Well done, Ed. It's a better way of life.
-
Yes, but blaming it on Fate or Destiny has more dramatic effect.
-
Damn, what a bummer to learn that -- after traveling thousands of miles -- I was actually on the same DZ as my DZ.com crush and didn't even know it. Fate can be so cold.

Done.

Steel sounds crazy, but IIRC Bill Booth has said that steel actually absorbs shocks better than microline.

The thread in Incidents about the recent hard opening at Skydive Dallas got me thinking again about the wisdom of using dacron lines to protect against hard openings. Bill Booth had this to say: So I was wondering how many jumpers use dacron vs. non-stretch lines. In my case, I ordered spectra without being aware of safety issues. Will probably switch to dacron for next line set.

Ride offered 12/26: I land in Phoenix at 4:30 pm on the 26th and would be glad to give up to 3 people a ride to Eloy. Really looking forward to this trip!

I'm a life-long runner, formerly competitive. Getting "in the zone" on a run is very therapeutic for me mentally and emotionally, I try to mix up my exercise routine, but nothing gives me the workout buzz that running does. Plus... you never know when you might get chased!

Confession: I have an online crush on NWFlyer. Yes, it's really quite pathetic since I've never met her or even been within a hundred miles AFAIK. Thank god for the new avatar... now I can think about her without feeling like such a perv.

Hey Laurie -- Looking our best helps us feel our best, doesn't it? It will be nice to see you in person at the DZ. We need to do some RW this year. Take care, Doug

I am glad women don't go topless in public in the US.
PrairieDoug replied to ccowden's topic in The Bonfire
Chris -- You make a valid point, as does Viking. The novelty of boobies is still a big turn on -- even at my advanced age of 47 -- and I would hate to lose that. How about if we just designate just 1 topless day per month? That way we could all see more boobies without it becoming too routine. Doug -
Waldo reached out to me when I needed help, even though he had never met me before. It happened when I got injured at Orange a couple of years ago. Waldo took charge of the situation on the ground and rode with me in the ambulance to the hospital. He stayed there while I got fixed up and arranged a ride for us both to get back to Orange. When we got back to the bonfire at the DZ, he even got a couple of those beautiful Orange ladies to flash sympathy boobies! All this for someone he didn't even know. Thank you, brother. Doug

Fair enough... and your willingness to still make a contribution when possible is generous.

Most expensive bit of gear you have lost?
PrairieDoug replied to Mike111's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I lost a Sabre 2 with 100 jumps on it and a reserve freebag this weekend at Skydive the Point's Holloween boogie. -
rl -- Do you consider yourself a skydiver?
-
Date her? No way. Do her? Definitely, as a one time thing.

Dear Bill -- I never met you, but wanted to get in on the Happy Birthday chorus out of respect for your commitment to pushing the envelope. So... Have a great birthday! Doug

Skydive West Point (VA) Halloween Boogie ?
PrairieDoug replied to PrairieDoug's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Kevin -- Thanks, that's just the kind of perspective I was looking for! The latest weather forecast looks pretty favorable as well (sunny, 60's). See ya there, Doug -
Skydive West Point (VA) Halloween Boogie ?

What's the buzz on this event? I'm thinking of checking it out this weekend. The info on the website sounds good, but I'd be interested in knowing more before making the trip. Vibe, turnout, party potential, etc. Thanks and blue skies! Doug -
It's quite a curious phenomenon, how sometimes a thread of this nature will be playfully embraced and other times it'll be totally kicked in the nuts. I'm guessing it has partly to do with how well known the poster is. And also with how cleverly the idea is presented.

Ditto ...I think Parachutist has been consistently outstanding.

Balls are an excellent choice for a pet snake. I have a ball and a corn snake, among many other pets. I feed live mice, but only add one mice at a time and watch to see that the snake is hungry. You can also stun the mice by throwing them against the wall before feeding. (It sounds rough, but it's arguably more humane than freezing the mouse or letting the snake kill it.) I also feed my snakes in a separate enclosure so they don't associate my reaching into the cage with a snack. Balls need a relatively warm, moderate humidity environment. If it's too dry, they'll have trouble shedding, especially the eyecaps. Enjoy your new critter, Chelle! Doug
