  1. Jim Slaton's Groundlaunch Center might be a place to start. Brian Germain showed me some nice video of coastal soaring on sand dunes out there, somewhere near Monterrey I think. Soaring on dunes is the best place to start I think, much less dangerous than hill launches IMO. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  2. Hmm, exposed bridle from pin to PC pouch, flaps that come open easily because of inferior design, exposed risers, hmm can't think of any other reasons why you wouldn't want to freefly with it. Personally I wouldn't jump one, you can smack your gear on the door and have a premie too. You don't want to risk a mal because of inferior gear, this game is dangerous enough already. 3. Hi Everyone, I recently left a TM/Camera job in New Zealand to start my MBA. Part of my program involves a 7 month "corporate residency" work term. I would really like to use my skydiving connections to find out if any of us are high up in the finance industry. In keeping with my experience as an instructor I am interested in getting into risk management. Does anyone want to help me out? I already have an B. Commerce undergrad degree and would like to step up in the corporate ladder. Thanks, Brenan Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

  5. Yep this is what it's all about, I flew my Bobcat 16.5m in a 15mph wind for 90 mins on the beach the other day off a similar 80' hill, FOR FREEE!! GL specific gear makes this stuff 10x easier, I hear Point of the Mountain Utah and Sun Valley ID are the best places in the States to get some. 6. This post is way off base, I started SL, taught SL/ Gradual Freefall Progression before getting my AFF rating. It is inferior in almost every way. How many times do you need to see a mid backflip deployment on a first freefall or a spinning 20 sec delay student to figure out it sucks? 7. I used to hook up prior to takeoff until i had to bail out of a 185 with flames coming out of the engine attached to my passenger, now i prefer seatbelts. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  8. I think new swoopers need to learn with toggles first because plainly they will bail out a lot and rears cost time and altitude to judge whether you will be able to level off before becoming one with the earth. Just don't drop the damn things. Once a swooper's approach is consistent enough that they rarely use toggles to plain out then by all means start using rears every time. Sure it provides safety margin in case of a lost toggle or broken steering line but using rears also lulls us into a pattern of trying to use rears first which can be dangerous that one time you get really low. The biggest thing I have learned is that your angle of travel between 100' and the gates needs to be shallow to conserve kinetic energy from the dive and maximize safety. It took a long time for this to sink in, gotta give some props to AggieDave's suggestion to use double fronts more after completing my turn. 9. When I was working in New Zealand an AFF instructor told me he teaches tracking body position while actually docked on the student in a backslide. Saw his video and I think there's some benefit to that no matter what method you are teaching. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  10. A few months ago I bought a Gin Bobcat 16.5 and did some flights in New Zealand. After unsuccessful attempts to launch skydiving canopies with a makeshift harness the Bobcat seems like a gift from God. I would say to anyone who is trying to speedfly anywhere demo some Gin gear and get ready to be hooked. It has an incredible glide ratio and the ground handling is easy. I think it's more fun than flying my velocity. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

  12. So you think it would be a good idea to deploy the your main canopy with your cameraman entangled in your drogue? I gotta disagree with you there Rob. I have some tandem cutaways by the way and so far I've pulled them in the right order just fine. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  13. When I jump with cameramen who do a rear float exit I don't have trouble keeping an eye on him pre-drogue because I leave with my body parallel to the wing. Most of the time a bit of delay on the drogue helps him out because he's already lower. Still I don't really care if he has to dive a bit if it means I know I'm throwing my drogue into clear air. You have to admit even good cameramen make mistakes with exit timing sometimes. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  14. Drogue Inflated: I would disconnect RSL, give cameraman some freefall time to get clear, if he was not I would cut away and release the drogue and leave him with the mess, probably would be a good idea to make sure your risers are clear before deploying reserve, remembering he is on top of you somewhere. Not a good situation!! Drogue not inflated: Disconnect RSL, Cutaway, release drogue, try to track away a bit! Any thoughts guys? I also think when a cameraman is entangled you have to share the blame equally. Remember you are in control of deploying the drogue, if you threw and didn't know where he was it was an easily avoidable mistake, especially with a newbie !!!! Look first !! I have about 1200 tandems and I don't know if I would make these decisions in the proper order so I try to avoid the rsl's. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  15. My factory diver visor saved me a broken nose and maybe worse on a bigway exit, full face is wicked for freeflying!! Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  16. You should go with your gut and inspect your steering lines regularly if that is a concern for you, ask someone what to look for. A close friend of mine broke a steering line during his flare and subsequently broke his femur. The more you take care of your gear the more it will take care of you! 18. I have jumped with grads of the Christchurch school. It produces good cameraflyers. You will be a skilled but underqualified video guy when you come out. I say underqualified because manufacturers of tandem equipment recommed 500 jumps as a baseline for doing tandem video. New Zealand's requirement is only 200 but you will have trouble finding a job with those numbers. The cost is also quite high if you aren't from NZ where the gov't pays for half of it... you would be better off financially going to a large US dropzone and bargaining for 200 coached jumps and some tunnel time in my opinion. That said if you aren't on a budget go for it. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  19. I have a few seasons of SL dispatches and maybe 10 IAD loads, I think SL is preferable because students do some really F'd up S*%* on exit sometimes. Keep in mind most of them were from a 206U, I do like IAD for the 182 hanging exit because it's fairly predictable. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  20. I would go with a micro-sigma, precision reserve, icarus 330 and a cypres 2 or argus. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  21. You can do a flat spin with your canopy too. It involves a rear riser stall, known as helicopters (helis) in paragliding I think. Theres video of TJ doing it on his vx on Radix if I remember right. I have done a bunch on my velo 103 and they are fun. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

  24. I say Icarus, A2, Sigma, EZ .. never jumped firebolt. The Aerodyne tandem main I jumped was very sporty and the toggle pressure was the lightest of any tandem canopy I've jumped. Very sweet, wish I had more than 2-3 jumps on it to say more. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
