    Well let's be fair here. Sure they have. There just aren't that many Atheists compared to Christians. The highest number I found was 4% (U.S. Population, Yahoo search) and others much lower. It seems a lot people don't care about religion but aren't ready to declare themselves as Atheist. But sure Atheist have been murdering Christians and the Christians have been murdering Atheist. Murdering in the name of Atheism? In the name(s) of the non existent being(s) I don't believe in and in accordance with the ancient book(s) I don't follow, I must kill you now.     I don't think that they have that sort of "long term" goal. Not a "lets get out of hand, so that the government clamps down on our people so that we can provoke a real revolt" sort of plan. They are simply thugs who can't abide anyone "dissing" their prophet. So they, like any thug, try to intimidate people into compliance. And when the intimidation doesn't work, they lash out violently. The Ayatollah's death threat against Salman Rushdie is exactly the same sort of thug tactic. Scare people into silence. Thankfully less and less people are willing to be silent. Eventually Islam will learn to not take itself so seriously or just start ignoring it.

    I dare say that being a champion of the "right, trendy, popular,politically correct, whatever, things does not constitute a legitimate defense. By it's VERY nature, murder...ANY murder is a hate crime for it incorporates some factor of malice. The lifestyle, race, political leanings of the victim are irrelevant even absent of current law. I agree that there should not be a differentiation in statute of a crime based on solely the motive of prejudice and calling a crime a hate crime is somewhat misleading as while the term is broad, the focus is narrow. From reading the article, he believed all were equal and hated all equally.

    Blue person kills purple person. Blue person belongs to a group that believes and has a book stating anyone not blue can be killed without consequence or should just die. Blue person announced publicly prior to incident that he hates purple people. Police respond to a call where an individual slept with somebody else's partner and was shot and killed. The shooter was blue and the victim purple. They could very easily be the same incident but the group association and history of hatred and violence in that group does give motive before all the facts are known.     I would hope that in our country that "religions" or anti-religions, or any other 'organization' doesn't get any respect, rights or privileges. that should be for individuals and they should all be the same. we're a country of individuals. not groups, not couples, not demographics, not religions, not organizations, not social awareness groups, ......you get the idea unfortunately it seems everything we do is about how to legislate unequal treatment of people based on how they organize so we got that going for us While definitely agree special treatment based on DNA and/or chromosomes is an issue, it pales compared to special treatment based on arbitrary association to unprovable belief in deities.

As for the rest......why is it that Muslims must be treated with respect as such a small % are actually terrorist, yet in your limited capacity all Christians are completely and totally 100% women controllers? The answer is simple. You know they aren't, your just baiting. Most smaller religions are only wanting the same respect, rights, and privileges in a country as the bigger religions get. The easiest and least violent solution is to limit the influence and power of ALL religions.     See this is what I don't get. I really don't care if you DON'T believe....it has no bearing on me and my beliefs but the intolerance of atheist to any forms of religion is just FUCKED UP.     Which is why he's a simpleton as an historian. There's a lot more than just numbers to history -- tons of context and nuances to take into account that requires years of study. He conveniently neglects to show the timelines and numbers reflecting the battles Christians waged on each other during the constant war that was medieval Europe. If he did, the conclusion would be obvious: armies in those times were simply motivated by loot and power. It's a human thing -- not a Christian/Islamic thing. If you want an interesting highly qualified historical perspective on Islam and its origins, I strongly recommend this documentary -- it's fascinating and a real eye-opener. Nor did he mention Islam on Islam battles. Only battles between Christianity and Islam, which is the focus of a Jihad or Crusade. That was an amazing documentary.

    I've watched a Bill Warner lecture before. As an engineer he may be pretty smart, but as one who recounts the historical record he is an idiot with a very blinkered view. Christians were just as savage back in the day as the invaders from the east, and he doesn't take into account the fact that medieval Europe was in a constant state of war within, too preoccupied with itself to bother anyone on the outside. I was looking more at the number of battles and timelines, not his interpretations and attempts to reason the Christian ones. On those points alone, even the Medieval Jihad was far longer and more spread out than the Crusades.
