  1. Definately use the Sabre1 150 over the Saphire2 139, at least for your first jumps. Small problems with your body position can become amplified with a wingsuit on and you need something that's going to be as forgiving as possible. I started on a Spectre 135 (loaded at about 1.3) which was great. I'm now on a Sabre2 120 (1.5) which is ok but noticeably more twitchy on opening. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. The experience of a friend of mine, who was hurt quite badly jumping in Spain, has led to me take out insurance when jumping outside of the UK. My work does provide travel insurance but the policy excludes any 'interesting' activities. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. No. Infact I've been twice since the time I went without any insurance and both times I took out an Axa policy. You and I know someone that was badly hurt and hospitalised from an out landing at Empuria, his story was enough to convince me that insurance is a good thing - even when you're covered by an E111. Actually Spannish hospitals are supposed to be very good but yes, I would rather be at home. What's the story behind that? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. I have yellow on mine and it flies great - openings can be a bit sketchy though. It might be worth asking that person at your dz what their yellow canopy is like.
  5. I've jumped in Spain without any insurance but I'd be very wary of going to the States for the reasons you mentioned - medical bills can, I imagine, get very big very quick. Do you think there's a danger of insurance becoming more difficult to come by? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. Have you tried contacting someone at Nottingham's skydiving club? I was a member whilst there and got a few subsidised tickets so they managed it somehow. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    FJC - my experience

What exactly about your canopy control sucked? What did you have to do in the BASE environment that you weren't well practiced in? I've read the CR canopy drills document and have been practicing flat turns, riser turns, stalls etc. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  8. I think they must have cleaned the list up a bit for broadcast, surely there were some "join the mile high club" type votes in there? I managed a pathetic 2 out of 50 but in my defence once you start #6 there's not alot of time for any of the others! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Skyvan exits

Thanks dude, I can't upload to skydivingmovies for some (firewall?) reason. But it's so much nicer with the finger in.

    Skyvan exits

We had a Skyvan at Langar for the last couple of weekends and got some really nice exits from it including one at 130 kts. What a blast!

Awesome! Thanks dude, I've just taken one out as well. The guy I spoke to said "Isn't that jumping off clifs? You're mad!". My one concern is that the policy is underwritten by our old friends at Axa but I got him to confirm that BASE will be explicitly listed on my policy document so it should be ok. Ninja 2?

Reported collapses. I don't know whether the grounding was ever lifted. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Ninja 2?

Was told over the weekend by a friend that he was expecting a (Parachutes de France) Ninja 2 sometime soon. You may remember that the original Ninja was grounded, does anyone know anything about the new one? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  14. I was planning on going so I hope it is. Contact Andy Ford (Ford1fly AT aol DOT com), he's doing the organising. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I'm happy to ask, the person I've been emailing has been really helpful so I don't think they'll mind. What's the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony? I have no idea. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I'm getting serious policy document fatigue! There's no explicit mention of BASE, just "parachute jumping" as part of their "category 4 hazardous sports and leisure activities". The bit which would worry me is this exclusion: Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

This looks really good, I will email them as well and explicitly ask about BASE. Thanks Mark. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  21. That was you? I thought you must've broken something for sure, from where I was standing you were coming down pretty quick. IMHO it's pretty lax of Langar to still have kit with round reserves, it was windy at the time and you could have landed anywhere - into a building, power lines, the road, the factories... Glad you're alright dude, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I thought I'd found one today. Leading Edge Travel Insurance lists BASE jumping (along with bob sleighing, demolition derby, ice hockey, ski acrobatics, ski jumping, ski racing, toboganning) as a 'category 4' activity, which attracts a pretty heft premium but at least (I thought) I could get some insurance. Suprise, suprise, when I emailed them for confirmation and a quote I got: The search continues. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Just for absolute clarity: I don't have a current policy with Axa, the reason I phoned them is that I'm trying to take a BASE friendly one out. I'd be really interested to hear from any legal bods on this. My suspicion is that your policy is defined by the policy document that they physically send to you and that you have a grace period in which you can cancel the policy if you're not happy. When I took out a single trip policy in August BASE was included on the website but excluded in the policy document they sent me - because I bought the policy for a skydiving holiday I didn't really pay much attention to the discrepancy.
