  1. FREAKY! Reminds me of a trip I took last Thanksgiving, out to Centralia, PA. I've got some amazing pictures, but many are similar to the ones you'll see on this site: http://www.offroaders.com/album/centralia/centralia_07102003.htm Its true about the smell I couldn't get it out of my clothes for days. Hubby and I spent a good hour hiking around the hills and collecting gas and ground sample for our own tiwsted pleasure. Eerily similar, unforunately. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  2. Happy Birthday Jeanne!

  4. I liked the one jessd had - it was from that Michelangelo painting (I forget what that one was exactly called), but it was the one with Moses I think... Lemme see if I can find it. Here it is!!: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1008972;#1008972 Coolest tattoo I've ever seen! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  5. I find most of the stuff on this site to be paranoid conspiracy theories, but this article caught my eye. I hope that the legal system does something RIGHT for once and avenges the wrong doing here. More can be found at the following link: http://www.infowars.com/print/ps/jailed4sign.htm First Amendment, Schmirst Amendment WAFF.com "You can look through 'em all." Up to his ears in legal documents, P hillip D ean is fed up with the judicial system. "That's the kind of court system we've got in J ackson C ounty , A labama and I want everybody to know , " Dean says. So he put a sign in his front lawn saying "Our Court System Is a Joke." A message landing him behind bars. " I was in a cell about four foot wide and six foot long and nothing in it but a toilet," he explains. Arrest orders signed by J udge H aralson claim D ean to be in direct contempt of court , even though the sign is on County Road 107, not in the county courthouse. "The signs were so derogatory to the court they could not be ignored ," Haralson responds in a local paper. With Dean locked up, the signs were removed. " Before they would let me go in front of J udge H aralson , " Dean says. " They put leg shackles, they put handcuffs, they put chains from my legs up to my waist. they put a chain around my waist. they put chains from my waist up here and had my hands pulled up like this." With an apology, Haralson released D ean after a day in jail , but the experience leaves D ean with unanswered questions. " When it gets to where a man hadn't got any free speech in this world, what has he got?" he asks. Answers he hopes to find with a message already back in place. Arianna Frances
  6. Noticed you took off posting status (which is a good thing) - perhaps you can list location in its place? I know I'm always looking to see where people are from. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  7. Out of the 3 places I did tandems, only one (the last one, and the one I'm doing AFF at) took the time to acknowledge my existance. This is the prime reason why I'm doing AFF at Jumptown. I think alot of it has to do with buisiness practices. The first place I jumped at fit into the 'tandem factory' category, and I didn't get anyone to say 'hi' - the TM didn't even offer information to me when I mentioned I wanted to go again (isn't that a sign that maybe this person would like AFF and I should give them some information?). The second place was going through legal troubles, and as such, couldn't accept me (as I have some medical liability attached to me), even with my drs. note. Jumptown, on the other hand, is a club. At my FJC last night our instructor (who is totally awesome!) start with "We are a teaching dropzone, much like a teaching hospital...". What a refreshing change! I don't think its the people so much, as it is the 'vibe' that the DZO is allowing to be perceived. I'm fairly outgoing, I'll say HI to folks if they look lost/confused etc. but not vice versa. I hope someone would do the same for me at a new place. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  8. Congrats Cindi!!! Thats so cool!!
  9. Not sure if this is a problem or not, but in trying to create a new email grouping I don't have the ability to select which address will be added? I hope its just me doing something wrong... Thanks for any advice! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  10. Hey I tried my best, really - its censored as much as possible without compromising my point Don't worry girly, your secrets safe with me! Jen Arianna Frances
  11. Seeing as I try my best to stay ontopic in non talkback type forums I am being hypocritical... but I have to ask this: Why do you always feel the need to degrade someones opinion? I see it in the majority of posts you make and wonder why you consider it to be constructive? Arianna Frances
