Ozone Fazer looks like a great all around new wing. I have a Gin Bobcat 16.5 which is great. I would say GLS is the last wing a beginner should be looking at. It is like starting your AFF on a crossbrace canopy. The guys at Speedfly Soboba or Superfly would help you out with lessons and wing selection in the US. Advice on building a one-instructor (AFP) program
AdD replied to jonathan.newman's topic in Instructors
Hey Rob, That exit is damn tricky from the instructor point of view. I did a bunch like that and ended up having a lot of trouble with my rig hitting the back of door and exits getting unstable. I ended up going to a crouching, head-jam style with most of my body outside the door and the student seated. This was on a plane with a very small step though. Maybe ground handling, ground launching skydiving parachutes isn't a great idea for anyone let alone novices. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream -
What does "exiting the aircraft improperly" mean exactly? Since when does the FAA have any say over that? Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

What exactly does that have to do with the plane crash? Can't say I miss working in the NZ skydiving environment. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

You would get more out of the 90's by doing double front hard, start turn by letting up right, lock in with harness and then finish on double front slowly letting up once on final. You will have to try it up high to figure out how much more altitude the turn will take. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

One comment on your video. You still have roll on your wing pretty low to the ground. It would be bettern to have the wing level and both double fronts pulled down level and then let up to get a more shallow entry angle to swoop in the last 100-200 feet of the dive. That being said if you are willing to travel a lot of places end up short of staff and will hire just about anyone who can toss a drogue. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

You should also do a regular paragliding course first, most skills you've practiced for 100 jumps are totally different from speedflying. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

2500 Tandems - 4 chops #1 Multiple line twists with fat passenger #2 Lineover #3 Streamer #4 Lineover with tension knots A few things I learned are that large passengers impair your ability to kick out of linetwists. It may have been possible to clear that one by releasing and pulling the correct steering toggle but there were a lot of twists and I didn't know that trick at the time. #3 was also peculiar becuase the canopy was wet from the dew on the grass on the second jump of the morning and although it came out of the bag it stayed in 'sausage' form and began to twist. Wish I could post the shots as I fell past the video guy. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

Ya the Bobcat it naturally trimmed pretty far forward so a lot of brake is ok. You're not the first to say it looks funny ;) Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

Did some soaring at the beach this week. Canopy is Gin Bobcat 16.5m, wind is 20-30mph. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz22vTh0K6A Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

Gin's speedfly canopies are way better for this stuff. GLX glide ratio is crap in comparison. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

How is speedriding any different from...
AdD replied to jrjny's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Here are some more appropriate speedflying canopies to be talking about using in this sport: Gin - Nano - Bobcat - Yak Ozone - Bullet - XT 16 I would also recommend upgrading your harness to one with an airbag and back protection. SPEEDFLYING WITH PROPER GEAR AND INSTRUCTION = high probability of injury SPEEDFLYING WITH PROPER GEAR AND INSTRUCTION = near certainty Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream -

This Petra canopy reminds me of the Ozone Bullet planform, but crossbraced. Will the next gen hp canopies become more like speedfly wings I wonder? Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

Landing crosswind and using an assymetrical flare to turn into the wind once levelled off with feet at ground level is another good drill. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

You need to learn a really good flat turn to jump that canopy safely. The stiletto actually makes really nice flat turns, there is no reason to toggle it into the ground to avoid an obstacle. Feeling comfortable and in tune with your canopy is important, if this is the canopy for you then go for it but be sure to drill, drill and drill some more on life saving manouevers. Doing great harness fitting is a good first step. On the sigma harness the main lift webs do not work like on your sport rig (ie sitting on the side of torso). They should be straight when student is suspended in sitting position. (Move the leg strap pads forward until their tips can touch) However, the harness fitting method above only applies to people with normal body shape. Pear shaped persons should be fitted with the leg strap/MLW joint further back toward the side of the body to reduce chance of harness ejection. This puts students into more of a standing position under canopy and they have more difficult lifting legs. I suggest briefing these people on how to reach underneath their leg and move legstrap toward the knee with both hands. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
