  1. Ok, I understood 'control range' to mean the physical distance you can move the toggles but you mean the range of control that you have. So I agree with you! Unless the stall point was 2 inches past your reach. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. Dave can you explain this further, how does it not give you a longer control range? If you change a set of 20" risers for a set of 22" aren't you now able to pull the brake lines down 2" more than you were before? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. I'm totally with you on this one. I'm 61 days from getting my hands on my spanking new Wings/PDR/Crossfire2 and you know I'll be posting pics! 60.999 days now. Gus ps 60.998
  4. What was the change you made, 20" to 22"? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  5. Hey Manuel, I'm sure I won't be the only person to tell you this but 1.5 on a Nitro at 60 jumps is very aggressive. It's the kind of stat the we read in the Incidents forum. Please be careful, talk to your old instructors and experienced canopy pilots at your home dz. If you can, schedule a canopy control course whilst you're out in FL. In answer to your question: most people in your situation buy modestly loaded canopies in the Sabre/Spectre class. I had a Spectre 150 @ 1.2 and it was more than enough to keep me amused for 200-odd jumps. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. To contain the mess? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. Awesome video Ian, I really enjoyed it
  8. I think that the empasis in this thread is back to front. Rather than discouraging people from sharing their opinions, experiences and giving advice we should be encouraging the people that are seeking that advice to realise that its quality can depend on who's giving it. Take everything in context. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  9. Do you have some way of including the existing fatalities data in to the new database? Nice idea with the reporting articles. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  10. Find the stall point in flight and compare it to where your brakes are set, that should tell you something shouldn't it? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  11. Dammit, where's that picture of me in my suit when I need it? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  12. Hey nice rig! I'm with Zeemax on this one, my new rig's due in March and you know it'll be coming to bed with me.
  13. Nice one Phree, thanks. Those hybrids looked really good.

    How was 2003 for you?

My other (real world) life hasn't been so good. It started badly when I broke up from a great relationship with my girlfriend and it never really got any better. I have a good job but the more fun I have in my free time the more depressed I am sat at my desk. Luckily my jumping this year has been great, had an awesome summer, lots of jumping, lots of good jumps, good friends, a couple of trips abroad and I managed to achieve some of the goals I've had since I started skydiving. I hope 2004 is just as good.
  15. Atom's have had this feature for a while but yes, it's a nice idea. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  16. Come on grandad, it's not all that bad is it? As a relative newbie in this sport I have a 300 mile round trip to my dz. I've spent many days sat around due to bad weather or lack of people and I might bitch a bit but generally I'm just happy to be there. I repeated an AFF level and had no complaints. I don't jump a tiny eliptical. I learnt to pack during AFF. I bought my first rig despite the fact that it was purple. And I don't think that any of that makes me unusual. I'm sure you do already but instructors in general are in a better position than most to actually do something about these things that you're talking about. Help people that are struggling to pack. Talk to people about canopy control. Share that knowledge! Gus (24) OutpatientsOnline.com
  17. Yes......strange that. I guess that's just the power of the written word . I'll try to update it over the weekend with #5. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  18. Maybe one day when I've done some jumps in daylight . Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  19. I asked the London IMAX months and months ago (when it came out in the States) and they said they had no plans to show it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Stiffened risers

I figured it would come down to style vs safety . I haven't, no. Can you explain? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Stiffened risers

I'd always thought that risers stiffened where the top of the brake toggle goes in to its elastic keeper would be a good idea - to make it more difficult for the riser to flex and pop the toggle. Then I noticed recently that my Gargoyle's risers have exactly this and maybe other BASE risers do too. Is it overkill for skydiving risers or is there another reason that it's not done? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  22. What are you using to view them? Is anyone else having this problem? The first thing I'd recommend doing is getting the latest version of Windows Media Player. I could always put some divx versions up if people really wanted them. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  23. Have you been on here? Some of the docs are a bit old but still worth reading. Skysurfing isn't all that popular at the moment which would explain why there isn't all that much info. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  24. Direct link to video here. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  25. I've just about finished my new website, OutpatientsOnline.com. There are some videos (including hi res versions of my vids that are on skydivingmovies.com), a couple of nice photos and a bit about my recent adventures in BASE. Have a look and tell me what you think. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
