long on my pattern and I was a little lower than I wanted as I was starting my base leg. I was aware of 2 other canopies that were in the pattern with me and I made sure to know where they were. I turned to my base fairly low, about 200 ft. That is when I saw another skydiver on the ground gathering his canopy. I made a correction; but, it was more than I wanted at that height. I landed safely and did not hit the guy on the ground. The first thing I did was apologize to the guy on the ground. I am responsible to know that he was there. A few seconds later, another skydiver came over to me. He's a little brash and a little loud sometimes; but, always fun. I thought I was going to get my ass chewed. He asked was I ok. He asked me what I did wrong. Then he gave me a little advice. He was genuinely concerned about what I did and wanted to be sure I understood. The focus was what happened, why it happened, and how to avoid it. I know I have a lot to learn. I am not happy with my landing today. In a way though, I am glad it did happen. I was lucky Saturday. I got away with a rookie mistake. I definitely learned something today. I also learned that there are some really great people in this sport. Thanks guys. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  2. Who was flying Julie or Dan? We get some pretty good spots at the Ranch. I would not use the helmet again until it is inspected by the manufacturer. The polystyrene layer that absorbs that help disperse the loads of the impact may have been damaged. It may not look damaged; but, I would not use it myself. Send it to Bonehead and see what they say. Funny I have a stange dent on the roof of my truck. Someone told me it small meteor that hit it while I was up on a load. What an amazing coincidence. 3. The Ranch is your best bet in the Northeast. 16.50 to 13.5k. The Supper Otters and lots of good people. If you need any info on the Ranch, feel free to PM me. I'll try to help you out if I can. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  4. I know I only have 27 jumps; but, I took Scott's class on 6/5 at the Ranch. It was great!! It helped my landings, and gave me the basics to work on to improve my canopy flight. Scott's a real nice guy and a very good instructor. I will take his class again. One thing, you might want to bring a VHS tape. Scott will give you a copy of all you landings if you have a tape. Definitely worth it. Have fun, it's 5 great jumps. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  5. Clowns!!! Clowns are creepy. John Wayne Gacy was a clown, Ringling Brothers had a pedophile clown. They are just different in a bad way. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.

    I'm Cured!

Did they fix the case of the crazies you had? The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  7. I was a little concerned at first; but, Scott put me at ease right away. I figure now is the time to learn the right way to fly. Maybe I can avoid some of the bad habits early on. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  8. Why would that be surprising? I seen Navy guys drink. I'm not at all surprised. They got the job done and had some fun. Go Navy! The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  9. I took Scott Miller's class on Saturday. It was GREAT. It was worth every penny and the time. I would recommend it to eveyone. It's five jumps with learning objective on each jump. I'm sure that the class helped me. All five jumps had our landing video taped. We worked on flat turns, long spots, collapsing our canopy and flaring. As a beginner, it reinforced all my training and the classroom time gave me a better understanding of how my canopy work and why it reachs the way it does. If you ever have the opportunity, take this class. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  10. Steve, Congrats on a good decision. If you don't think you can land it, cut it away. I'm glad you are ok. I just took Scott Miller's class this Saturday. We spoke about landing on rear risers. Scott said it's difficult to land rear risers and if you are unsure about landing rear riser, cut it away. If you walked away unhurt, you made the right choice. 11. You always stand by your friends. Tell them in no uncertain terms why you think what he is doing is dangerous or wrong. If you are his friend, you will do everything you can to help keep him safe. If not, just be there to help pick up his broken body. He's still your friend. Even if he's wrong, don't leave him alone. Luck

I've had my share of good and bad luck over the last 2 years. I was not woking for 7 months. Took up skydiving
  14. No Sorry to be blunt. If you hurt it again, you'll just be on the ground even longer. Why risk it? It's only a few more days or a week until it's healed. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  15. John, I'm signed up for the course and I'm going to do my best to get every penny worth out of it. I've heard lots of good things about Scott Miller, I'm glad I have the opportunity to take his class. I've heard some rumors you're a pretty good packer. And one of the people to go to with questions. I might have to buy you a beer or ten over the summer. B The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  16. Thanks Tom. As always you have very good, detailed info. I've been practicing packing with Sebastia on the school side. When it's not too busy, he has walked me through my pack jobs. My goal is to feel confident that I can completely disasemble my rig and put it back together without worry who packed the reserve. I also want to know what to look for to prevent problems. I guess being Sebastian's packing whore for a little while is a good start for now. Later I will bother Linda to teach me more. Thanks again. 20. The Ranch in Gardiner NY!! You'll have a great time. If you need directions or info, send me a message. [url]www.ranchskydive.com/ The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  21. I'm a new skydiver, only 21 jumps. I am interested in taking a rigging class to help me understand my gear better and to teach me how to better inspect it. Anyone know of any classes around NYC or near the Ranch in Gardiner NY? Also what would the approximate cost be? Thanks, Brian The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  22. I'm a nudist with good credit. Can I share? The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  23. And the farting in the Otter. We get to 14k in a little under 20 minutes with a full load. In that time, the intestinal pressure relief valve will release pressure at least twice. The only thing I hate about the large groups is the farting. With 22 people who were out late Saturday night, the Otter cannot get to altitude fast enough. 24. Bergh, Sorry to say that the Kudu looks like dodo. I would definitely jump it though. If I ever make it down your way, save a slot for me. B The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
