  1. If you do that you've created a rigid frame and we'll start on the "is it really a wingsuit" argument all over again . Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. No, infact it's pretty sensible given what can happen. Also, less experienced jumpers are more likely to gain less seperation during their track, so having more time to track is probably a good thing. The freefly jumps I'm in normally break around 5k. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. There's a thread about a suit like that here. I think Birdman have tried this but the force on your arms becomes bigger as you push the arm position further forward, to the point where it becomes impossible to hold it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. Yes I know. It's an internal dialogue that everyone else can hear. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  5. In general, no, I wouldn't because I don't think a non-jumper can fully appreciate the importance of what they're doing and the consequences of doing it wrong. Would you let a mechanic fix your brakes if they couldn't drive? I don't know but I would guess that most air force mechanics can't fly. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  6. I've had an SF for the last 200 jumps, I had an Atom before that. When I come to replace it I doubt I will buy another one, I would rather save for a bit longer and buy something else. They're safe and pretty well made but when I saw some Vector 3s recently you could see and feel the difference in build quality. On the one occasion that I spoke to Chris Thomas he was not very friendly or helpful. Perhaps I'm being unfair but TSE strikes me as a company that will follow rather than lead in terms of gear safety and innovation. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. I saw Richardd land a round reserve recently and it was not a pretty sight. Given how much attention is paid to spotting (ie not alot) having very little control over where you are going to land is not just an unappealing prospect, it's potentially very dangerous. There are good reasons why very few people have round reserves these days. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  8. If you halve the resolution you can quarter the filesize. Have a look at some of the 6 minute/5 mb vids you've seen, what settings are they using? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  9. The openings on my Sabre2 are pretty variable, ranging from better than the best to worse than the worse opening I ever had on my Spectres. With a good body position jumping the wingsuit doesn't seem to make them worse, it may even improve them a bit. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  10. Hi Steve, First off the BPA's suggested requirements for wingsuit jumping is 500 jumps or 250 in the last 18 months so you might find that you're ok. We did some 15 ways at the wingsuit festival at Weston a few weekends ago, chasing Fordy who was on his back. Yes, the fallrate was quite quick, around 70mph. Interestinly enough he mentioned asking Birdman about building a special backflying suit but I think it was too much work for them to be worthwhile. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  11. If you don't mind the occasional funky opening the Sabre2 is a good choice. I'm only a fledgling swooper (on a Sabre2 120 at 1.5:1) but when I get it right it can swoop quite nicely, the flare feels really good and seems to go on for ages. I was chatting to one of the instructors at my home dz who has a Sabre2 and a Stiletto and he prefers his Sabre2 and feels he gets better swoops from it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  12. Loads of posts about it, their homepage is here. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  13. Absolutely maxed out for the whole flight in my GTi I've had a 46 average and a handful of 47s. It's a shame I'm too weedy to do more than a couple of them in a row!
  14. Most of them, I think, don't make any difference to how the ProTrack operates, they just act as labels which may be why they're not explained in the manual. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Being a safe BASE jumper

Is it just a statistical blip when someone survives 1000 BASE jumps or does it tell you something about that person? BASE is inherently unsafe but I'm interested to know what you think makes a 'safe' jumper. Not being afraid to climb down? Knowing when not to push your limits? Being happy to ask for advice and being willing to accept advice that you may not like? If you know someone with hundreds of jumps what is it about them that has kept them safe? If you know someone who got hurt was their attitude/personality a factor? I don't jump but I'm taking a fjc soon. It wasn't a trivial decision for me to make, what swung it was my belief that BASE, like skydiving, is about risk management and that the individual can directly control (to a certain extent) the risk he is exposing himself too. Am I kidding myself? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  16. I've done a couple of these. We had the two flatties floating with the person that's going to do the hanging diving whilst already holding onto the chest straps. Launch the flat 3-way then have the freeflyer go into sit/stand. Works like a charm

    British program

Does anyone know if Felix's jump from that B in KL was even illegal? It all looked a bit staged to me and I wouldn't be at all suprised if all the cloak and dagger bollocks ("Armed with $1000 for bribes") was just for show. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  18. I did a birdman jump recently where the Skyvan pilot pushed the speed up to 130 knots for us to try and get above the plane on exit. Once we got down I just couldn't stop grinning and giggling like a little girl - what an awesome jump. There's some video here (600k). Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    LRQS?

LQRS stands for Leg Quick Release System, it's the same cutaway system that's on the arms of the suit but it's down one of the legs. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  20. Another great one of me and Ric, again taken by Sam Bailey. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  21. What's your body position when you're deploying? If you're closing everything up, scrubbing off the forward speed and building up some vertical speed then it might not be too much of an issue. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    British program

Clicky I watched it, it was alright. Had lots on the origins of bungee and plenty on the comercialisation of snowboarding and cliff-diving's reliance on Red Bull. There was a flash of what looked like Jean Loic Albert about to buzz a ski slope but they didn't actually show it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

  24. We had a lot of fun this weekend, jumping with newbies on Saturday then doing some big ways on Sunday. Fordy and Bev did an awesome job organising everything and keeping everyone jumping, thanks dudes
  25. This might sound a bit distasteful but: I was jumping in a 3-way, good jump, packed, went to manifest and one of the guys had manifested without us and got on an earlier lift. After we'd taken the piss for a while and told him he was no longer our friend the 3rd guy leaned over and wispered in my ear "I hope he dies on lift 16!". I was pissing myself for ages, it was just too funny. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
