  1. A friend sent me Greg Windmiller's video about VK openings, it recommended using the front risers to bring down the slider when hung up. I tried this yesterday and worked like a charm. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  2. You can accomplish this without blades, see the Strong sidespin video for solo flat spin footage. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  3. Agree, on mine the drag of the pc seems to slow down the slider's descent enough to make for smooth openings similar to the stock slider. With just the removable slider they were too brisk. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  4. Some pond swoops on my vk103 loading 2.4 at skydive New England https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sdUMh45gmqI Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  5. Speed is proportional to the square root of wing loading. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  6. It's not perfect but I taped up the original mount with gaffer's tape and I think the setup is much better now. For 25 cents of tape it's pretty good value. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  7. I've done a handful of jumps on my new VK103 with removable slider, the openings are a bit quick at terminal, a less neat packjob seems to help. At subterminal as it is intended they are very nice. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

  9. I normally hate 3D movies but Mad Max was awesome, hopefully this reboot will not be a disaster. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  10. Even normal ZP can be trouble when wet. A few years ago after a dewy early morning jump I had a high speed mal on a Strong main that was wet from the dew on the landing area grass. When it came out of the bag the canopy just stayed in a sausage and I had to chop it. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

  12. Learning to speedfly on a Stiletto 135 is completely ridiculous at this time given the gear available. Even a relatively flat flying skydiving canopy has at best a glide ratio around 2-2.5:1. Speedfly canopies have about twice this glide, not to mention the rear riser trim tabs and other features which improve safety. I personally think skydivers should learn to paraglide before speedflying as the skillset required to assess and launch wings on foot safely in a variety of sites and conditions is not something most of us inherently possess. 16. Got out last weekend with the Bobcat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDd78wCvozI Not sure I agree it is easy to learn on, the wing tends to surge forward, more modern designs do not so much, makes light wind foot launch a bit challenging. 17. You can demo them at Superfly in Utah or Speedfly Soboba. Lessons early on are recommended. I am getting antsy for some flying on my Bobcat 16.5! Fazer is a great wing but definitely get the biggest one you can find for your first wing. 99% chance you will crash it in some way at some point in learning process, probably launching. Paragliding pilots already know a lot of essential lifesaving skills in speedfly that we as skydivers do not know. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  18. Not really, go watch videos of the pro swoopers where you can see the approach, the wing is level long before they get near the ground, that is the safest and most efficient way from my experience. The canopy should have no roll the whole way through the recovery arc. What is dangerous is having roll / still being in the turn near the ground
  19. Don't worry about getting more out of it, make sure your wing is level (ie. no roll) during your recovery from the carve / entry to the swoop. I would second the other posters urging you to get coaching during this high risk phase of the learning process. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  20. What you loading the 107 at? Is that the new canopy? How many jumps are you doing on a canopy before switching it? Landing video always appreciated. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  21. Many things about this post sound like a recipe for trouble. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  22. You are also slowing down your progress by not spending enough time on your wings before moving to the next one. At your experience level 100 jumps seems significant but when you are talking about learning to swoop it is not a lot of time. If you got hurt following (qualified?) people's advice my feeling is you probably are only hearing what you want to hear. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  23. I've worn one on about 200 jumps, the cons are the display can be hard to read in certain light conditions, also mine lags by about 500' in freefall unless you point it into the relative wind. The pros are very accurate under canopy and very little hassle overall. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  24. I think a better comparison is base jumping with skydiving gear. There are plenty of small speedwings out there like the Bullet or Fluid which hug the terrain and keep the pilot safer than a small parachute all other things being equal. 25. It's not too dangerous, its just more dangerous than it need be. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
