  1. I'm not interested in screwing the rigger over but I would like him to know what he did - so he can do something to prevent it happening in the future. FYI my rig was bought and packed/assembled in the US but is now in the UK, where my rigger discovered the problem. He was moving my Cypres from my old rig in to my new rig. Between collecting the new rig and leaving it with my rigger I put around a dozen jumps on it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. It was above the ring and yes, the only way I can see it happening is during assembly. You'd first have to wrap the brake line around the lines, then pass the brake line through the guide ring and then attach the toggle to the brake line. That's exactly what I thought. It smacks of laziness and inattention to detail. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. When repacking my reserve my rigger found the left brake line wrapped around the rest of the rear-left lines: [inline reserve.gif] How serious an error is this? Is it possible for the slider to get trapped? I'm trying to contact the rigger that packed and assembled it originally (not my normal rigger). Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. 2K Composite helmets are built to your spec so ask the seller what camera they had the helmet built for. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  5. Coming in on half brakes is surely going to make the flare even less powerful? Think how accuracy guys land, they come in in very deep brakes and have almost nothing left to flare with - and they stoof in! Have you checked the length of your brake lines? Maybe you're physically not able to flare all the way with the brakelines as they are. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. The max speed that the ProTrack reports isn't from a fixed point in the jump it's simply the highest (vertical) speed you reached whilst in freefall. Maybe that was at the top end whilst diving down to a formation, maybe it was in the middle when the formation funnelled or maybe it was from the end when you went in to a steep track. Or maybe none of the above! Both the ProTrack and Neptune deal only in vertical speeds because all they can measure is air pressure and how quickly it's changing. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. I'm suprised by that. I have 400-odd jumps on a couple of Spectres and 200-odd on a Sabre2 and the flare in Sabre2 blew me away after all those Spectre jumps. Not that the Spectre flare sucks (it's quite good really) just that the Sabre2 seemed way more powerful. Be careful dude, I was lucky to walk away from a low turn on a Spectre at 1.3. 8. I'm waiting eagerly on my rev 2 issue. Any idea when it'll be shipping? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  9. This is line dump: [inline linedump.gif] General opinion seems to be that this isn't a problem since once the lines are taut (and you reach linestretch) your deployment continues as normal. [inline linestretch.gif] Bagdump is where the canopy has escaped the bag and has started to inflate before you reach linestretch: [inline bagdump.gif] The problem with bagdump is the rate at which you'll decelerate when your lines go taut - your opening could be hard enough to damage you and/or your equipment. I think I deserve a medal for those drawings. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  10. I sir will give you £0.01 and if everyone else in the world does too you'll be a rich man. Does your solution involve a pitot tube? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  11. Unfortunately even gps can't give you your forward airspeed, only your groundspeed. So you either need to know the wind speed and direction (and adjust your readings accordingly) or you need to jump in absolute nil winds! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  12. Maybe, but wouldn't you own up after a while? I'd hate to leave people thinking I was completely ignorant of what happened. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  13. My girlfriend has been travelling a lot recently and told me about a Canadian she'd met in Australia who hadn't heard of apartheid, not that he didn't recognise the actual word but that he didn't know anything about it. I was staggered but it got me thinking, is it all that unusual? If you don't know what I'm talking about don't feel bad about answering 'no' but take 5 minutes, do a google search and see what you find. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Packing....

Have a look at the sequence of pictures on PackingParachutes.com, is that how you're folding the canopy? There's an alternative method where you do that first fold last, once the rest of canopy is already in the bag - it can make it much easier to control that slippery zp. You've probably seen it already but if not then have someone show you. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  15. Hmmm, so when can we expect one around the 99 square foot mark?
  16. I was reminded of this post by something that happened on Saturday. I did a couple of jumps pulling at 10k to fly around on my new xf2 and sound it out a bit. On the 2nd jump I left the brakes stowed and was trying turns on the rear risers, there I was having a blast being quite suprised by how quickly it would turn with a small input when I gave one particularly hard input - and put the canopy in to a spiral! I looked up, both brakes still stowed, spirals getting harder and harder, gone round a few times, popped the brakes and it recovered without any further input. Weird. I'd like to try it again up high because I'd hate to do it by accident at 2k. BTW this canopy rocks! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  17. Chris, I had the same thing. Had a series of very weird/scary delays which almost always resulted in twists when it eventually opened. I had 3 riggers look at it, 1 extended the kill line, 1 extended the tapes that run from the end of the bridle to the apex and another extended those tapes further - and I still got the occasional odd delay. So I binned it! For £40 (what it cost to get a new pc) I got peace of mind and better openings - well worth it.. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  18. This is what I'm talking about. The Low Turn Panel was started (I believe) about a year ago and they're still not ready for presentation to STC? I'm not saying I don't see why they'd introduce mandatory aads (I know people that would be dead had they not had one) just that their priorities seem to be wrong. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  19. How are the majority of people dying/maiming themselves in our sport? Under a functioning canopy. Where does the BPA appear to be concentrating its efforts? Mandatory aads, when the vast majority of people have one anyway. It doesn't make much sense to me. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  20. I keep hearing rumours that a multi millionaire recent AFF graduate is starting a dz near Valencia. All I could find was this post which pointed to the website for The Ultimate High Air Adventures. Does anyone know anything about it? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  21. My shiny new xf2 came with rapide links that I'd like to replace with slinks. I have an unused set that have been sitting in a dark dry box for 18 months or so, they should be ok shouldn't they? Anything I should look for before installing them? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

It sounds like the guy you saw was lucky. Not lucky that he had a nice high E (it didn't stop him from pulling unstable did it?) but lucky that his unstable deployment didn't put him in to the wall. Where would you rather be with a 180 and line twists, flying under an S or flying towards an E? I have several skydiving friends who've said to me "are you going to Norway this summer? I'll come!" but will gladly admit they don't want to BASE jump - and it worries me. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  23. The E1-11 is good but remember that the reciprocal agreement we have with the other participating countries only covers their public healthcare facilities. What if you're in critical condition (not all that unlikely given what we do) and the closest/best hospital is private? In the past I've taken out Axa single trip insurance when going to Spain but at the moment I have an annual multitrip policy with Marks and Spencer. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  24. If it was his normal kit (and it looked like it) it was an Icarus Omega 169. I think he's just bought a new Teardrop SF as well. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  25. I've done one and it was most excellent - until I landed without flaring . Very cool freefall though . Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
