Lisa, I did yell at someone last weekend as well, for the very same reason (they would have taken me out) and I told them that I will make sure NOT to get video of them landing anymore. Here's the thing, just because there is a camera there, it doesnt mean YOU need to do something to "help out" the photographer / videographer by setting up a certain swoop. Let the photographer take care of the shot, you just land your parachute. I have worked with people on certain shots, asked them to do certain moves to get a shot, or I have told people this is what I am doing so they could be ready for it. If you are IN the landing area it's a different story, but like Lisa said (I know the landing area in Davis) she was on the edge, and that person should not have "aimed" for the camera.. Iwan

Old Guys Rule Boogie- April 26th & 27th
vdschoor replied to jdobleman's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Judging by your picture, you don't qualify as an old guy.. You are an observant one, professor. But I do love Mad John, and he only turns 60 once. So I gotta be there. Should we shoot for 60 jumps that day, or will that be pushing it? -

Recommendations for a beginner digital still setup
vdschoor replied to Ronaldo's topic in Photography and Video
Yeah that system has been in use by many videographers for YEARS! It's called a VIDEOcamera or a FILMcamera. they shoot at 30fps!! honestly, what you should do is focus on improving your flying and VIDEO skills, do the framing and keeping your friends in frame using a video camera and then start working with the photos. -
hey man, will you be filming or competing? A little of both maybe.. I don't know, I was thinking of competing..

I know of a jump pilot that lands with the door closed all the time in the winter with an Otter.. so its really not that extreme..

yup.. my dad had been curious to give it a try since the day I started and I finally gave him a tandem skydive a couple of years ago. He loved it, and might do it again "in a couple of years" My mom will never do it, and I have no desire to convince her otherwise.. you either want to do it, or you don't there's no need to "force" people into it, I think. I'm bummed, cause I think she'd love it, but if its not your thing, so be it..

I think they allow camping on the dz so that would definately be your cheapest option. As far as getting there, I would recommend renting a car, but I'm sure there's a way to get out there by bus or something, although I am not familiar with it.

Full face Camera helmet - Legend or fact
vdschoor replied to crashtested's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've seen http://skysystemsusa.com/helmets/vapor_wes_pro.html this one jumped with a visor on it -
The reason he is such an attention whore is because he needs the money. The money comes from people with money, and none of us are going to help him get 2 million bucks together for his landing ramp. Hell, it's almost impossible to sell a handful of dvds for like 15 bucks, cause people don't want to pay for stuff. So he's doing the right thing, getting on TV, getting publicity, and someone will jump in and give him money one of these days so he can land a wingsuit without a parachute... It's simple economics.. he needs money, so he goes out of his way to make himself known out there..

Which video editing program to buy for mac?
vdschoor replied to Supergeil's topic in Photography and Video
Final Cut Express is the ticket for nice editting, iMovie is great for the "quick and dirty" editting, although you can do some pretty nice stuff in there too.. -

I can't believe this, I've only met Lee a couple of times but he is an amazing guy, and funny as hell. Prayers are going out to his family and friends, and I think I am going to have some beers and piccalilli tonight.. I will never forget watching him eat that stuff at the Dublin boogie a couple of years ago..

Since it's under your jumpsuit, go for the 2x2 I have that one and it's off the hook, and think of this.. a slight loss in recycle speed might just mean you miss your shot.. You will not be disappointed

"In-Between" canopy size?????
vdschoor replied to nicolesheridan's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I think your statement about how you liked the Cobalt way better says it all: get the cobalt. There can be a big difference between different canopies of the same / similar size. For me the Sabre2 was the absolute ticket (I jumped 170s, 150s, 135 and 120). At my wingloading I had to surf them out sometimes and sometimes I was not able to shut it down completely, what I found is that I was not finishing my flare when my feet touched the ground. As for "in between sizes" I don't know if there is such a thing. If you are ready for the next step down, you will know when you're jumping the right canopy. When I was looking for my next canopy (my current one) I jumped a Velo 120, 111, 103, and 96. I settled on the 103 cause that one "felt right" for me. Choose the canopy that feels best to you and that you can safely land wherever you want, in all different directions. As you said you're very current, so that shouldn't be too big of deal. Just make sure you fly the sizes in between when you're downsizing. Be safe! -
