  1. I was being facetious, trying to illustrate how anyone can come up with any number of theories. Some folk here enjoy playing 'super sleuth', while others seem to feel superior with their detective work. For example, all this stuff about float time is about as important as the float time of the load Cooper dropped in the lavatory. Whether (some of)the money floated for 10 years, ending up on the beach, or whether the baby-delivering stork dropped the money on the beach, neither is of any consequence and will prove absolutely nothing.
  2. 1. Cooper left behind two working chutes and jumped with one usable and one unusable chute. He was experienced enough to know that he could not attach another to his harness. 2. He jumped at night (he didn't have to - could have chosen a daytime flight) He was experienced enough to have done several night jumps before and saw it as no big deal. 3. He jumped with way too much gear (chutes, money bag, briefcase, paper bag) in unsuitable clothing (suit and loafers) He was an experienced military/smoke jumper and had done several jumps with loads of kit/tools/weapons. 4. No DZ had ever heard of him, before or since He wasn't a sport jumper. Too easy.
  3. Slightly off topic, but you guys are discussing the US Supreme Court and its judges:- I see this claim (in various forms) quite regularly in this forum. Now, I am not an American, nor am I a lawyer, but I am also not completely ignorant or stupid. If there were such overwhelming evidence wouldn't one have seen some legal action or intervention of some kind before the Supreme Court?
  4. Erroll, you know that Biltong is Oryx meat, yes? Biltong is a generic (South African) term for raw, dried meat, whether it comes from a cow, an antelope or even an ostrich. Your point?
  5. If he almost killed himself, he could hardly be called wreckless!
  6. Ever since I was a child my 'lucky' number has been 5. A couple of weeks ago I dreamed about the number 5. I just saw all shapes and sizes of the number five. The next day I noticed in the newspaper that there was a horse called '5 Star' running in the fifth race, and while I am not normally a betting man, I put R555 on him. True enough, he came in 5th!
  7. I live in Africa. I know about wildlife, endangered species, conservation, culling, and so on. I am a keen angler. I fish barbless; I practise catch-and-release, and I teach my family to do the same. However, I understand that if an introduced fish species destroys indigenous fish populations, they get taken out. I understand that sometimes a rogue lion that is killing livestock needs to be destroyed. I understand that when a crocodile frequently attacks children playing next to a river, it needs to be moved or culled. But when some moron looking for nothing more than a trophy bragging rights kills an endangered leopard, I get both angry and sad. Spot the irony:-
  8. Have you heard about the Killing fields of Zimbabwe? Some quotes: (emphasis mine) Shooting a whitetail (after a semblence of a chase) is not quite the same as wholesale slaugther in the name of 'Trophy hunting'. Alas, you too won't understand.
  9. Would it be better for you if it were limited to egotistical English "gentlemen"... or the rich South Africans?? Nice try, Jean, but I'm not taking your bait. The article specifically mentioned clients from the US, hence my reference to Americans.
  10. It is not Bob that is doing it. There has been alot of debate about whether it is right or not. Some people see it as cyber warfare - I think it is a brilliant form of "passive resistance". The person who started the telephone war - has advised people to be polite, not to be abusive, not to make prank calls (silent treatment) but purely to ask for the results to be released and the will of the people to be obeyed. In light of this I think it is perfectly legitimate (at first this was not clear). It is also bound to wear people out having their phones ringing non-stop 24 hours a day - so far people from the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand are calling in. My apologies - I understood the 'ethics' question to refer to the delay in making the results known. I am all for 'civil disobedience' in Zim's present situation.
  11. I find it equally distasteful. I live in (South) Africa and the African wildlife should be part of our heritage - not trophies for rich egotistical hunters from America. I recently saw a program on ESPN about a wellknown bow hunter (I forget his name now - maybe Tom Miranda?), hunting in Southern Africa. He was sitting in his tree hide when this absolutely magnificent Gemsbok with 6-7 ft horns came walking up. The hunter positively gushed at the majesty and beauty of the animal, and then promptly shot and killed it. Sad. Very sad.
  12. Mad Bob Mugabe lost the meaning of the word 'ethical' a long time ago. Remember Matabeleland?
  13. Hey, even the prostitutes here are strong!
  14. The way I understand his point is illustrated by the low emergency exit. If you have deployed your main a thousand times and then suddenly have a low emergency exit where you should deploy your reserve, there is a good chance that you are going to throw your main's pilot chute instead.
  15. I also have no dog in this fight, but I think this speech was the right thing at the right time, brave and elegant indeed. warpedskydiver:- Arrogance, like bravery and elegance, is more often than not in the eye of the 'beholder'.

  17. How so? The money could have been dropped from a hot air baloon for all we know. PS. Labelling everyone who disagrees with you as being intellectually dishonest is becoming a tad tedious.
  18. I have not come across any evidence in this or the locked thread that points to the money having arrived there via the Columbia River. There is also no evidence whatsoever to suggest that 'Cooper' was the only person to have handled the money from the time he exited until it was found by the boy. I see no paradox, only lots of gaps and missing facts.
  19. Good, I'll be in Jo'burg on friday Attached is an advertisement from a large daily Jo'burg newspaper today.
  20. Don't knock it 'till you've tried it. It is fun but does require above average skills. It is strange how so many people will just trash it even though they have never bothered to try it . Did I mention that it is fun?
  21. Yup. Ban sex and pretty soon there won't be any youth. Two birds with one stone and all that.
