    FF1 Questions

There's a good article from the BPA mag on head up flying with some nice pictures to describe forwards/backwards movement. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. I thought I'd drag this post up and add my experience from the weekend. My S3 arrived in the week and Saturday was beautiful weather so up I went. I have about 80 or 90 previous jumps on my old GTi. The S3 is hard work! I did two jumps and was pretty ragged at the end of the second. But....I came down with a 41 mph average
  3. For anyone that hasn't seen Dexterbase's article: BASE jumping injuries and treatment in the field Ian I bought a little 1st aid kit to keep in the car the weekend we went to PP, just bandages really to cover wounds and stem bleeding. But you're right to think about having a more serious collection of kit - provided you (by which I mean we) know how to use it properly. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. That's the one I'm thinking of but the reserve container looks closed - as far as I can remember. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  5. Is it an advert for the PDR? Because there's something weird going on in that. Tertiary rig? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. Come on now, you know which forum this is going to get moved to . Anyway, I've just moved to Cheltenham so I'm pretty close and would be up for a vist some time. Let us know what it's like. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. I was taught to lightly hold the s-folds in the left hand and to firmly hold the pc, folded in half, in the right hand. I haven't actually tried it yet but the person in question told me they'd developed/converted to this method after having their forearm broken when it was pulled down on to railing using a different method. I can see the logic in the method you're suggesting though. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  8. This question gets asked quite alot. It could be that as you pull on the front riser(s) you're also pulling down on the tail at the same time and sort of 'hobbling' the canopy. If that's the case your brake lines may need a bit more slack than they have at the moment. On your next jump try watching the tail as you pull on the front riser(s) and see what's happening. 10. The Lost Boys are at Langar most of the time, I saw them on Sunday and they were telling me about your nice tracking routine. Well done on the gold

Hey big fella, I thought the same thing when I read Zennie's post, what does being a 'purist' have to do with not doing static lines? Perhaps someone can chime in and comment on whether or not the BASE pioneers static lined stuff but I always assumed they did..... Zennie, didn't everyone's favourite World's Best BASE Jumper (TM) once say something similar? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  13. I don't think time under the 189 is wasted at all - at least you're learning to deal with the increase in speed (over the 240) which you'll have to deal with again when you jump the 170. Also, the experience you gain under the 189 does not suddenly become void when you jump something else - the more you fly that canopy the better you'll become and the better you are at flying it the easier you'll find it to fly other canopies. When you're coming in to land are your arms definately all the way up? It's quite common to see people unknowingly fly their canopies in a little brakes and doing so will reduce the effectiveness of the flare. Can you get someone to video a couple of your landings? 14. Wow I'm a winner! Since I'm in the UK and already have a stashbag does anyone else want it? If you promise to donate a couple of dollars to Mark's charity then I'll tell Vertigo that it's all yours. You'd have to cover shipping as was the original deal. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  15. After more than 6000 jumps and getting on for 40 years in the sport, Langar legend Dean Fisher did his first BirdMan jump last weekend. Our very own Craig Poxon briefed him up but couldn't jump with him so I did the honours. He was awesome! Super cool (not suprising when you hear some of what else he's done), very focussed, he even flew the correct pattern which is pretty unusual for a first timer! Most importantly - he absolutely loved it
  16. Where did you have the ProTrack? In your helmet? Its position can greatly effect the 'quality' of its readings. Search around a bit in this forum, it's been discussed a handful of times before. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  17. According to this it was a "a four-engine Ilyushin 76". Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  18. I've been a bit slack with logging my jumps recently, but for anyone that's interested I've updated my BASE diary. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  19. Tom you have to go in and check this out. As as service to the worldwide BASE community! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  20. PD has a flight characteristics document for the PDR here. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  21. Come on Poxon, don't let me down! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  22. Looks interesting, the wings aren't that much bigger than an S3. Make sure you let us know how it flies, or even better try and cadge a demo! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  23. Shock news: Team Phats and Small bin the UK nationals..... So we came up with a routine, did a handful of practice jumps and what we realised was that neither of us was enjoying it . For the first time in a long time I was coming down from jumps pissed off because I had bodged stuff up. That's not why I got in to freeflying and it's exactly why I knocked RW on the head. So instead we did some traditional 'dicking about' jumps, followed out some TM friends, came down laughing and smiling and generally had a blast. I know this doesn't apply to everyone but be careful where 'serious' training can lead you and never be afraid to say: 'ahh f*** it'. Just the ramblings of a bored man on a Monday morning. 24. Nice work Mark, well done. When's the big prize draw? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  25. Don't know which one was in Good Stuff but have you checked out this? It reckons there are 14 DZs in Switzerland so you have plenty of choice! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
