  1. All I know is that he broke his femur, I haven't heard any news since he was airlifted out. Get well soon Ross, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. Bloody hell, haven't we got enough stupid bits of paper and stickers in logbooks already? There's a better solution: If you're on a jump that you're not comfortable with (group getting bigger and bigger, too many inexperienced people etc) then take yourself off. If you think there's someone in a group that shouldn't be then speak to them. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. I don't know what format you crazy Auzzies use but do a search on here or on Google for PAL and NTSC, these are the two main formats. It's been discussed on here plenty of times. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. Are you worried about the closing loop (if it's on the bottom of the container) rubbing against the lines? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  5. If he'd borrowed a rig from a friend then I'd say it's his responsibility but if he's paid to hire a rig then I'd say it's the owner's. If you're renting out equipment then surely it's an accepted risk that stuff is going to get damaged or lost every once in a while and you'd factor that in to the rental price. If you crashed a hire car you wouldn't expect to pay for a replacement would you? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. Firewire cables can have one of two plugs on the end: a small 4 pin or a larger 6 pin. I think the only difference (other than the size) is that the 6 pin can carry power. Anway, the sockets on your new firewire card will most likely be for the larger 6 pin plugs but your camera will need the 4 pin. So you need a cable with a 6 pin on one end and a 4 pin on the other - that's if you want to trasfer between the camera and the computer. If you want to transfer between two cameras you'll need a cable with a 4 pin on both ends. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. Last night I had my first malfunction dream in a couple of years, probably since I started AFF. We had quite an 'eventful' (stressfull) weekend with 2 of my friends coming very close to killing each other, another breaking his femur on landing and me jumping my new rig - so I guess that's where it came from. Anyway in this dream I was on a 3 or 4 way freefly jump, broke off as normal except I tracked for ages and ages, likes I had my Birdman suit on. Threw out the pilot chute but it came out all knotted up and trailing behind me. Somehow I caught it again in my right hand, had a little look at it, managed to unknot it (still in freefall remember!) and threw it again. Got a nice slow opening but the canopy came out like a ball of crap, looked like a step-through and a line over at the same time. I tried turning it and flaring it but at 1000 feet I decided I couldn't land it so chopped it. Pulled reserve but the cables were really long and I had to keep pulling and pulling to clear them, eventually got them out.....and nothing happened! Watched the ground coming up and at the last minute stood up, landed on my feet, fell forwards on to my knees and got up uninjured. My main memory of the dream was how pissed off I was at the bandit who packed my reserve! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  8. I've heard of people recommending F-111 pilot chutes because of their better stability but not for any structural reason. ZP is ripstop too isn't it? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Relativity

Staying with anyone on their first jumps can be hard work, regardless of which suits you're flying. Once she's got the hang of it though you can start demanding that she puts some effort in to relativity too (!) and you'll be sorted. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  10. Same here, averages in the upper 40s on a 'good' maxed out solo on my GTI. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  11. Ankie at Sunrise got back to me straight away to say that yes, they'd somehow forgotten to do the Birdman mods. She's sending me a new dbag/bridle/pc and I can get my rigger to unstitch the corners. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  12. God bless the Guardian! Was it them who carried just about the only well written story on Stephen Hilder? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    BASE alone...?

I haven't but the idea quite appeals to me, like solo freeclimbing (I'm not that crazy though). Tempted Joris? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  14. Thanks Matt, I'll try that tonight. I will but I have them working on something more important at the moment. Yes! But how to store excess brake line is not explicitly mentioned in the manual I have. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  15. Just got my new Wings yesterday but couldn't immediately see how to store the excess brake line. For the moment I've put a bungee on the guide ring but I was expecting a bit of tape/elastic on each riser to stow the excess. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  16. It's a shame I'm in a different continent and that neither Sunrise or my dealer noticed before sending it to me . Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  17. I just picked up my new Wings today and I'm not sure whether they've put the bm mods on. I haven't seen an unpacked Wings with dynamic/open corners up close before but to me it doesn't look like they have . Sanity check please! The bridle is about 7 foot pin to pc. Is that 'extended'? 18. I've been playing with Ulead's DVD Workshop recently. You can't do anything complex (like more than one soundtrack or subtitles) but it's easy enough to use and the end results can look pretty good. You can download a free trial from the website. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  19. For anyone that doubted it I can confirm that you do indeed look very silly repeatedly belly flopping in to a pool . Credit to the pool attendant though, who came over and said "Are you practicing to jump out of a plane?". Not bad for a whuffo. Without a doubt the highlight of the evening was when my mentor told the pool attendant that this was special training for 'special' people. LOL! It was definately worthwhile, getting used to the feeling of pushing off too early, too late and that nice slap round the balls when you get it just right. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  20. That's enormously helpful, thanks! I assume you're talking about using the 10m board for full "PWOP" effect? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    pilot chute

Have you seen a collapsible pilot chute after a jump, ie when it's collapsed? Pick one up and drag it through the air to see how it behaves - it won't inflate. Look at where the apex of the pilot chute is (where the hackey is attached) and you'll see why. Deploying a collapsed pilot chute will, at best, give you a pilot chute in tow. 22. I'm off to the pool tonight to practice my exits (which haven't been all that great recently ). Any advice on what I should be doing or looking for? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    stows

Why double stow with long bands when you could single stow with short ones? Keep it simple. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
