  3. I agree with Peter 100%. Don't fly the student ! Of course I am pretty tall, I don't know how short Tm's deal with tall passengers. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  4. You might as well shoot yourself in the foot before you start the whole process. I just went through getting my NZPIA tandem rating, you learn the real definition of red tape. Email NZPIA about it, but for a tandem rating you need: 1000 jumps CAA Class 2 Medical ($200 and FAA medical doesn't count) Fit and Proper Person form Manufacturer's rating Jumpmaster currency check High Altitude Exam Chief Safety Officer written approval for all of the above I think that's it, it took me 3-4 weeks before I could start working here. Good luck and don't come to NZSkydive! Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  5. Cool, I had heard good things about precision reserves before, have also used one on a tandem subterminal. I liked it's flight characteristics and the opening was sweet. Those are pretty impressive parameters though. I would be particularly curious about Strong's Master test drop results. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  6. Sure it dives nicely, but remember the steeper you come in the more kinetic energy you will need to sacrifice to plane out. How much input are you using to plane out? Risers or toggles? Maybe a shallower entry to the planeout phase would allow you to get more distance. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  7. What was the result of that droptest? Were the canopy or lines damaged? I would love to see some reserve droptest data for various manufacturers posted online. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  8. Hey pal, I would like to see the issue of the five second delay addressed somehow. Seems like there is a lot of risk in those first couple freefalls. Go back to FL and get your AFF rating and make Adam pay for it! Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  9. I gotta disagree with you there AggieDave, I feel a lot better using the Y mod harness with pear-shaped ppl. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

  11. I've cut away 1 icarus 360 due to line twists and a really wide passenger. I've been told that pulling the right toggle will sometimes work if you don't have too many. I just kick, will try twisting the risers too next time. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  12. Here's some advice I got from Voss, Norway: "It is some things that is important. 1.A fast canopie (velo-vx) 2.Do not start to far baxk into the mountain.jump out in the front of it and fly into it and along the edge and then start flying down. 3.keep distance in the beginning and always av a second option.dont put yourself into a corner. 4.do not load up your canopie.u have to have extra lif if u need it." Looking forward to putting it into practice. Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream

  14. I think this is all a lot of BS. I'm a Canadian and I thought that the sky was falling in from reading some comments online until I read the NPA. None of the issues of regulation will seriously affect skydiving in Canada. If I'm wrong please correct me. http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/RegServ/Affairs/carac/NPAs/GOFR/Archives/jun00/2000209.htm Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
  15. Hi all, just curious for some input on planning routes for flying down mountains under canopy. The NZ dropzone I'm at has a lot of tempting mountains and I am looking closely at two routes to be flown after hop and pop. Both have fields to land in at the base but while one is 1000' and very steep the other is 5000 and appears to be 1:1 in slope on average, quite steep for awhile but the last 1000 ft has some horizontal distance to cover to the landing area. I am thinking we will fly the shorter route first and then attempt the higher mountain. I'm flying a velocity at about 2:1. What I'm interested in is an estimate of my glide ratio in full flight and on spread rear risers but I don't have the instruments to measure. Input from experienced pilots would be appreciated. 21. First, I don't like being out before fun jumpers as a tandem instructor, the canopy simply takes too long to descend... it's stupid not to exit in the order of opening altitudes when there is such a big difference ie 5500 vs 3500ish... Second I ride up with my passenger partially hooked up for the exact reason you bring up, and i think I'd skip the briefing if the plane was on fire or something... 23. I read unkown ideal a few years back, just finished Atlas Shrugged this summer. The first 300 pages of the latter sure are tough to stay awake for but on the whole it is really interested material. Too bad modern politics has proved her thesis to be correct. 25. I just wanted to add something to this thread. I am a tandem instructor, vidiot, static line JM and coach. I am making a living doing what I love right now, travelling and generally having a good time. The money is better than what I made at an entry level sales job. If you are single and clear of debt, you can do ok once you have a tandem rating and video capabilities. I won't do this forever, but damn it's fun at the moment.
