Manager Guy: Let's call the cops and see if they can figure it out. Cop: Well, they have left me this nice clue. I'm going to dig around on the internet and see what it means. Cop: Hey, look at this. It turns out that's a logo from these weirdo's called "BASE Jumpers" who like to parachute off buildings. I'd say you've got a BASE jumper infestation. Better call an exterminator. If you set up video cameras we can get some evidence to go after them next time you see them. And they're already giving us a trail to follow. They're no better than gang members using graffiti to mark their turf. Let's get 'em! Manager Guy: Wow, I never heard of this "BASE" stuff before. We'll definitely tighten things up around here and see if we can nail those guys. John: Sir, I have been moitoring the new CCTV on the roof and you will never guess what I saw! Manager Guy: What? John: I saw you bonking that pretty young thing from Admin! Manager guy: Shit!!!! Who'se stupid idea was the CCTV anyway???????

Brokeback Mountain gets the recognition it deserves.
Erroll replied to ccowden's topic in Speakers Corner
Being South African I'm naturally delighted that "Tsotsi" won the Best Foreign Language Oscar. I'm curious though. Does the average American movie-goer actually ever go see any of these 'foreign' movies? -
As a matter of pure curiosity, where exactly did the guy wear the ugly wig?

Would you want to know if you will die and when or not?
Erroll replied to RkyMtnHigh's topic in The Bonfire
Reading some of the threads in Bonfire, there are a great many kittens that need saving, and you wont even have to walk into fires..... -
A very good answer. We don't necessarily NEED Rainbow Boogie, but there's already a proven huge demand (WANT) for a Rainbow Boogie. Mark, you have explained your position very clearly and very eloquently. I don't think you need to continue justifying yourself or the boogie for the sake of one or two biased opinions. Good luck with your venture!

You will be hard pressed to find many threads on SC where the original poster's actual topic gets discussed for more than a few posts. This post of mine is a case in point. Ps. Somewhere on these forums you will find a list of the typical participants in an Internet discussion - it is very funny but also quite accurate.

To paraphrase a local TV advertisement : "In South Africa snow she is not very beeeg", but in spite of our lack of snowy and icey sports I too am really enjoying the curling at the Games. It is a game of immense skill, it takes a lot of concentration and team work, it involves a lot of strategy (and shouting) and it is never dull. I do suspect though that the Canadian female skip may have contributed to my new-found interest in the sport.

Deliberately inducing instability in an AFF student
Erroll replied to Andy9o8's topic in Instructors
You are not understanding my description of events. I did my AFF course after getting stuck at the 10 second delay on the S/L progression. I had already done about 25 jumps by the time I started AFF. I was clearly not very talented. I started my AFF (Levels one & two) at Carletonville and finished it at the Mmabatho boogie in December of '91. We jumped from Casas owned by the (then) Bophutatswana Air Force and we regularly got between 12 and 14 grand. No, I was not very stable in the headdown or any of the other moves I 'copied'. (Incidentally, at that time ('91) I had not even heard of 'freeflying'. To me 'headdown' still means a very steep, very fast, arms-by-the-side-&-legs-straight dive.) The point of my post was not my 'talent' or lack thereof. The point was that Lob, my instructor, was confident enough in my ability to regain stability and maintain awareness to let me try new stuff on the fly (pun intended), and to deviate from the 'plan', rather than waste 4000 feet of freefall time. -
Reminds me of Bobby Sands in the H-block - Halfway through his hunger strike Margaret Thatcher told the prison authorities to give him an hour longer lunch-time for good behaviour - or so the story goes.

Deliberately inducing instability in an AFF student
Erroll replied to Andy9o8's topic in Instructors
Dave has indicated more than once that the few times he has done this, the student was doing his qualification dive During my last AFF level before hop&pop, I had to do what we called the 'full series'. This was a dive exit, a backloop, 360 left, 360 right and another backloop. I was having a good dive and finished my full series by about 9 grand. My instructor gave me a thumbs up, glanced at his alti and then immediately motioned me to 'follow' him. He went into a headdown, something which I had never done before. I followed him, copying everything he did, until my designated wave-off altitude at which point I waved off and dumped. When I landed he was waiting for me, gave me a high five and congratulated me on a great dive. At the debrief I was very flattered when he told me that I was one of the very few students he had ever done this with. He said that having worked with me for several jumps and after that good full series, he was confident that I would cope. That did an enormous amount for my confidence and belief in myself. I fully subscribe to the 'plan the dive, dive the plan' doctrine, but I was very pleased that I didn't end up doing nothing but fall for 4000 feet on that jump! -
Absolutely agree. Also, most DZ.commers can string more than three words together without using a profanity and without referring to 'towelheads' and 'glass parking lots'.

Does your Dropzone have wind holds?
Erroll replied to valcore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When we first got an inflight door for our C182 several years ago, I often prayed for wind holds in the plane - especially on Sunday mornings after a heavy wings party the night before..... -
I wonder if this is the start of the genocide? Hey, PJ?

South Africa gun lobby wants more guns in crime-plagued nation
Erroll replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
You no doubt have several examples of this? Of course he does. Didn't take me long to remember that the Nazis disarmed the Jews, before they slaughtered 6 million of them... - Note John's use of the words "far too many times". Also note my use of the word "several". -
The abbreviation "lb" for a unit of weight is derived from the Latin word libra. I found this about Bbl:

QuoteSo you seem to be saying that once again, the world may see a type of genocide enabled by the disarming of the would-be victims of that genocide. Quote Not even the most ardent consipracy theorist would arrive at that ridiculous conclusion. -
Here is a sampling...... I think I could do a *lot* better (read HOTTER!) than that. Walt Hmmmmm..... You would have used a shark instead of a sheep?
