  1. I noticed the other day that Rigs & Things has Hornets listed on their 'Clearance Items' page. It might be worth dropping Roy an email to see whether they're still available. Edited to add: if you actually follow the link it says "Only one 150 Hornet left!!!". Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. I would have thought that measuring line stretch to full inflation was better since that's the stage which is going to vary by canopy and packing method. My Spectres never took anything like 1000 ft to open - more like half that. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. Ok! Has he definately set the date/time on the camera? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. I don't remember ever seeing anyone jump anything other than Sony cameras. I have a PC9 which has been great but, IMHO, the better/more expensive models give noticealby better images. I don't think you'll find many peple who'll recommend anything other than Sony. Like you said, the features you'll actually use regularly are dv-in, dv-out and the lanc port (for the CamEye). I very rarely use any of the bells and whistles on my PC9 so don't be too swayed by any of the extras unless you know they're going to come in useful. People seem to be wary of the new MicroMV format and the smaller lenses that those cameras use. A search for "MicroMV" turns up a few previous discussions. If you're looking to side mount the camera you'll be looking at the upright PC series, if you're looking to top mount it then you might favour the sausage shaped ones (TRV series?). The CamEye's great, well worth it. I'm no expert but I am bored at work. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  5. You don't need dv-in or the use of a CamEye to edit using Pinnacle, or any other editing package. As long as it has dv-out you can export footage to your computer. If you want to put footage back on to the camera then you'll need dv-in. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. I don't know how iMovie does its scene detection but is it possible that your friend imported the footage (ie firewired it from another camera) and that overwrote the date/time info that would otherwise show scene changes? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. I know of at least one awesome video that has a few tracking clips in it. It's called Outpatients: Take 2 and it's by some guy called.....Gus
  8. I second that, it's a beautiful book. I've asked for it (and Eyes in the Sky) for Christmas. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  9. There's a thread here where CobaltDan says Atair built and tested one for fun but there aren't any pictures . Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  10. If your husband literally doesn't notice any difference then why downsize? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  11. I'd love to see it done! As usual I don't really know what I'm talking about but I think the point of stacking wings on top of each other in aeroplane design is to get more lift from less wingspan - and less wingspan means less stress on the structure of the aircraft. So I'm not sure the logic would really apply to canopies but it sure would be an interesting experiment! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    First canopy

I can give you my opinion as a newbie (2 skydives and 4 slider down jumps on my 265 MDV @ ~0.65). I was on the borderline between a 245 and a 265, went for the 265 but was a bit worried that it would be too big. But it's great! I was suprised how much forward speed it has in full drive - I'm glad I didn't get the 245. Feels very solid in deep brakes, recovery from a stall is easy and predictable. The power of the flare also suprised me (even from deep brake approaches), I've stood up all my landings easily. I had a look at a sample of the MDVs and was very impressed - clever stuff. My frame of reference for big F111 canopies is limited to ragged out student Mantas and Skreamer's Parafoil 252 (thanks dude ) so I don't really have anything to compare it to but so far I'm very happy with my choice. 13. For any canopy design and size the manufacturers must know how much fabric they need, how much stitching is required and the total length of line used. Isn't this enough to calculate the volume of material used to manufacture the canopy? It wouldn't give you the typical volume of a packed canopy (you'd never squeeze all the air out) but would it give you an accurate means of comparing the volume of 2 canopies? 14. Hi Joris, Thanks for the info. Can I get a demo directly from you? The smallest DZ Sports has is the 119 I had this weekend. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  15. I can't find it now but thought Yuri posted about getting a ratio of 2.4:1 and that being pretty awesome. It's difficult to measure with GPS unless you can also measure what the wind is doing. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  16. Why would anyone bust your balls? Yes pursue it. It may take a biit longer to get there but it's definately, definately, worth it
  17. I might do that. Not sure how their demo program works in Europe, the 119 came from a UK dealer. Absolutely. That's what I'm trying to figure out. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  18. Only 3 (no jumping yesterday ) but opened high on all of them so I got plenty of time under canopy. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  19. I had a demo Crossfire2 119 this weekend. I liked it, enough to think about buying one. Nice openings, fast toggles turns, felt solid in deep brakes. I was expecting it to dive alot more on the front risers so I kept setting up too high though . I wouldn't buy a 119 because it felt 'big' and (apart from the toggle turns) it didn't feel faster than my Sabre2 120 which leads me to my question: I loaded that 119 at 1.5, a 109 would be at 1.65 and a 99 would be at 1.8. Has anyone flown a range of sizes? Am I being stupid considering a 99? I wouldn't expect the 109 to be all that different, that's all. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  20. There are about a zillion threads on here explaining the difference between airspeed and groundspeed. You're calculating groundspeed but the drag your p/c will produce is proportional to your airspeed. I'm suprised that your reserve didn't get pulled out or fall out but I can't decide whether it should have. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Boots

Be aware that the quick lace hooks that most boots have on them can be potential snag points for your lines. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  22. I don't think so but an email to sales AT dzsports DOT com will find out for sure. LOL!
  23. , it's not so hard. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  24. Hi Graeme, I'm in a similar position to you: last 200 jumps on a Sabre2 @ 1.5. DZ Sports, at Hinton, have a demo 119 (that I'll have this weekend
  25. 70 or 80 in just over a year. Probably 230 jumps total in that year. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
