  1. There a prospectus for Christchurch Parachute School's diploma in commerical skydiving here (pdf ~1mb). Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. Me too, ordered at the start of December. Keep up posted. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. If this is the case do you have any legal recourse? Have you considered getting some professional legal advice? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. If you're jumping at Langar the place is crawling with freeflyers of all levels to swap tips and techniques with - and Steve Newman (Bullet Freefly school) loves to have people ask him for advice so why not indulge him
  5. Either the one where Bart shakes up the can of beer or the one with the 'sleeps with the fishes' gag. Genius. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. I pack mine exactly the same as for any other jump and the openings are no better or no worse than normal. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. Hey Darren, You could argue for hours about whether a mechanical alti is more reliable than an electronic one but I've come to rely on my audibles and rarely look at my wrist alti so having 2 seems to make sense. Since the alarms go off at the same time it's not confusing. I have them over the same ear but I suppose you could have one over each. Have you looked at the 2K Composites helmets? I have an FFX which has been great. Before that I jumped a Gath and it's easy enough to attach an audible. I found it difficult to get (and keep) my feet down at first. If you have the same problem (flying on your back, trying to force your feet down) remember it's much easier to push down when your feet are up against your arse rather than having your legs extended and flailing in the breeze. When you're learning it's helpful to have a plan for each jump, to have specific things that you want to try or practice. Unless you don't mind just goofing about and laughing at how unstable you are (which is what I did!). Have a great holiday.
  8. I'm on my 3rd canopy (waiting for my 4th). My first 2 were used. My 3rd was new partly because there weren't any used ones around (Sabre2 120) and partly because I thought I'd keep it for longer than I have. My 4th is new for the same reasons really but I am going to keep this one for longer than a year! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  9. I've only done a few atmonauti jumps but had a fallrate in the 90s - faster than BM but slower than regular flat (as far as I can remember!). Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Ninja 2?

For anyone that's interested there's a video on the pdf website with some Ninja 2s (here ~5mb). There should be one at our dz soon so it'll be interesting to see it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  11. ...would you jump there less? Over the last couple of hundred jumps I've got hooked on canopy flight and landings - on a nil wind day I'd happily do nothing but hop 'n pops.
  12. Skydivingmovies.com seems to be down at the moment but I'm sure that the episode you're talking about is on there. I can't take any credit for the research I'm afraid, I just remembered that thread from a while back. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  13. Bill, It's not exactly a scientific study but have you seen this thread? Get well soon
  14. With the brakes stowed it's relatively easy to stall a canopy with the rear risers. I wonder whether your turn to avoid the other canopy momentarily stalled one side of your Impulse? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  15. New kit is always worth the wait - just imagine holding in your arms, you won't be able to stop smiling.
  16. Anyone know whether Skreamer pulled his thumb out and managed to get some BM done? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Insurance

That suprises me. Do you know of any cases where the opposite has happened, ie insurance companies haven't paid out because the jump was illegal? Are these 3 cases you've heard the exceptions? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Insurance

Do you think that an insurance company would happily pay your medical expenses following a (not explicitly illegal) BASE jump where access to the object involved (illegal) trespass? I always assumed that it was a given that they'd use the trespass to avoid paying out. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Insurance

Gaz, check out this thread, I recently went to the US for an FJC and was looking for insurance. In the end I got it through Marks and Spencer but I've since been told that they will no longer explicitly cover BASE. My policy was pretty useless anyway since one of the exlusions means they won't pay if you were doing something illegal at the time. If your FJC is at a legal site it might make things easier. 20. It's not that we don't talk to each other! Imagine the following situation: housemate starts downloading mega porn, grabs all the bandwidth, poor old Gus tries to fire up dz.com, doesn't work. Gus throws an eppy, housemate cancels download and is denied his mega porn. Or: housemate starts downloading mega porn, grabs all the bandwidth, poor old Gus tries to fire up dz.com, clever bit of software recognises that housemate has all the bandwidth, temporarily restricts him to 45k/s, gives Gus 45 k/s to get dz.com then gives housemate all the bandwidth back. Everyone's happy
  21. Helmets are definately not pointless! I've been kicked in the head a few times, had at least one high speed collision and a botched night jump landing where my trusty Pro-Tec probably saved me from a serious injury. They're mandatory here in the UK too. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  22. There must be a theoretical limit since we can't accelerate faster than 10 m/s/s (ie gravity). Anyone care to work it out? Edited to add: ok I had a stab at this but I've been drinking so...... SpeedSkydiving.net says that records are the participants average speed over 1000m, from 2700 to 1700. It doesn't specify an exit altitude so I've assumed 4000m. Accelerating at 9.8 m/s/s from 4000m to 2700m gives you an entry speed of 160 m/s, if you continue to accelerate down to 1700m your exit speed would be 212 m/s. Your average speed over that 1000m would therefore be 186 m/s which is 416 mph or 670 kph. Good luck flaring out in time to deploy! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  23. He's using DC++ constantly which is what's sucking the bandwidth. The gateway isn't clever enough to share the bandwidth so maybe routing all the traffic through an actual pc is the way to go. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  24. The thought had crossed my mind......never mess with a man and his dz.com access. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  25. In my house we have 3 people sharing our cable connection via a gateway/firewall box that plugs in to the cable modem. But one of my housemates hogs the bandwidth by constantly downloading mega-porn, to the point where dz.com is almost unuseable . Does anyone know of any software which we could use to intelligently share the bandwidth, ie give him 100% if he's the only one online but ensure that anyone else also gets a look in when they need access? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
