I agree wholeheartedly. As a 'foreigner' I thoroughly enjoy the well thought-out, eloquent discussions by several of the regular protagonists. I find these interesting, educational and enlightening. However, there are those that will always turn any debate into you-would-have-been-speaking-german-now, my-god-is-better-than-your-god, you-said-i-said, semantic pissing contests. At least one learns to be a discerning reader.

This may belong in the Gear forum, but seeing it is relevant here: There have been several posts/threads on these forums about this subject. One would have expected that by now a more pax-friendly harness would have been developed. Perhaps something along the lines of a Paraglider-seat? Is there anything like this in the pipeline? Is it practical?

Reminds me of that old 'Van der Merwe' joke (told here in English for the benefit of the majority). Koos van der Merwe goes to the Dept of Home Affairs and requests that his name be changed. Seems that he has been teased all his life and he wants to put an end to it. The official assures Koos that there is no problem and all he has to do is fill in a few forms, indicating what he would like his new name to be. A few weeks later an important looking mail arrives for Koos. He rips it open, reads it and exclaims: "At last! No more teasing! From now on my name is Poepol van Der Merwe!".

I heard on a local radio station this morning that a (AOL?) survey (in which over 2 million Americans participated) just voted GWB to be the 6th best American in history. I think Ronald Reagan was 1st and JFK was around 12th!

Fair enough. I think it is reasonable to assume that under most conditions the jumper will know that he/she is about to do a water landing and should therefore disconnect the RSL.

On rounds with little to no flare, this makes sense, but I'm having difficulty with this as far as ram-air canopies are concerned. As your feet get wet haven't you just about reached the full flare point, with your hands in your crotch? In order to execute the breakaway you are going to have to let go of both toggles in order to get to your handle, and if the canopy has any forward speed left, surely it will surge forward, complicating matters? You also run the risk of not releasing the toggles evenly with the resultant rapid turn one way or the other?

I am not an instructor, but as I recall from my own AFF training, altitude awareness practice is an integral part of every AFF jump. I doubt that Dytters are even allowed. In my opinion they would also defeat the whole object of the C o A.

The entire front page of my daily newspaper is taken up by a 'photo of MJ. One would've thought that our own corruption trial featuring our deputy President would've been more news worthy. But then, it has been a few days since the sentencing. Maybe tomorrow..... when he has been fired or forced to resign. -

Oh yeah? Can you do all the things on Bill Von Noballs' checklist? Have you taken a ball control course by Brian Gerball? How about letting someone with 3480 lines, ProBall and BBI rating and 11 years in the alleys show you what they can do with one of your balls. If you can emulate them, ok, then you can test out and upsize. Otherwise, stick with the balls you have until you are ready.
