I would say the whole two party system has gone off the deep end. There is no longer ANY effort on either side to create consensus. It is all just one group forcing their agendas on the other group, and both sides trying to block everything they can. The government is broken. Right down the middle, more or less. It doesn't matter who you choose to blame, because blaming doesn't fix the problem. Yep. The two party system gives you the choice between the party that stands for larger government with more control because they know what's best for you or the the party that does the same to save your soul, but also protects your gun rights. Sure sounds like preferential treatment. A person that wanted to score points or just not make waves could be very tempted to promote individuals for criteria other than merit. Nice job ignoring the meat of the post. Interesting you don't mention any of the other spending that got us into debt, like military adventures in Iraq. I thought handouts covered it.

People shouldn't have to opt-out of buying it. Is having health insurance a good idea? Yes. Should it be mandatory? No. Repeal EMTALA. Citizens and legal immigrants that are unable to afford healthcare insurance get basic coverage by Medicaid. Everyone else has healthcare insurance or pays out of pocket. Oh and if someone has fancy electronics and a nice car, they don't qualify for Medicaid, regardless of what their W-2 or 1099 states.

Ron, I'm sorry you still feel so much guilt but also feel you're not being honest with yourself as to how and why you and the mother came to this difficult decision, but it was ultimately her decision. That said, if the thought process was as simple as you stated, do you feel you would have been good parents had abortion not been a legal option? I'm sure in your work as a substance abuse counselor you saw many children with unfit parents and thought "these children don't deserve this." Have you had any contact with the mother since?
