Bought a new custom container through Square1 this late summer, great customer service and quick communication (when questions to my order came up, i.e.). Good argumented advice on questions by myself. Highly recommended. Must ad that i don't have any other experiences with US Dealers. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. Well, the first units should have been shipping by the end of june, when i was still in the market for an AAD (THEN their website info). Then the "test unit" misfire happened and all these "ridiculous" issues with Airtech (why do they stop/delay production if so ridiculous?). I have been jumping at a major belgian DZ for the last two years, and there were always people interested in it there, nobody has ever seen a unit yet. The only person i know of who received some is JP from square1 (DZ.com name diablopilot). search for Vigil and him in author name to read his review. Good look not to select the "Tandem" setting by the way! Competition is good, but i like leaving testing to others, no pun intended! Hope we see some real competition in the market soon! Just wait until you are a bit deeper into things, by which i mean take your licensing course and then add up a number of jumps under your belt, then you'll know better what you want to get into. Then buy your gear, it will save you money from buying somethong right after your A. And as said, talk to your instructors and RTFAQ up there. Yeah but my point is what makes you think you'll be able to react instinctively right, when you just acted instinctively WRONG? I took your "low turn" as "the too low turn" people get injured or killed with. There is no way out of that one, or else it is a low, but recoverable one. And how to recover from a turn? Well, level out, either by letting up the toggle (wont help in that scenario tho) or pull the other one down to level (might help). And to emergency recover (going to as much level brakes w/o stalling) you cannot really use muscle memory IMO, as it will depend on the direction of the turn you took, so there's no instinctly right thing there. Wrong muscle memory might only make thinkgs worse, if you pull the wrong toggle... Except maybe just hitting the brakes to level. BUT either you are high enough to instantly flare an touch down (flare being the recover/level out), OR you are too low anyway. When you are under a certain altitude, everything is better than a low turn. Above, you might recover going to brakes as far as possible without stalling. Below, you are f*ed Simple as that. Just open your eyes and AVOID IT. This may require thinking for others... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... The reason for people to probably keep it out of a fjc might be that a low turn using a student canopy will still be a somewhat flat turn. So if you overkill people with info, they might think of a turn they took as a "low turn" and try an emergency recovery, probably stalling their main and crashing harder than "normally" recovering from their turn and flaring normally. That is what i could think of as a possible reason not to cover that on a fjc. As to covering emergency recoveries, if you panic one moment leaving you with little or no reaction time, it's unlikely (imho impossible) not to keep up the panic and emergency recover. (See my other post) My two cents. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

The trouble with your point is, that imho it is highly unlikely someone will panic in one instant (which he should be prepared for) and in the very next instant, in a even more dramatic situation, be calm enough to think of some other advice he got, just in the very rare case of that situation? Not humanly possible! The referred two-out is a completely different thing, as it leaves more time unless you are in a downplane rightaway and you usually are a bit higher up, leaving precious time to think an react. So, i think what you are asking for is _purely_ hypothetical imo. Nobody will panic in a situation they should avoid, only to be calm in the blink of an eye and save themselves. When they panic and turn low, their next thought is "Ouch" or "(unconscious)". Better advise them to think for 0.1 seconds before doing _anything_ in terms of low turns. And, if you are told to always be prepared, you don't panic, as you are prepared, right? Just mho. