    No one says all laws have to be supported, but they do need to be followed or be prepared to face the consequences if choose to break it. Don't like a law? Work to change it.     Trying to understand what anyone who thinks the police "are out to get them" are trying to accomplish by resisting arrest if they haven't committed a serious/violent offense. If one believes the police will beat them or kill them, why would you give them even the slightest of reason? Best case scenario if you manage to overtake and subdue the officer, you're now wanted for assault on a LEO and escape. If you fail then they subdue, beat and or kill you.     Except in the scenario with the criminal, shooting first is a much better option than shooting a cop first. With a cop, they could be bad/dirty. With a criminal, you already know they are. Agree to complying with a criminal's demands, if victim is unarmed. If armed, that's an entirely different situation.     That's true, and is also true of people dealing with criminals. We can similarly divide criminals into three types: Those who won't harm you in any case (they'll just run if things go awry) Those who won't try to kill you unless you threaten them Those who will kill you anyway (not very common) So you can have two potential outcomes: Fully compliant homeowner: Only killed by one small group. Resistant homeowner: Killed by two of the groups. Except for the fact that they're criminals so have no initial expectation of professionalism and integrity.     Ok. Let's just hypothetically suppose that most cops want to kill all civilians they interact with, just give them a reason. There's also a smaller group that will kill without reason. Add in a third group that only kills in self defense. Fully compliant civilian: Only killed by one small group. Resistant civilian: Killed by all groups except self defense. Combatant civilian: Killed by all groups. So, unless the civilian is armed and shoots first they stand no greater chance of survival than the fully compliant civilian. Except now they're a fugitive cop killer. Know your rights, but also remember that the most important two are the right to remain silent and to an attorney.     Most skydives happen while not under the influence of drugs/alcohol. Not sure the same thing can be said for police interactions.

    I remember a few years back at a Fitz boogie, Mike was trying extremely hard to get me to come to the Muff Brothers Boogie that year. Unfortunately, I wasn't going to be able to make it, but that didn't slow Mike down one bit. As the evening went on, he tried harder and harder to "persuade" me with stories of the parties and after hours antics, all while my fiancée was standing right next to me. After one of his more detailed, graphic, and quasi-unbelievable arguments, seeing the look on her face, he looked right at her, smiled, and said, "It's all in good fun. " Thinking back now, as he'd been introduced to her earlier that day, not sure if he wasn't just messing with us. But, then again, with Mike it could be hard to tell.     There is a fix. There just isn't an easy or palatable fix. There's a fix to get illegal guns away from criminals? Spaying and Neutering???? And declawing....I'm trying to come up with a joke about "hand"guns and not having hands, but I'm coming up empty handed. Of those "gun free zones" * How many had armed security? * How many was there some sort of search conducted prior to entry to check for guns?     Um, that's exactly what everyone here is arguing. If the targets are "harder" then they will be less likely to be attacked. Of course, the terrorists will just attack somewhere else, so the only real logical conclusion isthat we need to become a fully militarized police state to prevent a nutjob from killing people every couple years. Sounds like a great America. All we need to do is eliminate "gun free zones" except for secured areas with armed guards. This way those that choose to carry, can. If you don't personally want or feel you need a gun (such as myself) don't carry one. Just the fact that you can, and others will, will make all potential targets "harder" without militarizing the police.
