Could be... I rarely miss an opportunity to be self-righteous since they come along so rarely.

Sheena, I've got a sticker on my fridge that reads "Bones Heal." And I can say from experience that it's true. Hopefully, this injury will only be a temporary setback to accomplishing your goals in skydiving or whatever else.

Hello, my name is Emily and I have a weight problem
PrairieDoug replied to monte's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not sure if your statement is accurate or not, but keep in mind that terminal velocity is reached within about 10 seconds. Therefore, the acceleration period is pretty short relative to total freefall time on each jump. So it is the "top speed" (i.e., terminal velocity) during the rest of the skydive that matters most as far as maintaining vertical proximity to other jumpers. -
Thanks to the previous respondents to this post for reaffirming my belief that skydivers are, for the most part, really cool people.

WFFC Pre-Registration Question
PrairieDoug replied to PrairieDoug's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I was too... but my stuff finally showed up on Sat. -
Remster & Lawrocket are right on target... Why am I always so surprised when skydivers demonstrate good judgment, common sense, and knowledge about stuff outside the sport?

WFFC Pre-Registration Question
PrairieDoug replied to PrairieDoug's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I pre-registered for Rantoul on the WFFC website about 10 days ago (definitely before the cutoff). Haven't gotten a confirmation back from them or anything like that. Should I have received something or do I just show up at the check-in and say that I pre-registered? Thanks. -
You forgot to add babeliciously gorgeous (based on her avatar photo).

If the radio guy instructed you to fly into a wall or do a 180 deg turn at 100 ft, would you? Not trying to bust your chops, just making the point that you are ultimately responsible for your own safety. That is true from jump #1 to jump #10,000.

Among the offerings, Redfotn10 submitted by FallRate is my favorite, although Kris had several strong entries. Ivan, you weren't at the top of your game today, even though you partially redeemed yourself with Boobs2. Large and natural together are a great combo, but if it's gotta be one or the other I go with natural every time.

Chris -- Please accept condolences from a friend you haven't met yet. The love and respect you have for your father is apparent. Under the circumstances, I believe the path your father choose is an honorable and understandable one. I hope your grieving process leads you to some serenity and acceptance. Sincerely, Doug (FOB 1989)

Wingsuit lecture/forum and BMI course at WFFC
PrairieDoug replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Events & Places to Jump
You and DaGimp make valid points about jump #'s vs. currency and traffic issues at WFFC. Those are reasonable safety precautions. So I'm NOT going to follow my 1st instinct and claim that " this doesn't apply to me because of _________ (fill in the blank)." Instead, I'll focus on getting qualified for wingsuit flying down the road, starting someplace that doesn't have the same issues as the convention. Thanks for the feedback. -
I, Robot -- didja see it? Comments/questions

Geez, it never even occurred to me that someone would think for a second that I was being serious. Lighten up... -
Wingsuit lecture/forum and BMI course at WFFC
PrairieDoug replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Well, I guess I won't need to worry about finding you guys this year. For some reason, I thought the min jump # would be closer to 200. Oh well, I'll track you down when I meet those requirements. -

PrairieDoug replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Don't want to hijack the thread, but what's the best way for new wingsuit flyers to get in the air? Will you and other BMI have a tent? How much ground training is required before 1st wingsuit jump? Thanks a lot. (And apologies in advance if this info is posted elsewhere and I missed it.) -

Am I mistaken, or wasn't PJ recently banned from offering movie reviews... had something to do with dragons and skydiving? Were his movie reviewing privileges reinstated? -
Is Hartwood Paracenter (VA) Open?
PrairieDoug replied to PrairieDoug's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Agreed. 13-14K has become the baseline and anything less seems like you're getting shortchanged. In addition to altitude though, I'll also be looking for attitude (positive vibe) and professionalism. -
Just got me a new Sabre2!!
PrairieDoug replied to Jskydiver22's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've had a blast flying my Sabre2 170 @ 1.1WL. Like any new ZP canopy, the major challenge has been getting it in the bag. I'm a recent convert to psycho-packing, which has made that MUCH easier and had no adverse effect on openings. BTW, several folks have reported that the openings tend to settle down after the canopy has been jumped for a while. -
Is Hartwood Paracenter (VA) Open?
PrairieDoug replied to PrairieDoug's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I hope this happens -- it would give me another option that's closer than most of what's currently available. As far as your thoughts about getting out of the sport, how do you know that the new Hartwood will be to your liking? If it is under new management, there will undoubtedly be lots of changes. (And I might add, some changes will be welcome.) -
If you were soon going to come in to a significant chunk of change.....
PrairieDoug replied to Muenkel's topic in The Bonfire
On a more serious note, the recipient should be aware that a financial windfall can be accompanied by some new challenges, of a sort that they may not be well equipped to deal with. For example, it has been documented that many lottery winners end up resenting their good fortune because of these issues. Of course, it doesn't HAVE to work out that way -- a windfall can allow positive life changes (for you and others) if managed wisely. -
What a great weekend!!!

Congratulations. I was at Chambersburg most of the day Sat, but not Sunday. Hope to meet you guys up there sometime. Blue ones! -

This quote is from another forum... I've looked but can't find any confirmation that Hartwood has reopened. Anyone know anything? -
Daredevil granny, 96, seeking thrills
PrairieDoug replied to riggersam's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Gotta love that attitude. A couple of weeks ago at Skydive Chambersburg a woman named Helen celebrated her 75th birthday with a tandem. On the same day there were also a disabled guy (Cerebral Palsy?) and a woman with MS doing tandems. I was proud of the way the dropzone made the effort to help them achieve their goals.
