So Glenn Beck is not trustworthy? Of course he's trustworthy! Particularly about the stuff he's right about!! But not about the stuff he's wrong about. He's completely untrustworthy about that. Completely coincidentally the things he's right about line up exactly with Rons beliefs.

Like I said a while ago - he's doing great things for the employment rate of at least one segment of the economy!

You must be talking about this: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40552130 It's the same philosophy as rushmc's take on the election hacking - If it didn't change the result then it's completely not a problem.

How about 'Passive Aggressive Central'?

Somewhere between 1 and 2. The exact footage doesn't matter too much.

I agree about the rest but you're wrong about tunnel time.

What time frame are we talking about? Pick a date.

I think the point would be that there is enough experimental evidence from the daily use of rigs to show that dirt or wear isn't instantly and catastrophically going to affect the strength of a harness. Also the wear is mechanical rather than chemical... The wear is generally gradual and a rigger who sees a lot of harnesses can gauge it against the thousands of others he's seen and make a judgement. Not so with paint. The only answer a rigger can give about whether the paint is actually destroying the strength of the material is 'I don't know', which to me instantly means they would err on the side of caution. The same goes for the manufacturers... unless they've done specific testing of specific paints and harness materials I don't believe any of them would take the chance of saying 'we're not sure, but yeah, go for it. Why not?' I'd also mention that you'd probably look like an asshole if you walked around a DZ with a painted rig. Even more of a reason not to do it!

Speedflyer looking for next canopy
yoink replied to skiNEwhere's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Pobrause has it right on - the characteristics that we look for in a speed wing aren't ones that are popular in skydiving. Very short recovery arcs, short toggle input, very responsive to harness input, a high degree of roll in turns and collapse recovery are all characteristics of most speed wings. Most of those are either the opposite to what we look for in a skydiving wing, or are peripheral to other considerations. Highly elliptical canopies or the new generation of Schumann planform wings tend to have some of those characteristics but then have the drawbacks of controlling them throughout deployment or being extremely competition specific and unsuitable for intermediate jumpers. -
In that particular moment... I think that's the bit that worries me the most. If whipping his dick out on stage would get him instantaneous massive applause he'd do it and then deal with the consequences later.

It comes down to perception, doesn't it? Trump (and his supporters) see lashing back as being strong and in charge - a form of leadership that recent presidents have lacked. Others see it as juvenile. IMO the president absolutely should not have to be a free punching bag for anyone who wants to take a jibe. I'm happy with a bit of fire in a president rather than simply turning the other cheek constantly. As usual however, Trump takes it far too far for me. He crosses the line over firm retort and goes straight to 12 year old belittling.

Can we have a prohibition on posts that contain nothing but a link, please? At least tell us what the link is about in your own words. It shows that you've actually read it.

It's almost Russian-esque. After all, Communism is great if you're at the top.

I'm not an instructor so take this for what it's worth. It's tough to make out too much from that video, but the height of the flare, the speed, it all looks good for a first time student. The landing doesn't look abnormally hard. As a bigger guy you might just have gotten unlucky with exactly how you put your feet down. I managed to break my ankle in 3 places playing badminton of all things, so I know it doesn't take a lot of pressure. If you're just off square with 270lbs behind it's going to hurt. What I don't see on that video is any sort of PLF. You seem to land and get hurt, then go straight to your knees and hands. A PLF has a rotation component that has you rolling from touchdown to the side and through your hips. It's not elegant, but it is fantastic. Look at free-runners. The huge jumps those guys do off buildings that are absorbed by a tuck and roll at the end - that's basically a REALLY good PLF. Heal fast, but don't let it put you offf if you enjoyed the experience. There are some challenges being a bigger jumper but they're not insurmountable.

I can't get to that to make sense in my head. Why would he ever have been taught that? It's remotely possible that as an inexperienced jumper the plan was for him to pull in place higher than the rest of the team while they tracked away and he just stuck with the plan when he lost sight of them - 4,500? Pull! If so, that's where BillVon's 'go low' plan comes into effect.

To which Trump and Ryan will be telling their party - 'If this fails it will be YOUR fault and the democrats will win. VOTE FOR IT. this isn't a suggestion.'

Oh god no. Valentina was picked to be the first woman in space because she was a skydiver[/I]. Not kidding. You can look it up. I'm not denying that skydivers generally have some good qualities for stressful situations. Plus Valentina is just awesome. Just that if you lock a bunch of them together for a long time then they're probably more likely to explode than a typical cross section of people from different groups. We're typically super Type-A personalities. Lots of chiefs, no indians.

trump's Bro Putin, Vows to Shoot Down US Aircraft

Chuck's already summed it up - When everybody starts moving and making stuff up it tends to make things worse, not better. Consider this scenario - your guy goes low and you need to (in your words) 'get the fuck away from him!' So you turn and track... but he's lost sight of the formation and decides to track early, coincidentally in the same direction as you. You're now focused on getting away from this guy who is still beneath you and you now have no idea where your teammates are, what they're doing or where you are in relation to the rest of the groups on jumprun. It's a bad idea, as is trying to get everyone to drop down to him. If you go low, stay to one side and keep an eye on the formation as long as possible. Try to get back up to them. Track at the proper altitude. Wave off and deploy. Everyone else just follows the plan and watches for the low man if at all possible.

What would you have the group do other than keep an eye on the low man?
