I just listened to a seminar of sorts about canopy selection. The main jist of what he (scott miller) had to say was that unless the manufacturer has a minimum listed, then there really isn't. One of the things that he had stressed on was that often light people end up on canopys that are much smaller than what they should because there is alot more to selection than wingloading. I know a couple of people where were jumping before thier casts where completely off, but this was the last week or so of having them on, and they both upsized a lot, and have 1000+ jumps. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I had the same problem when I was jumping the student gear at my DZ. When I switched to the transition sport gear (Vector 3M) it all went away. In fact, the only time since student gear that I ended up with sore legs was jump 19, it was a slammer and a half, but other than that the non-student rigs are quite a bit better for comfort. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. If there is one thing that I can make as a sugestion to you, as somone else who is new to the sport (im newbie) its as follows: Listen to all the things that everyone has to say and then talk to your instructers, and the people at the DZ that are experienced (My fav. person to talk to is a AFFi that has been jumping for 20+ years) The people that have been around awhile have seen what happens if you get ahead of yourself and try to jump into something to fast (no pun intended.) Like everyone else said there is more to look at than wingloading and if you can land softly / flare decent. I'm glad that you have decided to follow the advice that people were making.
