boldest thing you ever did to show someone you like them
PrairieDoug replied to antifnsocial's topic in The Bonfire
Well bro, I hear there are now some effective medical treatments for premature ejaculation. -
what was the very first 45,album,cassette,or cd you ever owned?
PrairieDoug replied to caress's topic in The Bonfire
Album: "Fragile" by Yes -
Hi Sarah -- As a moderately regular jumper at Chambersburg, we would love to have you visit. The DZ is very convenient to most locations in Maryland (except maybe east of the Chesapeake Bay). Doug
-
The new CD is consistently strong and has 3-4 real gems on it.
-
Walt, please surrender your guy card immediately pending further review.

As a father, it makes me feel good to be able to do nice things for my kids. If I made them an offer as generous as your father's, my hope is that they would accept it graciously. Accepting it with reservations and a sense of guilt takes the fun away for the giver.

New to Washington DC area, looking for dropzone!
PrairieDoug replied to skydiva1978's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Hi Kaitlyn -- Welcome to Maryland. I live in Germantown, just a few miles north of Rockville. There are several good DZs in the area, including those already mentioned. Another one that you should add to the list is Skydive Chambersburg in PA. On the plus side: Chambersburg is closer than the others (approx. 80 miles from Rockville) and the drive is not plagued by the traffic jams that you get on I95 (into Virginia) or the Bay Bridge (going to the Eastern shore). The main jumpship is a King Air, so you can always get on a load and get to altitude in a hurry.. Downside: The DZ does not have a large and enthusiastic cadre of experienced jumpers. As a result, there is not as strong a DZ "vibe" and sense of community as you might find elsewhere. Please come jump there and help us change that! -
NWFlyer, I hereby plead guilty to being confused... I misread the post. Like Walt said, let's get off this tangent and back to the original thread, which I found hilarious.

Assuming that you're serious, lighten up and let the forum moderators do their job. (They're actually quite capable.)

"Falling Into Place" by Rita Ippoliti (another BOOK Q)
PrairieDoug replied to thegreekone's topic in The Bonfire
I've never met Rita and don't have any first hand knowledge of her heart. character, or skydiving ability. But I have read the book... I found it annoying and would not recommend it. -
Yup, that would be me. The actual cutaway pull was closer to 1600-1800 ft, did not check my altitude immediately following reserve deployment. One of my last thoughts prior to cutting away was about the Saturday incident and not wanting to repeat the error of deciding too late to cut away.

To balance out the threads critical of this year's WFFC, I would just like to state for the record that I had a FANTASTIC time and really appreciate the hard work of all those who made it possible.
-
Laurie -- May this year be filled with great things for you. The best is ahead! I'll give you a b-day hug next time I see you up at Chambersburg. Blue skies, Doug

Sabre 2 openings and strategies for dealing with them
PrairieDoug replied to darrenspooner's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've been getting soft, on-heading openings since I started to psycho pack my S2 170 (1.1:1). This is only for the past 50 jumps, which I recognize is a limited data set. But I'll keep doing it as long as it keeps giving me results that I like. Doug -
I jump Sabre 2 and have a hard opening in X jumps (on average)
PrairieDoug replied to veter_'s topic in Safety and Training
100 jumps on S2 170 at 1.1:1. No hard openings. During 1st 50 jumps it sometimes opened off heading, but this hasn't happened lately. Love how the canopy flies and lands. -
Hard pressed to find a date? Get your friends to help -
PrairieDoug replied to gravitational's topic in The Bonfire
This crossed my mind as well. I imagine that the Mormon community is not too keen on "alternative" lifestyles, which would just make it more difficult than usual to come to terms with one's sexuality. Path of least resistance: hide or deny. -
There is video of this on Norman Kent's Willing to Fly DVD.

Kathleen, Assuming your medical issues aren't an ongoing issue, you shouldn't necessarily let one less-than-perfect jump keep you grounded for life. A lot of very competent skydivers got off to a humbling start. (Half of that statement applies to me.) Take some time to get a better perspective before making any firm decisions. Of course, if you eventually decide that skydiving is not for you, there's nothing wrong with that. Good luck, Doug
-
If you click on a fundamental level, the date will go well no matter where you take her. And vice-versa. Have fun! Doug

It's inspiring to see how enthusiastically he lived his life following such an appalling experience. I really admire people like that.

Excellent! For today, you da man. (Tomorrow will be someone else's turn.)

Well, I have a pet tarantula if that qualifies. Her name is Cecilia, and she is a stunningly beautiful Mexican Red-Knee. She is responsible for bringing more than one potential romance to a screeching halt. Helpful hint of the day: When you're in the market for your next tarantula, make sure you get a female. Females have a life expectancy of 20+ years, while males die shortly after reaching sexual maturity (3-4 years).

Yikes,,, My oldest daughter is on a study abroad program in Santiago. I'm gonna get off dz.com and go check the news.

Double Surgery, a good idea?
PrairieDoug replied to pauld767's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Why are you asking skydivers for medical advice? Would you ask your doctor for skydiving advice?