  12. I know my opinion matters about as much as the computer screen your reading this on... but I'll shoot anyway. I have been reading through this thread and the threads that lead up to Talkbacks demise (so to speak) and since no one has said exactly why it was shut down, I'll take a stab at it. 1. The forum got too big. 2. Too many totally non-skydiving posts were made 3. The moderators were spending too much time trying to censor. 4. Everyone got tired of seeing the same stuff crop up again and again. From what I read, size wasn't the issue. It was suggested that threads be deleted but was told that wasn't necessary. The forums 'rules' were sporadically enforced which is confusing to people that posted. Personal attacks were labeled as one of the only rules why a thread would be locked, yet many threads were overlooked. The thread that started the riot in talkback said nothing against the 'rules' - I think this was were the majority of the problem lies. It's unclear where we stand with the moderators. I post alot of political threads in talkback because I enjoy discussing politics with skydivers. If I wanted to have a political discussion with Joe Regular - I would (and have!). If this is against the 'rules' then say so! I don't think anyone was saying that you didn't have the right to do what you did, just if its done we need to know why - I think thats only fair. Moderators spending too much time... Set the rules, and chances are pretty good that people will follow them with minimal reinforcement, we just need to know what they are. All the topical forums have a "think before you post" sticky - why can't talkback? Too many threads on the same stuff... I can solve this one for you - really. The forums are set up here that each time a thread is replied to, it moves to the top. I'm a computer programmer, as are alot of ppl who frequent this site, and can solve this. Write the forum to post to the topic without moving it up in the que, and set it to purge all topics over 2 months old. Many larger sites do this - and it would solve the whole REPOST problem too. Seriously... I don't donate because like alot of other people we have no money, and I'm saving up for AFF/gear/jumps etc., but I would be willing to rewrite it for you - really. Talkback is an invaluable tool. I know you feel it is too much work right now - but its been the best for me. Just reading posts by other skydivers about aboslutely nothing has helped me to understand the culture involved, and has eased my mind tremendously about starting AFF this weekend. Similar to Dagny, I don't post on the skydiving topical forums becuase its been made pretty clear that us newbies don't belong. So where do the newbies go before they are no longer newbies? They go to Talkback to help understand the culture and learn by reading the topical forums. If Talkback is not around then I don't see myself staying around either - as Kris said, our instructors are more willing to help with any questions we may have about skydiving (and should be the first place we go anyway). I'm currently involved in an amazing skydiving project (and I'm not even a skydiver yet). This project has amazing potential. Through it I am no involved with some of the biggest and best names in skydiving. Without DZ.com this project would never (did I say NEVER) have even been mentioned if I hadn't spent time in Talkback, becuase without the time I spent in Talkback I wouldn't have felt comfortable enough to post in the particular forum I did in order for this project (which by the way, will impact the entire skydiving community - you wait and see), to even get off the ground. This site does amazing things for newbies. We love and appreciate all that you do for us, and skydiving in general (I know you guys don't hear this enough) - so please don't take it away from us. Just like any good relationship, communication is key - and I know you guys don't want to see anything bad happen from this. Jennifer Arianna Frances

    Any ALIAS fans?

I just hope they stay true to their writing.. I don't want to witness the day they 'jump the shark'... It'll be a sad day in TV when that happens... Similar to when it happened on X-Files, I cried that day Jennifer Arianna Frances

    Any ALIAS fans?

nah - the second season was much better. The interaction of Syndney's mom made the second season VERY fun to watch. Out of the first two seasons, season 2 is my fav to go back and watch. I wish she was coming back (Lena Olin), but apparantly she's having too much fun in Sweden or something Jennifer Arianna Frances

Ya - thats why alot of stuff is 'staged' in France, and thats why he took a job as a french teacher during his 'time off' while Syndney was gone. Not to spoil anything - but watch the coming episodes - Sydney gets a new family member! The episode DVDs ae great for giving you some cool insight into the show. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  19. Ya... lapse of judgement on my part... I usually imagined that my husband actually does the research... and he did... only after I posted... snopes should have been the first place I looked... Jennifer Arianna Frances
