But that is not two consenting adults. Same when they bring up the "oh, well I guess people can marry a child now." That also is not two consenting adults. Only adult animals.     The reason the average person doesn't is because they can. The uncertainty of if a criminal's intended target having a gun in itself is a deterrent. Is it? Isn't the argument that criminals can get any weapons they please and therefore you HAVE to have the biggest, badest assed weapon possible to stop them? Oh God! Anything smaller than a .40 simply will not be sufficient . . . unless it's a .223 with a 30 round magazine. Well, can't the criminal have an even bigger weapon and assume only a small percentage have the balls to stand up to him? See, it's an arms race. Unless, of course, you choose not to participate in the paranoia. One does not need a bigger weapon, just shoot first and/or have better aim.

As for the violence, it's because sex is so taboo. One can watch a movie on basic cable during the day and see all the violence and gore. The only thing that's edited out is the nudity and the cuss words. Another cause is politeness and political correctness. People are afraid to speak their minds for fear of the consequences.     Unfortunately since other countries don't do the same and there are/were not trade requirements requiring the same air/water quality standards to import products to the US, US manufacturing was irreversibly impacted.     The biggest issue facing our country is a lack of focus. How can we expect to accomplish anything when we can't keep focus on anything? :We've become a society of the most recent thing becoming all consuming until the next thing. Examples: Obamacare Hurricane Sandy The Fiscal Cliff The Drug War The Middle East Afghanistan School shootings While one could blame the media and politicians for this, the real blame lies with all of us for putting up with it. Is what happened tragic? Yes. It it statistically significant enough to be used to change laws/policy? No. Of course, all this will be moot after the next politically and media overpublicised tragedy.     I disagree. Preventative measures would also work on mass shootings in locations other than schools. Hence, spending the same effort and finances on preventative measures will have a much broader reach then just defending schools. And for the millionth time, I will clarify that preventative measures does not mean banning guns. There is much more involved than just guns. And that is why nothing you propose will make any difference. Preventative measures don't work. Defensive measures are needed. Or more correctly, removing the laws that prohibit defensive measures.     Like I have said before, I prefer a preventative approach. According to you they are all useless. Don't think you and I will ever come to any type of agreement on this, and that's ok.