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... When you do that stuff for the first time, have a rigger to help you, saves a _lot_ of time and you learn a lot, too! Was soo happy when i did it, cause i had to unlink the lines, too, and a rigger really has a trick or two up his sleeve to make that super easy while staying on the safe side. Shouldn't that read "It also helps that the larger canopy has longer lines (and thus a longer leverage)"? As what i got from the "common misconceptions" article from John LeBlanc the determining factors on handling are wingloading for speed and line legth & setting for "agility"(leverage/input responsiveness). If you're looking for a good and moderately priced place in Europe, check out Spa in Belgium, the base of the First belgian freefly school. They charge a maximum 37 Euros for 1-on-1 including both slots and instructor fee. As tickets are usually 20+ Euros in Germany and most other places like France and Belgium, this is a cheap alternative and the coaches are really experienced. Sorry, but that pic looks like 3lvl to me, the camera guy in fron (blue suit) obviously isn't docked. There are two pairs of stacked stingers docked on to the sit base. so that's base, 2 stingers above, 2 stingers on top = three levels for me. Or am i wrong? Yeah, and maybe just quit skydiving. Was that a serious suggestion? Don't change your safe habits, change his unsafe ones! Sure is, no doubt on that. I just prefer thinking my rigger does it on the ground neatly stacking it, because if i think of "standing", my inner eye sees packer Joe just throw the whole PJ to the ground to bag it. The thing is that most people downsize for the increased responsiveness. Many don't consider that they will usually increase their WL and thus their speed under canopy, which is why the emphasis is (imho rightwise) being put on the WL aspect. *snip* Well, riggerrob just packed up my reserve lately and told me that was the method he uses, and the rigger who did so before used it too, so i just generalized. This is just what i expect when i pay a rigger for a reserve packjob. Can there be "enough" control for a reserve packjob? And it's the reason why BASE dudes use it too, if i get it right. For all you people who stated that the numbers on the Observer/S6 are too small for easy readability, check out the Suunto X-Lander model. It has a big and _very_ well readable display, even in bright sunlight (LCD over reflective surface). The drawback on it in straight comparison is that it is measuring in 15 ft. increments. I've found the accuracy to be exact enough in both freefall and under canopy, did 2 jumps with a Watch/Baro setup just to compare. The trick on the watch under canopy is not to pay too much attention to the _exact_ number, as it's changing (decreasing) constantly. This is a drawback against a barometric alti which generally only gives an approximate value. You don't need to know you're at "555m, no 545, no 535m", "about 550m" will suffice and your eyes tell you the rest. If you're more of an eye-flyer (imho highly recommended) and judge most of your surroundings visually, then it will do the alti-job for you. On the "legal" side, i've never encountered any trouble at any DZ yet. The question which usually arose was if it was precise enough and sufficiently readable. First answer was a "yes", second answer was to show the damn thing. However, as an answer to Zeemax, i would recommend using a standard alti for as long as you would feel safe enough. COOLNESS IS A FACTOR THAT KILLS, and you're never cool when you screw up. As a skydiver, you're always cool anyways. I was very fancied when i thought of getting one, but then i thought about why. My idea was that, as it is a battery-operated device, it can fail anytime, and thus i stuck to my baro for safety. Then once one the ride up, my baros' needle froze(loose screw on the device), and i decided to still jump for three reasons; first two were my audibles and the third was that i am confident to pull at more or less the right time from eyeballing. It was then that i decided to use the watch, not before. HTH, BS The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Good post! But, as for harness and container systems, could you just post a link to the gear section? Used to jump a Paratec NExT back in Germany, much like the Infinity, but a lot more common over there (local manufacturer, great service). All TSO'd to TSO 23 D(?). I can highly recommend this rig as a first h/c system. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... afaik, its called "Pro-Stack". The final result is pretty much a propack canopy layout. Actually, it just ends up having the canopy folded and the lines lying centered in the same way, no matter if you use Pro-Pack or Pro-Stack. They are both PRO=Proper(?) Ramair Orientation. From what i heard, its common practice for reserve packs, mostly because you seem to have better control of the line laying (as you don't "drop" the cocoon with the lines in the center, increasing risk lines slipping to the sides/towards the nose-> danger of lineover). Apart from that, you seem to get the air out of the canopy more easily, allowing for a tighter PJ. I've also seen a member of the GK pack using this method, and it was phuck*n fast. But you could see he had tons of routine on it. I'm not a rigger, so if i do have any misconceptions here, PLEASE CORRECT! I'm pretty eager on learning in that respect. Stowing Slider-Before or after releasing brakes?
