Let's talk about profiling...last night Rox stops at a grocery to get some last minute Thanksgiving stuff and a couple of bottles of liquor. Not a terrible neighborhood but not the best either. The way that liquor works in Ohio is it has to be purchased separately and bagged up. So when you leave the store you have liquor in brown paper bag your other stuff in their own bags (plastic). As she leave 4 black youths appear from the nearest corner of the store and start following her to her car. She could tell they were interested in what she had in her cart. They were getting pretty close when all of a sudden the cop that was at the door yelled something to the effect of "you guys planning on helping that lady with her groceries?" They took off running. Except absolutely none of that applies in this case. The guy was a thug. All those that are looting and rioting are thugs and criminals. It's extremely likely initially the riots and looting were started by those not in the community but once started, locals joined in. Sadly, all that has happened in Ferguson has just reenforced the reasoning for the police's initial actions and response. If they really wanted change, they would have not only not joined in, but tried to stop those that did and failing that, recorded those that did so they could be prosecuted. Make the police and the government troops look like fools for overreacting by NOT rioting, NOT looting. "We're mad as hell, so we're going to destroy our own community?" Do we have people with no respect for the law? Yes. Do we have law-enforcement officers that violate citizens rights? Yes. Verbally arguing with an officer should be the most one does, and even that should be limited. If you feel your rights are being violated or the officer is being unreasonable, just take the summons or arrest peacefully and address that in court to have any evidence gathered illegally dismissed. Resisting, even passively, will just escalate them to the next level to make one comply. Through court and police complaints we can weed out the bad cops.
