When I did the canopy course I was told that you need to return to full flight for 5 seconds to return to normal speed. If the intent of a swoop is to accelerate the landing then would you not want less than 5-10 seconds? -Michael Because you want the canopy to recover to level flight by itself, without input. If that time is less than 5 seconds (and I have to say that is probably long, I'd have to count on my next landing) your canopy is still diving, and it will require input to get it to level flight. Basically my swoop is like this: Fly to my initiation point (around 625ft) and start my 270 degree turn. Complete the turn and let the canopy recover by itself (I actually use a LITTLE bit of rears to help it recover) The last part of my "turn" is with both hands on the rear risers, diving in a straight line letting the canopy recover by itself as much as possible.. like I said, I don't think this is for 5 seconds, but it is for a couple of seconds at least. I'll let people that take a more technical and analytical approach to swooping fill that part in..

Thats a pretty good indicator.. I think the 200 video jumps only is a lot, but you do want to be solid with your video skills like DSE mentioned. Then on top of that.. learn about photography, learn about the camera, learn to take good photos on the ground before putting it on your helmet.. Just because you land with 250 shots doesnt make you a good photographer.. just means you have a fast camera. Lighting is way more critical with photography than it is with video, learn about this. Have fun learning, cause it sure has been fun for me.. I have about 2000 camera jumps under my belt now and I am still learning, and still having a blast learning every single time..

The big difference between you and a lot of people that got an ARM is that ... you can afford your house when the interest goes (back) up.. A lot of people signed up for these loans where the ONLY way they could afford the house was if the interest stayed at this low rate.. thats where people and banks screwed up.

He forgot to mention you pull no lower than 3000ft Iwan

Have a good sit down talk with the people you are filming, and tell them they should really focus on flying closer to the center of the frame.. Sorry.. I had to do it :P Like the other guys said, put a dot or "paper asshole" on your goggles, or a ringsight on your helmet.. Have fun learning and be safe!

Videographers: What's your wing loading?
vdschoor replied to fr33flyr's topic in Photography and Video
Velo 103 loaded at 2.1:1 - 2.3:1 The reasons a lot of videographers choose the Spectre over a high performance wing is more that the openings are consistent and predictable, unlike a highly loaded xbraced canopy.. -
Looking at the history of this thread, and your feedback.. I'd recommend a Stiletto over the Katana for what you want. The Stiletto will spin circles around a Katana on toggles..

Those pics were taken in 2003 or so... they do have a King Air now. Iwan

It is possible to get a shot with the bay in the background in Byron, but it will be very tricky.. the bay is a long way away.. If you decide to come out to Byron, look me up, I am usually there and there is enough scenery there to put in the background. For the best views Monterey hands down... check out my photogallery from there: http://www.shutterfly.com/progal/album.jsp?aid=768a5498cecd946a4d38 But Monterey is just what the others already said.. The fog makes it challenging

Bill Dause is under the chopping block!!

Though I wasn't there that day, I was told he had done a H&P prior to that, if not that same day, and was told repeatedly about how to exit correctly. Maybe the OP can clarify? That's what I was wondering too.. We don't cut on the King Air in Byron either for hop and pops, which is the reason people can NOT do their first hop and pop out of it. We tell people, just roll out and then get stable. the other thing we do is we don't open the door all the way so you already have to get small and stay low to get out. -
I dont have the answer for you and I don't think the manufacturers even have these numbers.. I know someone that flew his KA97 at 2.75 because thats where he liked that parachute the best.. it's not recommended, but it all goes back to personal preference.

The Century .3 is an amazing lens one of my friends jumps that one on a regular basis. It's huge though, and the distortion is quite visible (I don't like that look) but the optics are very good.

I agree.. if you take Hwy 1, you'll have a beautiful (but very long) drive. If they want to get to LA fast, fly, Hwy 5 is boring.

The remote sticks out on the Canon too. Unless on the Nikon it sticks out way more, I wouldn't consider that a big enough reason not to stick with Nikon. Iwan
