:12:0 No beer owed this time.. Went to Skydive Elsinore for some freeflying and some party time for Mel's bday! Skydive Melsinore was awesome as usual! -
Terry Schumacher makes these, and he sells them himself, I don't think this stuff is available through gear stores.

My swoops are about as long as the requirements for a newbie landing area though ha ha

All.. I wanted to bump this one since I am well on my way with the video already. Anyone that shot some cool footage, send me a pm if you want it in the boogie video and you didn't give it to me already.. there is still some more footage on its way to me right now, so there is still time!! I have about 15 minutes of video ready, and there is about another 25minutes of video to be editted... I'll try to put together a little 2 / 3 minute teaser for all you people that haven't made up your minds if you want the video or not..

I think the reason they are doing HDD cams is cause that's the way to go until they make solid state media (like compact flash) cheap enough to put in these cameras. There is something to be said for putting it straight to disk, it avoids having to sit there again and converting it all into the computer. DSE might have some ideas on this as well, but I've seen external HDD drives made for some of the professional cameras so they could record straight to hard disk.. Just for our application it's not useful since harddrives don't like altitude..

I am.. which is the reason I am not jumping it like that. the still up top is probably only going to happen if I fly stills only with a flash on there or something like that. what I wanted to show with the pictures is the flexibility of changing everything around... I have jumped it with the still on the other side, but then the door for the CF card sticks out over the side of the helmet, which I don't like either.. I try to keep the sides of my helmet completely clear.. Iwan

Spence.. can you post a pic of your backyard?

Here is my new setup.. it's not completely finished, there are a couple more parts coming in sometime soon.. but this is the first pass. Basically the only change that's going to be made is that the HC-1 is going into a roll cage, instead of just sitting out there in the open. The whole top is a design that Terry Schumacher makes and it works very very nice..

All I have to say about that is that DSE has an amazing amount of knowledge about shooting video, not necessarily shooting skydiving video, but shooting video.... He is more educated than most of us, and he was educated before he ever strapped a camera to his helmet.. I wish there were more skydiving videographers that started off that way.. had a clue how to operate a camera and how to shoot good video before actually selling themselves as videographers.. To DSE.. thanks for all your input on here in the forums, and keep the good stuff coming!

I agree, arch more and get lower, you're flying pretty flat. Iwan

Contact Terry Schumacher, I know he makes rollcages too.. I think he built the ones for Greg Gasson, and he uses PC-120s

4-way video: Moving away from wide angle
vdschoor replied to genoyamamoto's topic in Photography and Video
Geno.. as you know this weekend I started flying without a wide angle.. I love how it looks WAY better, but you really have to throw yourself away from the formation on exit to get at least the grips in frame. I'd say fly wide angle (.5 or .6) and no wide angle side by side for training jumps for a while and see how it works out for you.. Just make sure you put a UV filter on your video camera to protect the lens.. your camera lens will take a pretty serious beating, and they are a bit more than 60 dollar wide angles UV filters run for 10 bucks or less on B&H Iwan -
Low Profile Camera Helmet Recommendation
vdschoor replied to TallGuy's topic in Photography and Video
Tallguy, I know you're a tall man.. since I sit on the airplane with you a lot.. I don't think you're going to get away with a front mount still and side mounted video, at least I wouldnt want to see you flying that way.. it will put a huge amount of stress on your neck. Either go by everything on top (and get a FTP) or do video side mount, stills up top.. you'll find that you will adjust how you move around in the plane just fine to ensure you're not bumping your camera all the time. I think I am pretty happy I am on the wagon this month.. somehow it sounds like your Friday isnt half as fun as mine..

Glass makes or breaks your picture.. like in the "olden days" a good lens on a crappy body will still get you a good picture.. a cheap crappy lens on a professional body will never get you the high quality shot.. just cause the lens is what creates the picture quality..
