The better question is is the reason were they not injured or killed just because they were so well armed? Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

I liken this to when there is an event or organized protest that police worry will turn violent so police are out in large numbers in full combat riot gear. Sometimes people become so enraged over the police presence, they start rioting and looting, not realizing they're just proving the police were right. The best reaction is to remain peaceful and make them look like idiots. So it's up to the Muslims in that area. They can attempt to injure or kill the protestors proving them right, or they can remain peaceful and make them look like idiots. For someone who claims to respect a person's religious dogma if it is sincerely held believe derived from God, you sure find it easy to insult the same dogma. Hypocrite much? But, but but, hers is derived from Allah... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

Add non procreation sex, masturbation or nocturnal emissions, and menstruation to the possible loss of the next "chosen one." Dwarfs that number... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

If you really want to point fingers to the cause, you have to go back to when the government started awarding special rights, privileges, and advantages to marriage. The government basically had two options with both interracial and orientation marriages: expand the rights to include the "new" group, or limit the rights of the traditional group going forward. My Sick and Twisted thread is coming back online... in GroupMe

Billy did it right, he waited until they acted instead of forcing their hand. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3423411#3423411 Best of luck to ya. -

Number 2 does not work both ways as it only allows limited discrimination for religious beliefs. What religious belief is the gay couple using for their denial? The problem here is religion, an arbitrary choice one can make and change at will, should not be considered a protected class. there's 2 things at play here Wendy. Number one, this is discrimination of someone for some reason. Whether or not others agree with it, the business person or service provider should be free in this country to make that choice. Unless that business is subsidized by government funds, he or she should be able to do whatever they think is right. Now for me, while I don't agree with it, I do fully believe that people who act like that will get figured it out by the market. Anyway I can look at it, I cannot condone government forcing someone to do something they don't agree with no matter how despicable their view +1 If not receiving government funds or business, let people expose themselves for the bigots and racists they are and let the market sort it out.

I am with you Grue but I think it is a flawed argument to say we need to start eliminating the things we disagree on as people. That's not feasible. I am not a fan of anyone who "pushes" religion or the belief in nothing on anyone either. I really try to not do that. I prefer to let my actions speak but I am human and that does not always work out that well. Maybe it's better said as eliminating the reasons we disagree to actual disagreements vs. disagreements because an unprovable deity or deities and/or some ancient text tells them to. Sure people will always find a reason to argue and disagree but the more intelligent and relevant those reasons are...

At what point would you be ok with stepping in and finishing this?
Bolas replied to Anvilbrother's topic in Speakers Corner
The only way the U.S. could truly end Middle East conflicts would be to destroy what those are fighting over: All holy/sacred places and relics from all the religions. Hence the need for us to GTFO: no aid, assistance, supplies, training, etc to any of the Middle East until if/when they stabilize themselves. At the same time, no criticism by the U.S. Government of methods employed or governments deployed. We have that now somewhat: polls, surveys and focus groups. And it sucks. Polls and surveys with biased questions, possibly written by lobbyists getting the responses of people either too dumb to not take them or have too much free time to begin with. Focus groups designed to craft responses that are agreeable to most, meaning generally crap. These at the same time give the elected official the cop out response to why they did or didn't do something. Sadly, there are probably some really good elected officials out there that have good ideas that would actually make a difference that get overridden by this BS. Bakery faces complaint for refusing to write anti-gay message on cake
Bolas replied to BillyVance's topic in Speakers Corner
Ok, so the business can't say "we don't sell to (insert group)", but they can have rules/decor that make it clear the group isn't welcome or wanted. A bar can cater to white supremacists with their selection of music and decor, but if a nonwhite person comes in for a drink and is of age, they have to serve them. Discrimination still, just passive discrimination. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. -

Unless those choices specifically target certain groups. A rule applied to everyone that all wedding cakes only come with a white hetero couple on them? Even if applied to all, by nature is excluding racial and orientation groups. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. -
Bakery faces complaint for refusing to write anti-gay message on cake
Bolas replied to BillyVance's topic in Speakers Corner
Correct. And this is where the key problem comes in. If, say, a government let's a baker decide whether he/she wants to make a Rainbow gay wedding cake or a swastika wedding cake, I have no problem. If a government requires a person to make a "Rainbow" wedding cake for a gay marriage, then a person should be required to make a swastika cake. There's a problem there, but it's evenhanded. If a government requires a person to make a rainbow cake but not a swastika cake then that's where I would have a serious problem because government is then judging content. Said much better than I did... -

"No custom shaped cakes." - No problem "Custom shaped cakes but no rainbow and/or swastika cakes" - Problem? No, if someone doesn't want to make swastika shaped cakes, it's not a problem. Nor is it a problem if they don't want to put rainbows on the cakes. As long as the policy is applied to everyone. The problem comes up when they will make rainbow cakes for one group (say, 8 year old girls) but not for others (say, gay weddings). So if they want to make swastika cakes for Buddhists, Hindus or Jainists, then they probably would have to make them for the skinheads too. Custom cakes is custom cakes, if you make them you have to make any type for anyone per the line of thought in this ruling. Choosing some shapes but not others would be discriminatory unless the reason was deemed non personal, such as technical.
