A sore arse can be quite a serious problem. Please post pics so we can properly diagnose your condition.

I'll be a customer! Fortunately, I no longer have to contend with the acute fear that came close to driving me away from the sport in the beginning. However, anxiety periodically returns and I know it affects both my enjoyment of jumping and my performance.

I read your report with interest, as I had been planning to attend this camp until a work conflict got in the way. I'm glad it worked out so well despite the initial bad weather. I hope they don't wait too long to schedule another one. Dan B-C ran an Airspeed camp I attended and he is great at bringing out the best in every jumper.

making my own customized jumpsuit...
PrairieDoug replied to frenchcloud's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Agreed.. if someone wants to build a jumpsuit b/c they enjoy sewing or want to improve their sewing skills, I say go for it. But if the motivation is to save a few $, I think the cost in terms of time and frustration will be much higher. My personal philosophy is "never do anything you don't want to if you can pay someone else to do it for you." I hire contractors for all home improvements/repairs, maids to clean, the neighbor to mow the lawn, chefs to cook (by eating out at restaurants). So you can see that I would never dream of making my own jumpsuit. -
making my own customized jumpsuit...
PrairieDoug replied to frenchcloud's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
With all the great jumpsuit fabricators out there, why in the world would anybody want to make their own jumpsuit? That sounds like absolute insanity, especially for someone without a lot of sewing experience. I predict the effect of this effort on your mood will follow this sequence: -
Running is the form of exercise that I find most satisfying, both physically and emotionally. There is such a feeling of freedom when you feel like you can run forever.

I'm excited about medical procedures! Am I a freak?
PrairieDoug replied to Vallerina's topic in The Bonfire
You say "freak" like it's a bad thing. -
Thanks a lot to edwinsneller, crwmike, and NickB for your feedback -- I really appreciate it. I'm still feeling a little conflicted on whether or not to commit to this trip. The Keys are beautiful... but everything is so much more expensive at Christmas, and wearing full wetsuits is not the "tropical experience" I had in mind... but I'd still like to do some kind of holiday getaway.

I've been working with a travel agent to arrange a vacation around Christmas with my kids (age 16-22). She's recommending a trip to the Fla Keys, including stays in Isla Morada, Key Largo, and Key West. It sounds nice, but I'm wondering if the weather there that time of year will be an issue. We're really looking for a tropical-type experience. Is it warm enough in December to swim in the ocean and hang out on the beach without shivering? I'd really appreciate feedback on this from anyone who has lived on the Keys or visited during that time of year, If the Keys thing doesn't work out, I'll just save the money and go to the DZ.com holiday boogie instead! Thanks a lot, Doug

Been trudging the road of happy destiny with BW for 5,500+ days. It's a better way of life (for me).

How much of an age diff is too much???
PrairieDoug replied to jumpinjackflash's topic in The Bonfire
'fraid not. My understanding is that the rule only applies to men. Women seem to be more constrained (by "society") on the "younger than" side. Don't feel bad, though -- you are free to push the limits on the "older than" side as far as you please. -
I've never met her, but she seems to have an intriguing personality and a playful spirit.

My view is different. Intimacy is a fundamental part of the human experience, and it's a legit thing to expect from a partner. Plus, my experience has been that "not getting any" is just the tip of the iceberg... it reflects a disconnect at other levels.

Front Row Surprise at Vote for Change Concert
PrairieDoug replied to PrairieDoug's topic in The Bonfire
The order of appearance by the heavy hitters was REM, PJ, DMB, and then Springsteen. All the performers then teamed up for a feel-good closing number. I told my son that the downside is that he's now been spoiled for future shows. -
Front Row Surprise at Vote for Change Concert
PrairieDoug replied to PrairieDoug's topic in The Bonfire
Last night I went with my son to the Vote for Change concert at the MCI center in DC. Even though I ordered tix online within 15 minutes after they went on sale, the only seats left were in the very top row of the arena. We were joking when we sat down that we should have brought oxygen masks. Then right after the 1st set started, a guy with the promotion group came up and offered us front row center seats. We felt like we had just won the lottery. The acts included: Bruce Springsteen, Dave Mathews, Pearl Jam, REM, Dixie Chicks with James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Rait, Keb Mo, John Mellencamp, Baby Face, and a couple others. What a great memory. Life handed us a real gem. Michael Stipe is a hoot and Bruce totally rocked the house. -
At the end of the movie, the medical Nazi's lobotomize Nicholson's character so that they can control him. This kills the spirit and personality that made him such a memorable guy. The indian dude suffocates him out of compassion because he knows that he wouldn't want to live like that. Cuckoo's Nest is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Speak for yourself. I found her question to be relevant to my own experience and a reasonable attempt to gain some perspective on a difficult and complex personal issue. Like she mentioned, you are free to ignore any posts that don't interest you.

Think I found Life Insurance....
PrairieDoug replied to Spatula's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The USPA sponsors an AD&D plan that is quite competitive in terms of costs and benefits. Check it out. I heard about it through a USPA mailing to members. -
I had a similar sense of speed on AFF jumps when I pulled and was able to watch my AFFI's tracking away while my canopy was deploying. They were like bullets being shot out of a rifle.

DZ poster -- any thoughts
PrairieDoug replied to StevePhelps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Very nicely done. If you add any more pics to it, I'd consider one of somebody under canopy. -
I've wondered about this myself. One possible explanation that I came up with is that sometimes we think we should have accomplished X, Y or Z by a certain age, and if we haven't it bothers us.

If you were gay, which dz.commer would you like to do?
PrairieDoug replied to Muenkel's topic in The Bonfire
This is EZ -- it would be Keith, so at least one of us knows what we're doing... plus he seems cool and is good looking... -
There is no shame in falling down, just in failing to rise.
