  1. I'd like to pass on a big thank you to the dzo and managers of Bay Area Skydiving, and everyone else that helped organize the event for making the boogie happen again this year. the only "bad" thing about the event was the weather on Friday which made it impossible to do the 40 way formations that were planned, but other than that we had a great event! Thanks to everyone that attended for keeping the event safe. The only "incidents" that happened were the two cutaways which were both landed safely. See you all next year! Iwan
  2. I don't have a picture of how I fly on my computer here, but this is basically it: When you lay flat on the floor, put your hands on the ground at about shoulder height, and push your upper body off the floor, keep your hips on the ground. That's pretty much my body position, the arms down like that will inflate the wings (on my suit at least) and put my upper body up high. This also makes me backslide like crazy.. so to compensate for that, you push your legs out. At slower fallrates, I am less steep with my upper body, but it's still the same body position. give it a shot.. of course, this is how I can fly with my suit, since you have another type of suit, the body position might need some tweaking, but just to give you an idea..
  3. just ship it UPS or Fedex or something, it should be fine, you can track it the whole way.

    nor cal people

fuck you man.. actually.. I should let you pass out drunk on my couch, so I can go crazy with a marker on you
  5. NorCal is pretty bad too.. It looks like its going to rain that's how grey the skies are.. but it's all smoke I am near Stockton
  6. Its an FTP with a modified entry system. McGowan's has a front entry where the chin closes up instead of the "bone" in the back.
  7. I think the angle of the shot is just fine.. its all about what you are looking for in your photo. As far as getting steeper above it, if that's what you want just do it. It's a bit weird at first, but just slowly let yourself sink down on it to get closer and steeper.. You'll feel the air getting dirty (the burble coming off the formation) and stay right there.. that will probably be as steep and close as you can get. For me with photos.. there is no "incorrect" angle really, it's the story you want to tell, just like with video. I just look at what the picture is for: do you just want to show a nice photo: no wrong angle possible, you are being creative use for a record: make sure all the grips are in there (so either steep above, or steep below with all the grips visible) It's an endless list really.. I like the shot, It shows the formation, over the dropzone where it happened.. so there is a story there... Iwan

  9. If you're already all setup with Nikon equipment, don't switch over unless you're willing to fork out a whole lot of money.
  10. I always wear my camera suit with wings and booties for anything I film on my belly. For freeflying I wear my ff suit, and for "other" stuff.. I just wear what I need.. Basically.. use the right tools for the job that needs to be done..
  11. Which is exactly why that pilot chute didnt launch as it should.. I was trained on spring loaded pilot chute equipment, and I was told, look over your shoulder after you pull.. it changes the burble just enough for it to launch..
  12. All, The photos I took at Lost Prairie are online at: www.iwanvanderschoor.com If you see yourself in them and want a copy let me know. If it's a freefall shot, please purchase it off my website. Thanks for another good one everyone, see you next year!!

  14. JP, I miss you man.. I sure hope you're partying it up with Shannon today..
  15. DSE, thanks for the advice! What is considered a "real cleaning" ? Sending it in or something, or cleaning it with alcohol? Any advice is very welcome, I've never done any other maintenance than running a cleaning tape through my cameras. Thanks, Iwan
  16. All, I am running into issues with my HC-1, it has about 400 jumps on it now and it is skipping sometimes in the middle of the skydive. I'd like to know if any of you have experienced this with any of the cameras? It is not mounted in a D-box (for now at least) and I am wondering what the issue could be. Someone mentioned to me that it is better to use the HD tapes with the HDV cameras.. any comments on this?
  17. hmmm, Skybitch, I accept! I will be sober noon thursday till noon friday! I don't think I miss any of the good stuff that way! Count me in - and what do we win if we complete task? A warm beer
  18. I'd be all over it, but at this point tickets are 400+ dollars from SFO to PHX Good luck with the jumps!
  19. Who is cruising past Spokane on Thursday August 2nd around noon? One of my friends needs a ride, send me a pm if you can hook a fellow skydiver up!
  20. sorry to hear you got slammed man, that sucks. Regarding the 1.5 second shut off.. here's what probably happened: the HD cameras record by key frame, the slammer probably prevented your camera from recording a key frame, therefore the footage is missing of that 1.5 seconds. I've been hit on exit, and the same thing happened, lost about a second of the footage because of it. It wasn't even a hard hit, but I guess just hard enough to make it skip on the tape or something along those lines.. Take care of that neck Iwan
  21. PARTY! Today around this time I hope to be making about my fifth jump
