    Ready for BASE?

I realised I was ready when my (now) mentor agreed to take me on and I thought "shit, I'm actually going to do it". Reading websites, talking to BASE jumpers, thinking about fjcs - these things are easy. Making that decision to actually jump - that's the hard part and when it comes to it you'll know whether it's right or not. I'd be interested to hear from anyone that's run an fjc as to whether they've ever had a student turn up who clearly wasn't ready. Do people ever get that far without realising that they're not ready? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. I'm no TM but I'm told that the 1st thing prospective BPA TMs do is watch a video of tandem fatalities. Why? Because prospective TMs need to undertand the consequences of what they're doing and the responsibility that they take on every time they jump with a student. I'm not suggesting that AFF students should be watching snuff movies but I am agreeing with JP, pretending these things don't happen won't help anyone. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. Under certain light conditions, when I jump my Kenko 0.5 with a 37->30mm adapter ring, you can see the ring in the picture. Presumably it's reflecting off the back of the front of the lense, if you see what I mean. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

  5. I can almost guarantee that the following words will appear on the new Katana page: Katana Soft On Heading Openings Sorry if I've spoilt it for anyone
  6. Well said Mac. Mark it's not all that uncommon to have big breaks in the middle of your jumping career, I know several people that have stopped for a number of years (for various reasons) before picking it up again. And you might find that all the time you've spent in the air paragliding will help your confidence. Do it!
  7. I have a handful of pc's with 8 'spokes' running from the apex to the skirt, when I asked a master rigger why some people use less he said "because it's cheaper". Most pc's I see at the dz have 4 'spokes' but some, including the one that came with my container, have none. Is having none bad? I've just retired that pc after some odd delays. 8. Dude, there's only one way to find out: do a tandem or an AFF level 1 and see how you feel. I don't think you'll regret it, either you'll love it and be glad that you gave it another shot or you won't love it but at least you'll know. And it's quite natural to be scared so don't let that put you off.
  9. Nice video Gary, thanks for sharing it. I love what you do with your feet and the tandems - they were all loving it.
  10. I make that about 38 mph - nice! No doubt

  12. I currently jump a 120/120 main/reserve but my new rig that I'm waiting for from Sunrise will have a smaller main but a larger reserve. Their ability to do that was a major factor in my purchasing decision. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  13. Which P3 have you got? I'm running Pinnacle Studio 7 and Adobe Premiere 6 on an Athlon 900 and Windows 2000 with no problems. I did add some ram to get it up to 512 but ram's pretty cheap...... Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

  19. Clay, if you're talking about videos I think you must gone on to my site (www.outpatientsonline.com) rather than my mum's (www.walnutbarn.com) but thanks anyway! Kelly and Michele thanks very much.
  20. Hi all, My mum's new business (she's a massage therapist) is about to feature in the local paper so I've nobbled together a website for her. I'd really appreciate it if you could have a quick look and give me some feedback before it goes live - how easy it is to navigate, dead links, typos etc. The site is http://www.walnutbarn.com. Thanks, love you all
