Did they say no for safety reasons or just practical ones? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Good question, I was wondering this myself the other day. Also, is it possible, with a pin rig, that the bottom pin could get pulled before the velcro has completely shrivelled? Did he say anything more than "leave enough excess"? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I basically got the same response. It's a shame becasue I quite fancy a 'hotter' main but the more I think about it the less I want to downsize my reserve and I really fancied a Vector3. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Has anyone noticed any damage (loose threads, seams) after washing their suit a number of times? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

You're right, there's the M1Z (107 main/143 res) and the M3X (120 main/160 res). Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I washed my GTI last night and I'm man enought to admit it: I was scared. Oh yes. The good news is that it didn't come out all melted and deformed and f*&£$ed up. Infact it came out great

Is the Wings EXT the only container that will let you have mismatched main/reserve canopies, ie a Cobalt 65 and a PDR 281? (exagerated example) I found some old posts talking about mismatched canopies causing problems if you have 2 out, is that why more manufacturers aren't making it an option? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

With a Birdman suit: around 130 seconds from 13500 down to 3500. High 40s average. Normal freefall: about 85 seconds on an Atmonauti dive, 14000 down to 3000, average speed in the mid 90s. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Calling UK - newbie needs help!
gus replied to purplekittenUK's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'll give you my opinion FWIW. I think the main problem would be if you only partially completed the course then turned up at a UK dz hoping to finish it off. I know people who have had problems trying to do that, some dzs can be a bit funny about it. I think they feel that you've taken business away from them by not doing AFF with them and they're not always as helpful as they should be. But lots of people do it and there are definately plus points: better weather, faster progression, cheaper jumps. Make sure you allow enough time for some bad weather and rejumps if necessary. I flew from Orlando to Chicago on my way back to London last week. Watched my suitcase (with 2 rigs in it) go through the TSA's machine, was quite certain they'd query it but they didn't bat an eyelid. When I came in to the US (Washington) the customs guy got me to open up my suitcase but didn't seemed particularly interested in the rig. He twanged my hackey a few times "What's this for?", twang, twang. I asked him how often he saw skydiving gear and he said it was the first rig he'd seen in the year that he'd been working there. All in all it was much easier than I thought it might be. What caught my attention was some of the crap that people take on as hand luggage, you could easily take a rig. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I'd like to change my container (for one that actually fits!) and I didn't know whether Relative Workshop made Vector 3s with wingsuit mods so I sent them an email, here's what I got back: When I asked what the "wing suit d-bag with inbound stows" was I got another prompt reply: Has anyone seen these mods in the flesh? What do you think? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I don't know of any skydiving shops that aren't at a dz, the skydiving population just isn't big enough. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Basic Research sell a round called the H20 for water jumps. It's not listed on their price list so I don't know what it costs although I would imagine that it's significantly cheaper than a new square. Would the benefit of having the cops 'only' confiscate a round outweigh the inability to steer the canopy? I don't know, but maybe you could just buy a 2nd hand rig with a square canopy that you keep for high bust factor jumps. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Do you think that slight overlap (see attached pic from the Morpheus website) is the deciding factor? Alien Skin SF? I put my thumb on the channel just before it goes under the right flap and push it up and under the flap to keep it taught, seems to help keep it neat and tight. Edited to add attachment. Hmm, I'll try to have a look at one to see what the difference is then. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I don't think bitmaps (ie .bmp files) offer levels of compression so the only way to reduce the file size is to make the image smaller or reduce the number of colours. For example you might be saving it as a 24-bit colour bitmap when you could save it as 256, 16 or even 2 colours. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Hi Sam, A while back I spoke to Chris Thomas (of TSE) about opening the corners on my SF. As far as I remember he implied that it's not something he's done before but he'd be happy to do it. About a week ago I got Robert Jones (of Morpheus) to have a look. He wasn't too keen to do it because of the way the corners are stitched. He basically said that if the corners are stitched in the same way as a Javelin then you can do it but if they're different then it's not going to work as well. I'd need to have a look at a Javelin to see how they're different, is it because Javelin corners wrap around the bottom of the container a little where SF corners don't? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Ok, that explains it.

I was thinking more why wouldn't it be the case with a velcro reserve pad, rather than why shoudn't it be the case. I think if you jump a soft reserve handle you have to accept that it will require peeling in the same way that your cutaway does. Perhaps I missunderstood your original post but it sounded like you were implying that a soft reserve handle only requires peeling if it's been designed badly. If that is the case (and maybe it is) then why do cutaway pads require peeling? Edited to add: I have a soft reserve handle on my Teradrop Superfly so I'm interested in what people think. Yes, those are dynamic corners. They were originally conceived (I believe by Robert Jones at Morpheus) to make wingsuit deployments cleaner - by opening up the corners you prevent the 'lip' at the bottom of the container obstructing the dbag/canopy as it leaves at an angle behind you rather than directly above you. I know what you mean about wondering what is happening to your line stows when you rotate the dbag but I've never packed a skydiving rig with dynamic corners so I don't know what difference it makes. I was taught my cutaway drills as "look reach grab peel punch" or something like that, the point is there was a "peel" in there somewhere. If that's the case with a velcro cutaway pad why wouldn't it be the case with a velcro reserve pad? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

The classifieds section on dirtdive.co.uk is normally quite busy, Enclave is also worth a look but will be more US-centric. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Your nicest aircraft to (solo) exit from?
gus replied to Erroll's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I can only count 8 different types of aircraft that I've jumped. I like 182, 206 and Cherokee 6 because they're so small, do a floating exit and you're head and shoudlers above the top of this little toy plane. But my favourite (and most memorable) exits have come from the Skyvan in my wingsuit. Let everyone else out, get the pilot to ramp the speed up and exit with your wings open - awesome fun. -
Alright Meeker, This came up before, it's called Gato and it's by Urga. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
